South East and East Anglia Weather Discussion February 2021 onwards
Matty J replied to Blessed Weather's topic in Regional
I’ll definitely take this forcast for next week! It looks like it’s finally our turn in EA/SE after a few near misses recently, not to be greedy but I want 10cms as an absolute minimum -

I can’t believe how far north is actually got, currently it’s northern extent is north of Derby! Massive fail for the models again, nowhere was it forcast to get that far up. Some only just put it north of the M4 -

Met O radar seems to be a complete waste of time today for some reason. I’m under moderate precip now and it’s absolutely bone dry ?? Normally their radar is spot on -

That’s much further north than the 21:55 beeb forcast! I was most disappointed but now if this is correct I’m firmly back in the game ?? -

The show appears to be over now sadly, the snow has turned to rain. We have a covering on all surfaces and I’ve seen the biggest flakes for years so I’m content for now. Lets hope something more significant arrives during the remainder of winter ?? -

I’m in Heybridge Paul about 25 minutes north of you and to my suprise we still have all snow here. Infact it’s the heaviest it’s been since it started now, i was expecting rain by this point! Nothing to write home about but it’s nice to see, the flakes now are huge compared with what we’ve had so far. Pic taken just now -

Rain turning to sleet in the heavier bursts now here in Heybridge, and I’m right at sea level so maybe that will bode well for higher parts overnight ?? -
Oh joy I’ve just seen the latest BBC forcast and from Monday to Wednesday we’ve got a streamer of rain I swear we are cursed down here, I’m beginning to detest winter year by year

Even more sickening when you consider this time yesterday the ECM was showing us getting a full pasting If this cold spell is just about grey skies and a cold wind then it can do one, I’d rather it be mild if we can’t get snow or even a frost -

Honestly if i had a pound for the amount of times the ECM has lead us up the garden path I’d be a rich man! it churns out ridiculous snowfall accumulation charts and we’ve seemingly gone from being pasted in snow to now seeing practically nothing unless there’s a massive turnaround! Seems the lesser models always get a better handle on these situations than the big boys -

Excellent thanks Steve I did wonder where the Hirlam went! Lets hope it’s on the money and we finally get what we crave ?? -

Do any of our more experienced members have any stats to say which of the UKV/Arpege/Euro4/ ECM etc perform better in these situations? I’d love the ECM to be right but it does seem to over do snow totals massively and often we end with zilch -
Model Output Discussion - Into the new year
Matty J replied to SMU's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
IMO the UKV has it too far south currently. The 6:55pm forcast on the beeb was quite suprising really, snow plastered all over EA and the Southeast. I usually find they are the last to show what we are ramping about in here so they must have a degree of confidence -

This ties in with the 10:55pm forcast on the BBC. Although they did stress a huge degree of uncertainty. For my location a touch more east would be perfect. -

Rather suprisingly we have snow here in Heybridge, Essex! Admittedly it’s very wet after torrential rain all night but we have a covering on roofs/grass/cars etc, there’s even enough on the window ledge to stick my finger into and that hasn’t happened for a few years! Last winter we never even saw a flake here so this is a good start -
I’ve been to Orlando over 40 times in the last 25 years, and the storms are always a massive highlight for me! This picture was from September 5th 2017 when a strong squall line moved through Orlando from the west. Only a phone pic whilst i was enjoying a beer and watching the light show! 2 trips booked this year although not in peak storm time. Over the years I’ve found June to be the best for them ???
