  1. Another day wasted; the Triangle has successfully evaded the white stuff. Again!
  2. Aye, Nick - if the GFS 06Z was right, and there's little or no wind around, then coldish misty-type weather might hang around, for central and eastern areas, until (if) the easterlies come in?
  3. Defo southwesterly over here...And...the rain has duly arrived.
  4. And there's that pesky wee patch of -4C uppers (GFS) crossing the Triangle of Doom, sometime tomorrow morning...
  5. It looks - to me at least - that the 'starting pistol' has been fired, and that the teleconnections have at last come into play? Maybe they take a wee while longer to manifest than was hitherto believed? Anywho, I'll let Tamara and GP decide on that one!
  6. I'm thinking that IF the 06Z is anywhere near to reality, any snow that falls (in central/eastern parts, anyway) between now and Sunday might still be around in ten days' time?
  7. Cloudy and 6C, here. The WB temp is falling away though; all surfaces are drying out.
  8. Black ice and/or frozen slush...A nightmare for drivers!
  9. According to the NW Home Page, sunny Beccles is currently 6C and sunny. Hmmm?
  10. And that would be what, Fred? The moon? Sunspots? So why were all those 'main drivers' wrong, last week, when you praised the GFS 06Z, for being very accurate?
  11. Does that really matter, SB? It ain't going to change the weather, is it? Even the late, great Bert Foord would often end his forecast with, 'at least it'll be mild.' And that was way back in the 'swingin' sixties'!
  12. That's probably true, Norrona2015, given that England's population is ten times that of Scotland, and I take no insult from your comment - I've seen/heard folks (Germans, Sassenachs, Americans, Albanachs...) trotting off up Cairngorm, wearing shorts and tee-shirts, when temps at the Ptarmigan Centre were at or below zero...Every country has its muppets!
  13. I'm not too sure, S; but frozen slush/black ice can form in minutes. I was delayed at Inversneckie/Dalcross one time, as the plane (and, presumably, the runway) had to be continually de-iced. And that was wet snow!
  14. Right then, folks - here it comes, the model we've all been waiting for - the nearly man of models, Steve Murr's best friend, spender of too much time spent going for the yellow or the green; maybe, this time, it'll be all about the blue and the pink...It's - the GFS 12Z!
  15. I daren't look at the Excess's front page...Wall of Snow to Hit London: 50ft Snowdrifts Coming Soon!
  16. Considering the amount of damage/disruption this system has already caused, I'm surprised it hasn't been named?
  17. I can recall rain falling at -6C. But that was the 1963 ice storm!
  18. Not to worry MQ: the MetO is forecasting -1C up there tonight...My old home, seven-miles up Glenurquhart will be in for a right pasting, too!
  19. I think I agree with you, WB...Away from major towns, I've seen sleet (in the form of ready-made slush!) settle, on wet ground; whereas, at other times (usually within large conurbations?) snow that fell on dry ground has not... As you say, given the right ambient conditions (ground temp, DB and WB temps) falling snow will have no option but to settle...The melting point of ice is pretty constant??
  20. Given that far FI is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard, my only reason for a wee bit of disappointment is that it's looking increasingly likely that incoming milder air may well meet little opposition, come Sunday. If that happens, any remaining lying snow will be leading a charmed life...That said, there's plenty of potential; the building blocks are falling into place!
