  1. It was a much cooler night than expected with a min of 9.9C. It has been quite a weird summer here so far due to the persistent easterlies. I'm not complaining though, we havent had a 24 hour period with a 'min' above 14.9C and a maxima above 23.7C. Its just been sunny, dry and pleasantly warm. I suspect looking at the charts it won't last and we'll join in on the unpleasant heat.
  2. Its only 215 here to the 29th, which is the joint lowest since 2012! Its mainly due to the persistent easterlies and hence a mean max of only 19.7C though. We've only had 10 days with rainfall and we're above average on sunshine.
  3. As someone else who does nights, it's been enjoyable here too, mainly as it didn't ever arrive! We haven't gone above 23.7C all month. In fact, it's only hit 20C twelve times this June and the mean max is 19.7C. It is amazing how different it is when we get one of these 'easterly' summer months. I might not like the heat, but I do like an occasional hot spell, if anything just for the interest of unusual weather.
  4. Amazing how different it has been here with the onshore breeze John, we haven't gone above 23.7C all month and have only reached 20C twelve times this June!
  5. Clear and sunny during the morning, but cloud moving in during the afternoon with occasional sunny spells. Temperatures around average once again but the wind was stronger than recent days so it felt cooler. Max Temp: 19.9C Min Temp: 10.3C Mean Wind: 11mph NE Max Gust: 17mph Sunshine: 10.2hrs Rainfall: None Currently mostly clear with a Temp of 14.1C and 86% humidity.
  6. Its been positively cool here compared to elsewhere, but very pleasant so nothing to complain about. Maxima for the last 8 days have been: 18.3C, 18.8C, 19.6C, 23.2C, 23.0C, 22.5C, 18.8C, 19.7C. Minima were: 9.7C, 8.5C, 8.3C, 8.2C, 10.7C, 9.4C, 11.3C, 12.2C. If it isn't going to break any records then it might as well be like this.
  7. Following on from June, very warm and rather dry: 18.0C and 39mm
  8. Early low cloud dissipated by 8.30am to leave another clear and sunny day. Cooler than inland again due to the onshore breeze but rather pleasant. Now 12 days with no precipitation at all. Max Temp: 19.7C Min Temp: 12.2C Mean Wind: 8mph NE Max Gust: 13mph Sunshine: 9.1hrs (so far) Rainfall: None Currently 18.3C and 70% humidity
  9. Ironically it might not be raining soon at all looking at the models! The GFS 06z had no rain for me here until T+384. That would be almost a month with not even a trace of precipitation. Very unusual!
  10. You often get 1995 and 1976 mentioned when it comes to good summers as they weren't just the best for decades, but the best two summers in over 250 years. In the CET series back to 1659, 1976 is the warmest and 1995 the 3rd warmest. In the England and Wales rainfall series, 1995 is the driest and 1976 the second driest. 1976 was also the sunniest and 1995 the third sunniest. They're probably the summer equivalent to the 1947 and 1963 winters. To answer your question, both May 1995 and 1976 weren't anything exceptional. I imagine no-one had any idea at the time of what was to come.
  11. Clear and sunny after early cloud melted away this morning. Temperatures close to average due to the onshore breeze. Max Temp: 18.8C Min Temp: 11.2C Mean Wind: 8mph E Max Gust: 12mph Rainfall: None Sunshine: 8.2hrs (so far) Currently 17.5C and 72% humidity.
  12. Once the cloud cleared by 10am it has turned into a lovely day here with clear skies. The temperatures are much cooler in this area with the onshore breeze, maxing out at 18.8C so far. The wind is light so it feels very nice. This month reminds me a lot of parts of summer 1995 which was not a hot summer overall here due to a persistent onshore breeze. The mean temp for that summer was 16.18C, which is lower than summer 2013, 2016 and 2017. It was dry and sunny though. This month for comparison is only 0.9C above the 1981-2010 average so far, but has seen just 12.6mm of rain and already has sunshine 101% of normal with 3 days to go yet.
  13. With these persistent easterlies it has been quite a bit cooler here. In fact we havent got above 23.7C all month. Mind you, there's little to complain about with days like today: clear skies and a max of 22.5C after a min of 9.4C. The easterlies have been a running theme since late-February. I'm betting by mid-Autumn it'll switch to westerlies and we'll be stuck with those for months!
  14. Haven't had much luck this year so far due to relentless cloud overnight, but hoping next week provides an opportunity during the hot spell.
  15. There's probably a good chance John, we had a min of 16.6C which is the warmest on record here back to 1980. Currently cloudy with sunny spells and a keen south-westerly breeze. Warm again with a temperature of 22.4C.
  16. All the talk of heat next week yet we unexpectedly recorded the warmest June minimum on record last night. The min of 16.6C beat the previous record of 16.4C set on 18th June 2005. These warm records do seem to get broken out of nowhere these days, only seven other days have had minima above 12C so far this year.
  17. It's starting to look like a NE Lincs hit rather than here on the radar to be honest. It's all gone a bit quiet. The rain has just started to we'll know in minute!
  18. I can hear thunder to the west now but it looks like it's becoming messy on the radar, especially just to the north.
  19. Its been astonishing, just 31 days haven't had an easterly component to the wind since mid-February. Never known anything like it. If it wants to do that in winter then it can feel free, but funnily they always seem to be westerly then!
  20. Still without a single day of thunder yet in 2018. Looking at the radar surely today is going to be the first in the next couple of hours. At least the wind isn't onshore so that's the first obstacle out of the way!
  21. Apparently it was a 3.9. Epicentre was about 8 miles SE of here. Certainlt felt that one, though not a patch on February 2008's 5.2.
  22. It has been the total opposite here. In May we had 280hrs of sunshine, but the first 8 days of June have only managed 25hrs!
  23. We're on 14.5C (+1.4C) to the 7th. It just shows how much cooler it has been here with the onshore breeze. May was only 1.4C above average for the same reason.
