  1. Yes, sunshine just feels so good whether it is 30 degrees or 3 degrees. Personally hoping we get some more crisp sunny days throughout the winter as well as plenty of sunshine during spring and summer.
  2. I will forever remember 2023 as being a year with the right setups but at the wrong times. The weather in February should have happened in March. The weather in March should have happened in February. The weather in April should have happened in November. The weather in May should have happened in September. The weather in July should have happened in October. The weather in August should have happened in September. The weather in September should have happened in July. The weather in October should have happened in May. The weather in December should have happened in November.
  3. 13 Celsius in June - "Brr it's cold. I need to put the heating on." 13 Celsius in December - "Windows wide open and no heating needed today."
  4. That would make for a good seasonal year. Yes please.
  5. I wouldn't say that prolonged mild and dry is rare. But I would say that mild AND sunny is, until we get to around mid Feb. Mild and dry during the winter is almost always dominated by cloud, just like this current spell for example.
  6. I have a love-hate relationship with this current spell. What I love about it is that for once it isn't raining and it's nice to not have to worry about getting drenched on my commute to and from work. What I hate about it is that it is boring from a weather enthusiast's perspective, as is often the way with high pressure at this time of the year unless it's the crisp and sunny kind. Still, I don't believe in giving up on winter just yet as there is still plenty of time for cold.
  7. I don't understand all the sniping at those in the model thread tbh. There is no harm in showing great enthusiasm in something you are passionate about, in this instance being cold winters. Whilst cold winters are more or less improbable these days, there is nothing wrong in hoping and showing an interest all the same. Weather enthusiasts being on a weather forum is surely to be expected.
  8. The UK climate is generally very trying for weather enthusiasts, and that goes for all year round. Thunderstorms in summer, snow in winter and sunshine at any time of the year can be hard to get hold of and when they do occur don't usually last all that long.
  9. I find that many ordinary folk tend to want a bit of snow over the Christmas period, but would otherwise like winters to be mild, dry and non disruptive. In summer, I have personally found the number of heat lovers and heat haters to be around 50/50, and equally so on here. Also on here, I would estimate that around 70% of people want cold and snow during winter. As for rain and cloud, it seems to be hated equally as much by people on here as it is by ordinary people. Unless there is a named storm, to which some us weather enthusiasts would be excited about.
  10. Yes, that is true. I have certainly noticed that we seem to have been losing our unpredictability in recent years. As well as what you have mentioned, almost every year nowadays September is an extension of summer with an unsettled spell around the 22nd (can't remember the last widely settled equinox). February is also more like a spring month and Christmas day is always cloudy. We used to complain at times over how unpredictable our climate was, but now we are complaining about it becoming more predictable. Never happy us lot are we?
  11. Looking forward to finally having a dry spell. As much as I want more crisp and frosty sunshine days, for now I just want it to be dry whether it is cloudy, sunny, cold or mild I don't care. It's only December anyway, so there is plenty of time yet for some cold potential. I am just tired of getting caught in the rain on my commute home from work.
  12. Happy belated birthday. Though I must admit, for some reason I assumed you were in your 20s or 30s.
  13. Both on here and in real life, I keep hearing people mention that they used to love cold winters but detest it more the older they get. I am the exact opposite. Up until around 2010 I was 100% a summer person - I hated the cold and wanted it to be as mild during the winter as possible (though I have always liked snow). But since then I have learned to appreciate the cold and find myself enjoying it more the older I get. I love those crisp sunshine days where the air feels nice and fresh, particularly when accompanied by frost or snow which add colour to what would otherwise be a bleak landscape seeing as nature is in hibernation.
  14. Yes, I agree with that. As much as I love cold and snow during the winter, I lose interest once we get to mid March and by that point want it to start warming up.
  15. Currently 19.8 Celsius upstairs with the heating on.
  16. Some people on here actually prefer that over those lovely crisp sunny days we recently had. Crazy. But each to our own I guess.
  17. Was meant to say "Won't anybody think of the snowmen". But too late to edit.
  18. Won't need to think of the snowmen. Their lives matter too.
  19. January will be fairly quiet and high pressure dominated with anticyclonic gloom for much of time, but there will be a few crisp and sunny days here and there. A January 2017 redux more or less. February will see some more crisp sunny days but unsettled at times also with a named storm around the 10th. The latter half will be mild on the most part with some springlike days. March will be largely unsettled but there will be a few springlike days here and there. Overall quite a forgettable month with very little to no interest. After on uninspiring start to April, spring starts to take hold from mid month onwards with some areas reaching 25 Celsius later on in the month with plenty of sunshine. May will be settled and fairly warm with a very warm spell around the 24th, followed by scattered thunderstorms. June will be payback for the warm spells during April and May. Warm and sunny for the first few days of the month, but largely unsettled thereafter with unseasonably low pressure around mid month leading to rain and some strong winds. July quietens down somewhat though still nothing to shout about. A pretty average summer month overall. August will be the best month of the summer, with many warm/hot days and scattered thunderstorms and temperatures reaching 35 Celsius during the first half of the month. Quieter during the latter third of the month with temps around or just below average. September will have a few warm days throughout the month, but with some autumnal days added in too. Temps around average overall, and some chilly nights later on. Particularly unsettled around the 22nd, as often seems to be the case. The opening days of October will be unseasonably warm leading to 25 Celsius being recorded in a few places. Turns more autumnal thereafter and for the remainder of the month. November willl be high pressure dominated, leading to below average rainfall. Quiet on the most part with temps and sunshine around average, but will turn colder from around the 26th leading to a cold snap to see out the month. December will have a mild and unsettled first half followed by a cold but sunny snap around mid month. Fairly quiet after that.
  20. When it's mild, people on here complain and say that they want cold. And when we do get some cold, the same people complain and say that they want mild. Never happy us Brits, are we?
  21. I don't understand all the sniping either. There seems to be more posts in here sniping at members in the model thread than discussing the actual weather itself. It was the same this time last year too. Gets rather tedious.
  22. Heating has just gone on and it's currently 17.3 Celsius indoors.
