Preparing & Coping with Extreme Heat
Sparkiee storm replied to Sparkiee storm's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
I agree, especially with a fan on so you get the cooler air circulating inside without escaping and being overtook by the high temperatures. -
This thread is for anyone worried about extreme heat. A place to offer advice and suggestion's for all on how to prepare for it and how to cope a little better once its here. A few from myself here; Having a fan (possibly place a thin cold damp towel or cloth over it so it blows out cooler air into the room) Keep hydrated Cold/cool shower Being in a pool (don't get burned as UV will be high) Don't take pets on long walks and make sure they have plenty of water too, and watch out for very hot surfaces. Grass will be okay. Try your best to not do strenuous activities especially outdoors but also in non air conditioned areas.

Been checking it occasionally to see how things are looking and developing, always good to check as they always come close or hit up this end a little while after when things are coming in from the South, SSW . Looking dark on there now. -

First thunderstorm of the year here earlier today around 4:30/5ish, half a dozen rumbles with 1 visible flash accompanied by a decent downpour with hail, which some stones were approaching pea size. -

I'm pretty sure i seen some very weak rotation in the clouds here too, hardly noticeable though, just the very slightest circular motion but no funnel. -
I'm not sure, i first started taking notice in January when NOAA said it was outperforming the official forecast and actual counts are stronger than predicted, but whether or not they said anything before then I'm not sure.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned on this thread but its clear that solar cycle 25 is starting much stronger and much earlier than forecast. Any idea's what could be causing this? Some say it could be "something happening" in space that's making the sun active much earlier than the forecast. Some also say its likely we could see a huge flare somewhere between now and 2025, with some even predicting a Carrington style event or maybe an event that narrowly missed earth back in 2012, but no hard evidence on that. Certainly some odd behaviour though. Solar Cycle Progression | NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center WWW.SWPC.NOAA.GOV

Heavy showers developing to the North of London, and a few SE of Bristol, while the storms are coming into the South Coast.
