  1. Andy, I see your STILL the undisputed weather forecasting champion of Wales. A great asset to our regional forum. It would be quite cold without you.... From what I have seen I agree that we are much more likely to see some decent snowfall toward the end of next week--- its not staying directly easterly for too long before turning more north easterly and northerly.....
  2. Long long time lurker - only crawl out from the woodwork during exceptional times ... Can someone please explain why following the SSW the wind reversal effects only seems to be affecting down to a certain latitude .... Why wouldn’t say North Africa be set for raging Easterlies ?
  3. I'm sorry , I jinxed it by mentioning the met office warning . Green means - Go Yellow means - won't happen Amber means - will happen Red means - someone in the met office who had no outside world experience couldn't resist pressing the big red button . Sorry once again
  4. Suprised to see snowfall mentioned in Swansea . Maybe because im not there so it is bound to stop before I get back. I'm not due back for a few hours yet so that's good news for swansea then. Today whilst travelling Chepstow to aberdare ... Temperatures ranged from 5 degrees to 2 ish in aberdare now . Light drizzle here though . Met office yellow warning just out so that means it's unlikely to happen .
  5. Well I thought 0 degrees Celsius was the new 0 degrees kelvin - in that it could go no lower ( the winter being of modern variety and all that ) But this cold spell although shambolic for any snow ( imby anyway ) may actually freeze some water ! Frozen back garden pond water - surely that merits a met office Amber warning or red alert for pond skaters ?
  6. Just one more rant before I try to resist ranting :- "Windchill factor " Room 101 for this ? I feel embarrassed that tourists or foreigners watching our weather must be chuckling to themselves when they see this . The other day it showed " feels like 3 degrees " -- think it was South west ,but come on ! That is embarrassing . Can't get below 7 or 8 degrees in a screaming northerly so the windchill factor is thrown in to try and make it seem extra cold and we should all be worried ! Lol what a joke . It is not below freezing , it's no where near freezing, nothing has frozen , so don't try to make out it's extra cold when it just is not . Bog standard cool winds nothing else . Freezing means 0 degrees Celsius or below . Deep snow is 6 -8 inches plus. Snow that doesn't stick is pretty but useless . I have felt colder working outside in raging 10 degree wet South westerlies than this.
  7. Met office green warning for wales below 500 m ASL The recent average weather has produced a higher than usual slug anomaly . Your garden is at risk . This is highly likely to happen but has no impact whatsoever other than to gardens. Please see our weather matrix which will demonstrate our thinking behind this . Glorious sunshine now , curtains open , nice mild day , putting the washing out to dry shortly. I'm sure that was a rabbit leaping in yonder field just then , new life birdsong too, is that the ice cream van echoing down the valley ?
  8. February 1st hmmmm 13th February London Greenwich observatory recorded 19.7 degrees as maximum Feb temp. This winter is worse than last winter because of the marginality and silly " warnings ". Unless the met office give an amber warning it's not worth it. My rule is now to take their warnings - knock it down by one level then that's what you may get. Also , what's the point of the green squares in the met office matrix ? Are they ever ticked ? According to the matrix - You could have a green warning that has a moderate chance of occurring giving a moderate impact lol ... What the Dickens is a moderate green warning ? Has anyone ever seen a green met office warning ? A health warning , that your grass would be visible in winter therefor upsetting coldies on various weather sites ? Hopefully we can get a nice warm 15-16 degrees soon and put this dire spell to bed . Nice warm southerly breeze , bike out around the gower , run on the seafront , luncheon in verdis yes please
  9. Awoke and dashed to open the curtains full of expectation. All green all around. It's above freezing also . Met office hand out warnings like the amount of rain you get in a modern cold spell. *Chief forecaster* adds his/ her comments to give gravitas to the warning . What would happen were a real blizzard to occur here ? The met office warning matrix would not suffice given the sliding scale they work on. yellow warning my bottom - green grass outside = green warning / non warning A warning isn't needed really for one bashed up potential snow flake. Dumbed down
  10. Heard tapping on the window , looked out at lamppost to see what looked like a mixture of snow and hail but on closer inspection was mainly hail . This modern cold spell continues to deliver.
  11. What would you accept now ? Waking up to a minimal 1-2cm covering that slowly thaws and is gone in 2 days ( and that's the best you get this winter ) Or Gamble your 1-2cm of guaranteed snow for the prospect of a possibly major 10-20 cm event that stays intact for 3-4 days , plus other events ( with February almost upon us time is starting to run out ) I think at this point I would take the 1-2 cm then write off the winter as average and hope for an early spring . It's feels like pulling hens teeth to get reasonable snowfall this winter( imby perspective ). Teased by the snow gods we are. The more we are teased the greater the obsession becomes.
  12. Been lurking for some time mainly reading the mod thread .... Nothing of any real note here all winter. Last winter was much more interesting with the no hope for snow made up for by major storms. This year has been so frustrating , so close but just not quite enough . We have winds in our west wales favoured nnw direction yet it still sodding rains . Wtf has to happen for snow. This better be countered by a real long dry warm summer !
