Hoping for a dry warm spring here...spring tends to be cool and wet in Alberta and is my least favourite season of the year..no doubt it will snow of and on up to the middle of May as per and mosquitoes will abound come June
thats because your more likely to be leaving work or school at 4-5pm this is why it is more noticeable in January ...your less likely to be out and about on a daily basis at 10pm at night in July so you notice it less.
Did we? i remember the bleak snow free years of 1997-2009..they were shocking and the very mild snow less winters 1988-91..its not unusual for the UK to go 4 or 5 winters with no snow...and never has been..anyway if there was lots of snow each year like here in Canada you soon get bored of it as it becomes the norm.
You could pick out the obvious Feb 1978, Dec 78, Jan 79 Dec 81 etc..but lets not forget epics like Feb 1990 or 1998.and Dec 15..Dec 91 was interesting due to some very cold and severe frosts yet not a flake of snow
I would agree about 2014 & 16 neither were hot summers..warm with some short lived hot spells thrown in..but not in the same class of a proper hot summer..where heat is sustained for long periods of times..im not sure about summer 2017..it has the potential to be a hot one..really depends how spring pans out.
I would say the period 1997 - 2009 where the worst run of winters in my lifetime for cold and snow without a shadow of a doubt...only Feb 09 and Dec 09 saved the decade of 00 from being possibly the worst on record.
yes a marked turn round in the NH atmosphere set up in the last 36 hrs...PV now looking to set up in the usual position..the pacific ridge is leaking away back south which will just reinforce the set up...bad news if your looking for a cold blocked outlook this side of the Atlantic..and will take some shifting if it shifts at all..if so better luck next winter!
ill think you will find the chart is annual snow lying days not just December... in that case then 2.2 would be about right for December if the annual rate is 5-10.
I really don't understand the obsession with snow?????????...I had to drive from Calgary to Edmonton last week and woke up to find it was throwing it down with snow and my car was partly buried with snow..not only do then have to spend time brushes my car off..i had forgotten the hair raising experience of driving up the highway in the dark in white out conditions..at that point I was thinking roll on spring..just make it stop for the love of god!
it wont it and will get cold take my word for it..im expecting a cold last week of December and a below average Jan and Feb..take it from one that knows..
