  1. Once we get to late winter (which I consider to be from the 10th of Feb onwards), I enter a transitional stage where I start looking forward to 15+ Celsius days, but at the same time don't want them to happen just yet. I would really like to experience a cold wintry spell before winter is over. At this stage, it isn't looking likely unfortunately. Though in terms of weather forecasting, it's still early days yet.
  2. Frigid WYorksWeather I think our climate on the whole is more benign these days compared to how it used to be. Including little to no snow in winter as well as little to no thunderstorms during the summer. The winter season in particular is very short nowadays. February seems to be increasingly becoming more like a spring month whilst December and January are autumnal months.
  3. 2012. A sunny month with some cool or mild days and chilly nights during the first half, followed by spring warmth along with more chilly nights from around the equinox onwards. The perfect March in my book. The first 3 months of that year were actually decent for seasonal weather, pity that it all went pear shaped from April onwards.
  4. CoventryWeather Yes, I would like that also. Whilst I am happy for cold in early March (as well as warmth in early September), by the time we get to mid March I have completely lost interest.
  5. CoventryWeather Plenty of time yet for spring warmth. If we can have heat during early September, then why not cold during early March?
  6. I don't care about mild/warm records as it happens far too often these days. I would love to see something like the coldest end to February in *insert number here* years, or the codlest start to March.
  7. Not sure if it's me, but it seems as if our climate, which has long been notorious for its unpredictability, is losing that said unpredictability. Obviously there's exceptions in some years, but here are a few examples: - Even during the most mediocre of summers, sudden heat spikes have become commonplace in recent years with thunderstorms being very few and far between if none at all. - February is almost always more of a spring month rather than a winter month, with the best of the wintry weather often arriving during the first half of March. - September is more an extension of summer these days and it is no longer that unusual for the hottest day of the year to occur during that month. However, it is almost always unsettled around the equinox as well as around the end of the month. - November more often than not is dull, mild and sometimes wet with a cold and settled blip during the last few days. - December often continues with the cold blip during the first half before switching to dull and mild. Christmas day in particular is always dull and mild as is New Year's day. - Long wet periods as well as long dry periods also seem to be happening more often.
  8. After being predominently wet over the last 12 months, something like this would be my ideal spring for this year: March - A March version of April 2021. Though a March 2012 redux would also be nice. April - A 2007 or 2011 redux. May - A 2018 or 2020 redux.
  9. September is still a long way off from winter, and anything can happen during that time. Milder than average winters are the norm these days anyway, regardless on how September panned out.
  10. A fairly pleasant day today and it's nice to have some sunshine as well as a little break from the rain. Looks like normal service will be resuming from tomorrow onwards though.
  11. Starting to feel some warmth from the sun now. Still plenty of time yet for some wintry surprises though. It's much like August starts to show a noticeable difference in the sun angle, but can still be the hottest month of the summer.
  12. It's certainly up there as being one of the worst, but I don't think it was as bad as summer 2007. As bad as summer 2012 was, it did have that thunderstorm event at the end of June as well as a hot and sunny spell in late July. Summer 2007 had nothing interesting going for it at all.
  13. Each year, I find myself getting less excited over charts showing the possibility of snow because they hardly ever verify, whereas milder than average charts almost always do. Nowadays I just take it as it comes. The UK climate is certainly a trying one for us weather enthusiasts, particularly during the winter season.
  14. I was just about to comment that. Hopefully, a much better July than last year.
  15. Hello. I have noticed that I don't get the option to ignore topics, and topics which I have ignored are now showing up. Is this just me or is it a glitch that is affecting everyone? Thanks.
  16. raz.org.rain I doubt there will be any risk of drought at any time soon. If a drought is declared, then something is seriously wrong.
  17. Yawn. Warm records used to gain my interest, but it happens so frequently nowadays that it has become boring. We need to start breaking some more cold reccords, though it isn't very easy in this increasingly warming climate.
  18. @Don Hello Don, sorry for the late reply. Yes we did get snow round about that time and it was very cold with a low of -13 on on one of those nights.
  19. What is your favourite season from each year in the 00s? I suppose mine would be as follows: 2000 - Winter 99/00 (lots of cold and frosty nights as well as snow at times, particularly during December) 2001 - Spring (a difficult one, but I went for spring as there were many pleasant days, though April wasn't great) 2002 - Spring (a nondescript year, so just chose the best of a boring bunch) 2003 - Summer (a good year all in all for seasonal weather, but I remember summer the most as the best of it coincided with the school summer hols) 2004 - Autumn (another difficult one, so just went for the first one that came up in my head) 2005 - Summer (whilst not the best, it wasn't the worst either) 2006 - Summer (July in particular was warm/hot and sunny for much of the time) 2007 - Spring (April in particular was a lovely month) 2008 - Autumn (autumn wasn't too bad from mid September onwards) 2009 - Winter 08/09 (a cold start to the year with widespread snow. First week of Feb also)
  20. Worst season for each year of the 00s: 2000 - Autumn (exceptionally wet) 2001 - Autumn (mediocre at best) 2002 - Summer (an uneventful year all in all, so I picked the first season that came into my head) 2003 - Winter 02/03 (tricky to decide, but I will say winter only because December wasn't all that great) 2004 - Summer (not a very good summer that year, particularly the July) 2005 - Spring (a mediocre at best spring) 2006 - Spring (two months of that spring were a complete write off) 2007 - Summer (exceptionally wet and the beginning of a series of poor summers) 2008 - Summer (second year of the series. I can remember August in particular being cool and wet) 2009 - Summer (the series continues, though not as bad as the previous two summers)
  21. It was a fairly pleasant day over here - 12 Celsius and dry with sunny intervals. Though another shot of cold at some point during the next few weeks would be nice, preferably with snow but crisp and sunny would be great also. Despite the lengthening daylight hours, we are at the coldest point of the winter season now, so there is still plenty of time yet.
