  1. So what caused the cold weather (along with a few blizzards) between Xmas and early January then? It seems to me, that the extreme cold had set-in weeks before the Canadian warming exerted its effect?
  2. Well, I still recall January 1987; my heating was on its highest setting, running virtually non-stop. I think that that was the most expensive ten days, weatherwise, I've ever known!
  3. We might moan about the Beeb and the Met. Office, but GBeebies is surely setting the bar at an all-time low:
  4. Well, according to the Met. Office, the models are all over the place. So, keep those snow-shovels at the ready. . .
  5. Indeed, Si: even back in the 1960s, snow before Xmas was a 'bonus'. Though, these days, what with Climate Change, even the old adages are getting stretched.
  6. But guess who's in the green bit. . . Yours bloody truly, that's who!!
  7. And what about that snow-buildup over Russia and Scandinavia? That cannot be a bad thing.
  8. This has sort of lost me: how can an arbitrary segment of the year deserve a record?
  9. TBH, and no offence meant to anyone, I'll start taking all this hype seriously, the moment I can wipe the astoundingness off my living-room window. . . Meanwhile it's a case of 'a million times bitten, a million-and-oneth-time shy!'
  10. From my own perspective, the only reason for 'liking' cold weather is the chance of seeing some snow. Otherwise, it's a waste of my fuel bill.
