    That's because the 1963 'analogue' has well passed its use-by date, the use-by for 1947 is coming within range of the models, and 1991's is the next one on the list! Didn't one of the 1960s' Springs have lots of snow in April?

    Well, and thankfully there's no [unlike] button, if I can't have any really meaningful cold, super-mild is the next best scenario...

    To be fair, rather than the model itself being 'overrated', it's its minuscule (verification stats) advantage over the GFS, in the far-reaches of FI, that causes a few folk to mislead themselves? I really do care if, at T+300, the ECM outscores the GFS by 0.2% or whatever; at that distance, it's the intra-run spread of the potential solutions that matters and not the individual options themselves, I think?

    Just has a really heavy snow shower; and it's virtually gone already. Is that from the front out west? Cos the speed at which that crosses the region is just about the only 'exciting' thing on today's 06Z!

    A wee touch of sleety snow in the wind, just now. It could be a hairy night: frozen slush/ice inland and potential tidal flooding for those living by the coast...

    I'm guessing, but I think that the analogues merely predispose certain types of overall hemispheric patterns? But, as with all cases of predisposition there are other factors, 'contraindications' that suggest a million and one other possibilities? For want of a better analogy, not everyone who's predisposed to contracting lung cancer does so...
