  1. I've been having a look at the Scotland thread and notice this post from Lomond Snowstorm:

NAE suggests Ayrshire in the firing line tomorrow night http://expertcharts....120506_0312.gif and Merseyside into Monday rush hour too - who'da thunk it?

Any other opinions on that chart? I know it looks promising but is it snow for me or just sleet?

Really pleased for you guys in Cumbria. Enjoy!

  2. After a sunny late afternoon the sky has gone dark and it's started bucketing down, with some hail and strong gusts thrown in for good measure.

Guess who has to go outside in 15 minutes having not brought their coat with them. Joy of joys.

At half 4 this afternoon we were walking along the shore in Hale with our coats off in the sun!!! Now we've just got drizzle after the same downpour as you! I love contrary days..... :whistling:

  3. Not a big snow fan anymore, caused my first car crash today.

    Hope you are okay Extreme!

I'm glad for those of you in Cumbria and Yorkshire who've finally got some snow. Guess I'm just being greedy!

We've nearly reached the point I promised Backtrack I'd report in at - 3 inches...............

..............3 inches of flood waters!!!! Sleet, sleet, sleet!!

I'm not going to look at any charts for a few days. I won't be watching the forecasts which at the moment are leaning towards the white stuff for us. And I will NOT get excited the next time the so called 'snow' is 'definitely' on it's way..... :)

    Goodnight all!

  4. No. Take no notice of the GFS snow risk charts, they are very un-reliable.

The easiest thing to do, is to look at the min/max temps, upper temps, pressure, and where the precip is to forecast snow, although this is a basic way, and not the most accurate, in an event like this, it's your best bet.

Thanks. I'm learning a lot this winter!

I'll report back later when we get to 3 inches........ :)

  5. After a pathetic light spell for 30 mins or so, it's finally moving into the moderate category.

    Starting to lay.

    Let's introduce the category snow;

    FACTOR 1 - Light snow

FACTOR 2 - light snow, starting to settle

FACTOR 3 - moderate snow, dusting

FACTOR 4 - moderate blowing snow with large flakes - settling readily

FACTOR 5 - Heavy snow, large flakes, accumlated.

FACTOR 6 - Blizzard like conditions, 5cms or more on the ground.

    PLEASE USE THIS! :)

    FACTOR 3!!!

Has been snowing lightly here in south Liverpool for about an hour and is getting heavier now, showing signs of sticking!

I was expecting sleet and rain so I'm made up! Is it really going to carry on until 6 am tomorrow.....?

  6. lovely pile here in m21 this morning, rapid thaw though, so little left by the time the rain began at lunchtime. I looked at the NW forecast which suggests little more than sleet for this week, any ideas on that?

Thanks for the lovely photos! I'm really pleased for those of you who are having your best snowfall of the winter - we were so lucky in January so it's your turn now!

The snow here has gone but it did look good this morning and caught quite a few people out. Looking at the last GFS we only have a low chance of more snow before Wednesday.

  7. What a dissapintment again! Got about a centimetre and a half and its melting fast due to the bloody sun ! wallbash.gif

Same here! Woke up to a nice covering of about 2.5/3 cm which melted whle I was in Church!!! There's patches in the shady parts but it's going fast. Sky is grey and looks like rain....

  8. Where is all the spirit tonight!! There is snow on the way and not a NW'ener in sight!!!

I'm here but I'm desperately trying not to get too excited about this! Pity Backtrack isn't online - he gets very excited at a whiff of snow!!! I am still hoping the snow is heading my way tonight but until it arrives..... :)

I'm still not convinced I'm going to get anything significant, not that I'm an expert or anything, but I do know that things seem to change from hour to hour and I think I'm safer nowcasting! Can't promise I'll be popping in at 3 am to report any snow fall though!!!

Made up to hear Cumbria is getting snow and hope it continues!

There is little doubt in my mind that most places in the region will get a cover snow early tomorrow morning, except, perhaps for the extreme coastal fringes. Even if the conditions aren't perfect, evaporative cooling will feature no doubt.

Also once it hits the Welsh mountains is will slow somewhat so I suggest those in the west of the region could have a fair bit, perhaps up to 5-6cm.

I'd say 3-4cm elsewhere with a rapid thaw tomorrow.

Ah Stephen, just what I wanted to hear! I look forward to seeing my snow cover in the morning! And I'm not even considering the rapid thaw.......

  9. light snow falling now

We've had a mainly sunny day here with beautiful blue skies. It is cooling off now and I've still got my fingers crossed for some snow tonight although after reading the Model Ouput thread, I'm more confused than ever.....

Glad to hear some of you have got/are getting some snow already and fingers crossed for the rest of us!

  10. Surprised ther eisn't more talk about next week in this thread, the 06z model has shifted the threat a little further north which certainly brings the NW very much into play, the 06z GFS would probably give some places upwards to a foot of snow if taken at face value...

Still time for shifts southwards but I'd be more interested today, esp for those close to the Manchester region...

Tomorrow early hours could be interesting for you guys as well...

So plenty to look out for in the NW, the southern parts are almost prime time!

I'm trying not to get excited AGAIN as we've had a few disappointments lately and it seems that it has been too difficult to forecast for certain when the snow is coming.

However, I've just seen the forecast on BBC News which actually has snow over South Liverpool overnight tonight.... they don't normally do that unless they're certain and I see you've mentioned it too!

So next week - where, when, how much????

  11. Again the 18z brings Thurs snow to the south of the region, followed by more snow/showers into the weekend

TBH i have lost total confidence in this model as it has performed very poorly this winter,i find it a good model for

picking up trends but as for PPN it is totally pants

anyway back to the here and now light sleet and thats about it,GFS says i should have moderate snow....nuf said LOL

    C.S

It's raining here in south Liverpool - and snowing at the same time. It's not sleet though. It's raining rain with the odd big snow flake in..... really weird..... :whistling:

  12. Yeah i knew it was going to die out, but didn't expect it to die out completley just as it hit me. BBC even has snow progged for here around 6pm.. Maybe they will be right?

Back from our walk completely dry! Can't take all this excitement followed by nothing - I'm off to lie down in a darkened room for a while.......
