  1. I smell rain guys!

PPN is 40 miles away, and the temperatures are hovering around 3c around the region. Dew points are too high aswell.

No it's not, if you play the radar from 30 mins ago, you will see the band is heading in a North East direction.

Thanks Backtrack - I hope you're right! We'll be out in it, whatever it's doing, in about two hours so fingers crossed it's white and fluffy 'rain'.... :cc_confused:

  2. Had heavy snow here too, lasted about 15 mins and put a slight covering down.Just looked at the rain today radar and it looks like there is quite a few showers to the east making there way over the pennines .

Just had about 23 flakes in the back garden but that's about it!!!

Would be a nice surprise to get some snow as not expecting it today in south Liverpool.

  3. I know I am a bit higher out of town than you, but just been out and already a few flakes blowing in the wind which bodes well if you ask me!

Just had a look at the GFS 18z and it looks like most of our North West area is heading for snow on Monday afternoon. Being a newby here I can't be certain that I'm reading the right chart in the right way <_< so how does it look to the rest of you?

  4. Okay let me try and give you a quick summary based on the ECM please correct me if i am wrong

GFS and UKMO will give snow almost anywere

ECM dissapointing for NW england...sunny but very cold by day, severe frosts at night

so if like me you want snow GFS and UKMO the best models today.....ECM this evening not the best...

    C.S

Thanks CS. I had a quick look at the MOD too and they seem to think dahn sarf will get the snow.... :) For today, I'll just admire the GFS!!

  5. Could be an interesting rush hour for Manchester and Liverpool area if this NAE 18z comes off

I hope so Mr Data. As Chris said we were spoiled in January! I did enjoy the graupel though at the weekend even though it washed away Sunday. I don't understand why my colleagues prefer grey and wet days instead of bright, white days!

It's rained all day here off and one and we really need our wellies in the fields and on the shore to walk the dogs.

    (Counsellor Troi..... I wish!!! :) )

  6. Well we've just had a snow shower and it has stuck (only a covering though)....it is cold out there just above 0C

Same here in Speke but every forecast I look tonight at has something different for tomorrow! Snow all day OR scattered sleet showers OR some in night but nothing in day OR snow only on higher ground.... :)

As I wasn't expecting anything yesterday or today and had a pleasant surprise, I am totally confused as to what to expect now! Has this been one of the hardest winters to predict?

  7. hey ho we had a bit of graupel here today, about 2 ish or so, did settle for a bit. fingers crossed for more though. it aint spring yet!

We had the same here about half 11 last night. It's melting where the sun hits it now but it's a beautiful sunny, crisp and freezing cold winter's day. Our NetWeather forecast shows a 70% chance of snow here for most of tomorrow.... fingers crossed!

    :cold:

  8. Just had a moderate snow shower in Wallasey. :)

Still too warm for stickage at the moment. What we need is a decent frost.

We had a very light snow flurry here in the South Liverpool about half an hour ago. Wasn't expecting to see that today! :) It only lasted about 10 minutes and although the sky is black to the south of me now (Ellesmere Port), the sun is shining!

  9. Just cold and gray here today, but after tomorrow things should start looking interesting .Lets hope the nly does us proud and gives us a good dumping and leaves nothing for them greedy southerns.

I hope you're right Les - I'm sick of these misty, grey, nondescript days. Over the weeked the NetWeather forecast for today showed a slim chance of snow showers but it's back to 0% now. It certainly feels colder today so I hope that northerly you're talking about delivers!

  10. Indeed

A very intresting development again on the 0z Fri night into Sat Morning giving a snow event in NW

England,my only worry is that the way the models are perforing atm Fri/Sat is probably FI thats why there

    is no one posting atm.

    C.S

    Did someone mention snow????

What parts of our region does it look likely to be crossing?

  11. Why do we still have a NW cold spell thread?...i'm a cold/snow fan but as far as i'm concerned the cold spell is dead(it's unbelievably mild here today 5.9c), and despite some straw clutching on the model Discussion thread ,there is little to suggest it's going to return in the near future...i would love to se it return but it looks to me that the big HP block to the east is being pushed further east by the Atlantic weather systems and will continue for a while yet...

i'm just waiting for spring and summer to return now

Spurry, do you think that's it for winter now then, staying this mild for the next few months until spring? I thought the predictions were for a cold, harsh winter but I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as some here and may have got the wrong end of the stick. I'd be disappointed not to get some more snow out of winter though instead of these boring, grey, wet days.

  12. We had some very heavy sleet first thing this morning. Listening to the radio, they were saying the A53 Leek-Buxton road was open! I was thinking, if it's sleeting here, what must it be like 1,000 ft higher up?

Anyhoo, our small & long lasting snow cover is gone. I was amazed how much was lost between getting home from work at 4PM & going out at 7. The path was covered in ice at 4, but by 7 it was all gone.

I suppose4 those of you further north who had 10-15 cms last weeki are still holding on to some & good luck to you!

All our snow has gone from here now, washed away by yesterday's drizzle and higher temperatures. Has anyone seen confirmation of another cold snap yet?

  13. Okey Dokey!

Have spoken with the powers that be................and

Tomorrow there will be a New Sub Forum above this one near where the Snow Reports Live called "Regional Threads" and all the Regionals are going to be moved there and stay put for the winter, so this thread will be kept open until tomorrow when it will be moved into it's new home!

    Regards

    Paul S

Thanks Paul! I was filling up here, reading all the goodbye messages.... :yahoo: And I'm still hopeful of more snow this winter!

  14. Yes its been great sharing the fun with other weather fans.

The best winter here and on NW ever i think.

We'll do well to better it in the coming years!

    cheers everyone.

BTW i just close my curtains when the thaw sets in that way its not to stressful.

    :yahoo:

I have to say I have enjoyed this forum board too this year, reading all the comments from across the North West, the anticipation, the disappointments then the joy when we finally got snow! The photos brought it all to life. Thank you to those of you who are experts for your patience with us amateurs! I've learned a lot!

Here's to the next 'cold spell'!

  15. the journey home from work tonight was the worst of the period due to the icy state of even the main roads.

did see a couple of gritters about but were flashing orange lights and not much else.

obviously saving what grit is available for when the roads are safer. LOL!

    Ian

We thought we saw a gritter this morning out of the office window..... but it was a bin lorry - almost as rare but not quite!
