  1. The seas around the UK are seriously warm at the moment due to the persistent heat. 20-21C SSTs touching Cornwall now: Quite a lot of energy there if we get any southerly tracking lows in Autumn.
  2. Mostly clear overnight and during the morning, before turning cloudy with bright spells in the afternoon and evening. We're now on 30 days without any rain. Max Temp: 26.8C Min Temp: 14.3C Mean Wind: 9mph S Max Gust: 13mph Sunshine: 5.9hrs Rainfall: None Currently cloudy with a temp of 20.8C and 67% humidity.
  3. I can't speak for everyone, but I've had no issues with the outside temperatures, but rather how warm it is getting inside. Even with the windows open all night it didn't drop much below 25C in here. That's the issue really, our house is so well insulated that there's no escape from it. If I had air con inside then I'd be quite happy for it to be 30C every day, until my electricity bill came that is!
  4. If its in the form of showers, inland generally gets hit while the onshore breeze kills it off here. Eastern areas look particularly dry.
  5. 29 days without a drop of rain here now and GFS 12z has us with just 3mm between now and the 30th - all of which is supposed to fall tomorrow night and into Tuesday. I suspect any areas that miss out over the next few days could be waiting a while looking at the models.
  6. Clear in the morning, with patchy cloud bubbling up in the afternoon but remaining sunny. The maximum temperature of 28.9C was the warmest here in July since 2006. We are now on to 29 days without a drop of rain. Max Temp: 28.9C Min Temp: 14.9C Mean Wind: 8mph S Max Gust: 13mph Sunshine: 13.8hrs (at 19:00) Rainfall: None Currently partly cloudy with a temp of 24.2C and 56% humidity.
  7. Not a drop here for 27 days now. So far this summer we've seen 12.6mm and only 43.2mm since 28th April. Monday night or Tuesday look the most likely to provide some rain for this location, so we'll probably go a full month without any - something which hasn't ever happened, even back in 1976.
  8. Yep, locally, the longest period with no rain in summer 1976 was 24 days between 4th-27th August. Though 1976 from 1st June - 13th July had just 5.0mm compared to 12.6mm so far this year.
  9. Here too. No rain for 27 days and only 12.6mm so far this summer. I'll have to check the local figures, but I doubt even 1976 managed that.
  10. We're on 17.6C (+1.6C) to the 8th here. The easterly winds have remained persistent and meant we haven't had a max above 25.4C all summer. The warmest day of the year was actually 19th April when we hit 26.1C!
  11. Another warm, dry day with plenty of sunshine. The morning was mostly clear before cloud moved in during the afternoon. Late-afternoon and early evening was then sunny again, before further cloud moved in during the last couple of hours. Max Temp: 25.2C Min Temp: 13.4C Mean Wind: 8mph E Max Gust: 12mph Sunshine: 11.5hrs Rainfall: None Currently 19.7C and 77% humidity. We've now had no precipitation at all for 22 days.
  12. No precipitation at all here since 16th June, so now on to the 21st day without any. Its not the longest spell in recent times though. Strangely that goes to 2007 of all years! 21st August - 16th September 2007 (27 days) saw no measurable rain, which was very welcome after June and July! 2007 was an odd year, as there was an extended dry period before that wet summer too. 24th March - 7th May 2007 (45 days) had only 1.5mm. Fingers crossed that fortunes don't change for the worse in a similar way this year.
  13. We've just topped 600 hours of sunshine since 1st May here today (Currently on 605hrs). The 1981-2010 average for the same timeframe is only 420 hours so it really has been exceptional (144%). This coupled with just 44.2mm of rain (38% of normal and only 12.6mm in June) and now 21 days without any precipitation at all and we've really seen something special. Temperatures have been less extreme, but still 1.3C above the 1981-2010 average over the timeframe and if the anomaly were to remain until the end of summer it would still be the warmest on record.
  14. Its been an unbelievable start to summer so far. May and June were both the sunniest on record by some way here, with 280hrs (139%) and 241hrs (131%). In fact, since 1st May we have averaged 8.8hrs of sunshine per day, which is no mean feat considering how persistent the easterlies have been. We've only seen 44.2mm of rain in that time too, which was spaced over just 14 days of measurable rain since 28th April. We're now on our 16th day without any precipitation at all. Interestingly we've only surpassed 23C on eight occasions in 2018, two of which were in April, two in May, three in June and once on the 1st of this month. As a result, June was only 1.3C above the 1981-2010 average. The first two days of July are actually running 0.4C below average!
  15. Yes, my point was the spell was so exceptional that we reached 34.0C here, a place that hasn't reached 30C since 2001 despite many hot spells. Thats how unusual it was.
  16. That August 1990 spell was unbelieveable in the North, even here we hit 34.0C that day. To put it into context, we haven't hit 30C now for 17 years!
  17. June anomoly charts from the Metoffice: Definitely best in the west, but still warm, sunny and dry almost everywhere.
  18. It was a much cooler night than expected with a min of 9.9C. It has been quite a weird summer here so far due to the persistent easterlies. I'm not complaining though, we havent had a 24 hour period with a 'min' above 14.9C and a maxima above 23.7C. Its just been sunny, dry and pleasantly warm. I suspect looking at the charts it won't last and we'll join in on the unpleasant heat.
  19. Its only 215 here to the 29th, which is the joint lowest since 2012! Its mainly due to the persistent easterlies and hence a mean max of only 19.7C though. We've only had 10 days with rainfall and we're above average on sunshine.
  20. As someone else who does nights, it's been enjoyable here too, mainly as it didn't ever arrive! We haven't gone above 23.7C all month. In fact, it's only hit 20C twelve times this June and the mean max is 19.7C. It is amazing how different it is when we get one of these 'easterly' summer months. I might not like the heat, but I do like an occasional hot spell, if anything just for the interest of unusual weather.
  21. Amazing how different it has been here with the onshore breeze John, we haven't gone above 23.7C all month and have only reached 20C twelve times this June!
  22. Clear and sunny during the morning, but cloud moving in during the afternoon with occasional sunny spells. Temperatures around average once again but the wind was stronger than recent days so it felt cooler. Max Temp: 19.9C Min Temp: 10.3C Mean Wind: 11mph NE Max Gust: 17mph Sunshine: 10.2hrs Rainfall: None Currently mostly clear with a Temp of 14.1C and 86% humidity.
  23. Its been positively cool here compared to elsewhere, but very pleasant so nothing to complain about. Maxima for the last 8 days have been: 18.3C, 18.8C, 19.6C, 23.2C, 23.0C, 22.5C, 18.8C, 19.7C. Minima were: 9.7C, 8.5C, 8.3C, 8.2C, 10.7C, 9.4C, 11.3C, 12.2C. If it isn't going to break any records then it might as well be like this.
  24. Following on from June, very warm and rather dry: 18.0C and 39mm
  25. Early low cloud dissipated by 8.30am to leave another clear and sunny day. Cooler than inland again due to the onshore breeze but rather pleasant. Now 12 days with no precipitation at all. Max Temp: 19.7C Min Temp: 12.2C Mean Wind: 8mph NE Max Gust: 13mph Sunshine: 9.1hrs (so far) Rainfall: None Currently 18.3C and 70% humidity
