  1. well after the thaw came the...............SNOW again!! pic taken 3 mins ago!!

Lovely photo! Sounds like we've all had similar weather today - a slight thaw with a long, light snow fall. It is still snowing here which must be at least 12 hours now but it is hardly making an impression.

Although it's on our pavements and paths here, the snow on the grass is struggling to stay put. 2.5 miles up the road however in Woolton woods we've just had a glorious walk in an inch or so of fresh snow! From the top of the hill we couldn't see the river, never mind the Welsh mountains, in the white out!

  2. The slush here which has melted a lot today is now crunchy and slippy underfoot. I've just checked the temps at LJLA which is near me and it is 0c there, DP -1c, and they are expecting snow showers.... at the moment anyway!

The RainToday radar now shows what looks like rain/sleet heading our way. The BBC 24 weather report showed the snow clouds broken up and not delivering much in south Liverpool so I'm not expecting much in the morning.

I am, however prepared to be surprised.... :whistling:

  3. It can snow properly at 2C without it being wet slush..it depends on your dewpoint..dont you find it remarable how in the space of 2 miles your getting drizzle and snow, while here it tropical with no precip at all.

I'm 2 miles the other way from you and I'm getting very light snizzle!! Maybe the Hale Parochial Council have told the snow it can't fall there....! :cc_confused:

  4. Raining here.

Thicker snow has melted here in South Liverpool to show the grass in patches and roads are turning to slush except where solid ice is. We've had a tiny bit of light rain in the last hour and although it is cold in the wind which is light, it's not too bad. LJLA are going for cloud and sleety showers for tonight and tomorrow and their current temp is 3c.

  5. From Liverpool City Council website - looks like they're expecting more snow......

"There are sufficient grit supplies to continue gritting the major roads network over the weekend to tackle freezing conditions. There will also be further gritting of bus routes and danger spots.

On Thursday, the city received 130 tonnes of rock salt and a further 40 tonnes from British Salt, with more supplies expected to arrive on Monday.

Teams of staff will be working until 10pm tonight clearing ice and snow from pavements at bus and rail stations, priority pavements in the city centre and district shopping centres and at pedestrian crossings. They will start again at 4am tomorrow."

  6. Hi everyone,

Been reading the site for a while but only registered today.

I was still up at 1.45am and we had light snow in Maghull just north of Liverpool, near Ormskirk.

I can't wait to see if we get more this weekend, but only after we have been out to get some shopping later on!!

    Hi Jenny

I was a 'lurker' for a long time before I joined. You have to hit the ground running in here because it's very busy! Although I'm an amateur I have learned such a lot just from reading the posts and I rely on the NW boards for my weather forecasts instead of the TV!

  7. I cant see any cloud to the east at all?

Just looked at raintoday.co.uk and there seems to be a scattering of some very small snow clouds appearing across the Wirral, Cheshire and Liverpool. I don't know enough to work out if they're going to get together to form one big one but they seem to be coming out of nowhere! When I came home at 5 pm the sky did look like it was starting to cloud slightly.

  8. And how's it only -2C at Liverpool AP? I'm in South Liverpool right now and it's absolutely freezing.

Still no buses running, and my housemate's friend can't fly back to France because EasyJet haven't cleared their planes of ice. Never known chaos like it. Can I get to work over in the Wirral tomorrow?

It's warmed up to -2c now!! And yes, it is FREEZING outside!!

  9. Yes, proper snow! Whilst the dog walk was very cold, I had on my ski jacket, big furry hat, thick gloves, walking boots etc. I love it when the snow creaks and crunches under foot, not the usual slushy splash that we normally get.

I tried to make a few snowballs for the dog to chase, but the snow is too cold, its just powder. Also, the pavements are easier to walk on this evening. The ice seems to loose some of its slippiness at these temps.

Don't the dogs just love the snow? Ours were either eating it or rolling in it! (Or turning it yellow.... :) )

Our snow has gone a little harder here and some of the roads are very shiny with the ice. Grit would have no impact now...

  10. Morning all i think i got maybe a cm top up last night which is most welcome, Quite cloudy to my east and North and the sun is out the two and a half inches that fell last night dont look like thawing just yet.

What a beautiful morning! The snow is still here, the sun has got his hat on, and for the first time in my life I've been given a day off because of the snow!

Most of the staff couldn't get to the office because of the roads and the fact that there's no public transport yet in Liverpool so we all got the day off. Even Liverpool Airport is closed again which is very unusual. We have also had about another centimetre overnight but I'm not expecting any more now until the weekend.

  11. still light snow in northwich

That appears to be heading towards us in South Liverpool but not sure if it will have any strength/snow left by the time it gets here. Our snow from this afternoon is still coating the tree branches which is very unusual here. It normally melts quite quickly so I presume it will still be here in the morning!

Ah, the end of a lovely day - sigh!

    :shok:

  12. Just a few pics from earlier. I'm kicking myself as I forgot to take my camera yesterday, when the skies were crystal clear and wonderful deep blue.

These are all taken around Hollingworth lake - the first pic is not of a field behind the branch - it's a lake lol

    enjoy

Lovely! Really enjoying the photos posted here!

  13. Wow! what a day! It's years since we've had snow falling and settling like today! There must be at least 4 inches in places. It's stopped snowing here now but the sky is still orangey white and the snow has covered every branch, leaf and berry on the trees. We visited Speke Hall in the middle of it all and enjoyed the 2 hours to the max. Here are a few photos.
