  1. I think the issue is that snow rarely hangs around here for people to get used to it..so it always seems as though we just cant cope..in reality its just a learning curve..believe you me when the first snows arrive in countries like Canada chaos does ensue for a couple of days until people readjust their mind set//like switching from summer to winter mode..there is a short transition period then things revert back to type..here we rarely get beyond those first few days before the snow disappears again.
  2. yes I don't get all the doom mongering either..it comparison to Canadian winters, winters like 62-3 are pretty tame. For example the winter of 2010-11 in Edmonton where I was living the temperature only got above 0c on four occasions between the 13th November 2010 - 29th March 2011..cold and snow just becomes the norm and you just go on with everyday life as usual its no big deal really.
  3. I can think of numerous better things I wouldn't mind seeing when I open those curtains
  4. you missed... a few more runs are still needed and the old classic..its still all to play for!!
  5. not sure that is right these are 850hpa so its not tht cold ..slightly below average at best ..certainly no ice age temps showing
  6. I was living in Canada in January 2010..so I'm my mind it doesn't exist if I'm not there
  7. not had a really cold Jan since 1987 at 0.8c which is only because of that short intense cold spell..last sub zero Jan was 1979..it now ranks as the longest time for any of the winter months..(Dec = 2010, Feb = 1986) since the last occasion...strange how only in the 20th century and now that Jan & Feb have the same CET... previously Jan historically was much colder than Feb.
  8. i suspect there is something in this..the weather patterns across the Europe and North America during the 2nd half of 2010 were pretty unusual to say the least.
  9. I'm hoping for some semblance of sanity on this forum during the winter months..however as usual no doubt it will shortly descend into the usual chaos of dummy spitting, arm waving, finger pointing and general crying/bellyaching about everything and everyone
  10. i never met anyone who finds t-storms relaxing...must be missing something here
  11. as long as it is dry doesn't really matter whether it is cold or mild...days of cloud and drizzle or rain don't float my boat at all...actually a repeat of the winter 91/2 wouldn't b too shabby at all
  12. I think a cold mid-west North American continent promotes a colder Europe than a cold Eastern side...both 2014 and 15 were cold in the eastern part of North America but were mild across Europe..where as 2010-11 was Cold In the mid western areas of North America and warm in the east but cold prevailed in Europe..another example is Feb 1991..exceptiianlly warm in eastern US bitter cold in Europe.
  13. I really enjoyed the summers on the Canadian prairies..they are often very sunny and warm/hot but is a dry heat ..for example it can 34c but feels like 26c here its the other way around can be 26c but feels like 34c you cant escape the humidity which often makes British summer weather feel hotter than it actually is.
  14. I concur with Mr P warm and dryish first two weeks at least then more seasonal last 10 days ie wet and miserable but not cold.....12.0c
  15. Still not put any heating on since I moved back from Canada over 2 years ago..having said that I recently moved to an old 1860s small house from a nice new apartment..have to see how long I can last without heating being on?
  16. Met office should stick to forecasting the weather obviously geography is not their strong point.
  17. Writtle is just outside Chelmsford..i wouldn't class Essex as East Anglia
  18. I'm not sure you ever will in the UK...so I'm basically saying your are not missing much.
  19. You would soon get bored and the novelty wears off...long cold winters are not all they are cracked up to be
  20. back to square one again...I cant quote anything press on the quote button and nothing happens...have quoted my earlier post but as can be seen nothing appears?
  21. I was trying to quote but nothing was happening but as you can see above now it is??? been like it for a week..and its on a laptop.
