Gunna have a read of my book and post exerts and charts in here to dream about what winters we used to have. Hopefully it gives hope of what can happen and what winters used to be like.

Yh had a feeling Heybridge, Danbury etc would do ok out of this, my sweet spot would have been Braintree through Bury St Edmonds to west of Norwich so nice to see at least walkable crunchy snow pics coming in from there but certainly no Amber warning needed for this event - Another Fail for the Met Office

Ahhh thats cute
Heavier Precip arrives and its now all rain
At least I saw some snowflakes falling, last covering March 2nd 2018 so 34 and a half months and counting probably be able to make that 35 months when the next 2 weeks are written off. I did see 15 foot drifts in Norway and Sweden in 2019 though on my DIY Northern Lights trip and flights up there are very cheap when we are able to fly again so all is not lost if snowy winters do become extinct in the SE of the Uk

Never say never would you believe this chart produced snow for London and the SE on the 6th Jan 1968 with -3c Uppers. Its such a fickle thing forecasting snow and lots down to luck
Have a great book that lists all events of winter back to 1840 and you can just look at the Metiociel Archive charts to see what the synoptic pattern was etc Below is an exert from the book for that day
There was some unexpected light snow in southern central England on Saturday 6th. There was a notable snowstorm in the south on the 8-9th, affecting a large area of the country from North Wales down to the southeast of England Snow started in Southampton just before 2 pm. By the next morning in some areas there were drifts 3 m deep

Bang On Mick
Really lovely atmosphere in here and lots of 1 liners and jokes, lets be honest this type of Snowfall is a bonus and its not the proper spell we crave when the better set up comes in (the one rarer than hens teeth) so lets just enjoy and see what happens

That map shows perfectly the Influence of that bloody Sea around us, need the breeze to come from the west really or from the south west where the colder clearer weather is. As Southender says its too cloudy here

Fits well with the UKV's consistent modelling of rain along the Estuary I suppose..
Certainly looks that way at the moment but 10 miles north at Danbury with 367ft asl am sure there will be some decent falls

1830z readings from here are grim
Temp 3.2c

Lol we have our own Microclimate it seems. I know where I will be heading tomorrow and it aint down the Estuary.

2 things to note
GFS not having anything to do with this IS a great Sign - When Canon Fodder says no it will happen, Poor old Goofus will probably pick up on it with its 18z or 00z run - Its in a word Appalling with Mesoscale as I have said before
2nd Point it really it strange here Temps of 3c and Dewpoint of 1c in fact the warmest it has felt since late december and that 1 mild day last weekend maybe the Estuary and the easterly we have warming things around the Estuary always a bad sign for here but there will be winners tomorrow for sure

South East and East Anglia Weather Discussion January 2021 onwards

Yes the Plains are having quite a winter it seems. Texas Panhandle, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas, the High Plains also. Even a few of my Canadian Chase friends had a near 100mph Blizzard west of Saskatoon a few days back. All bodes well for plenty of moisture in the ground come Spring time now the quetion is, can we get over there to chase in the 2021 Tornado Season as it could be a belter.
