Humidity was generally very low in the last spell. Only Saturday did the humidity rise a bit before the storms arrived here (down here anyway).
Just humid here. No storms

Wind and sunshine are significant for me. I'm less bothered about the temperature as long as it's not silly hot or chilly from now until late September, as long as it's sunny. Unusually, I'm quite tolerant of both cold and hot. I'm not a fan of high humidity but seeing as it's rare that it accompanies uncomfortably high temperatures, it's not so bad.
Some people on this forum make it sound like we live in Singapore lol!
wouldn't say its rare. Was still 17c last saturday night here. the daytime maxim was only 20 or so. Not much of a drop.

its simple genetics...peoples who live generally closer to the poles..over thousands of generations have developed a stronger tolerance to cold than those who's origins are from warmer climates. an example when there is a rare outbreak of cold in the Indian sub continent and temps fall below 16c there is huge surge in hypothermic death..here 16c is an average summer day..like wise temps above 35c causes a spike in heat related death here that wouldnt happen in India.
I must have lived in Reykjavik in a former life then

Yes I am baffled by some of the comments by some on this site.Sure some people like cold rather than heat ,have come to the conclusion that they were born with a different thermometer but there seem to be an abnormal majority of netweather members who seem to be like this. For me I cannot understand why you would crave cool or sunless weather when the majority of the year is like this particular here in the pennines where it an eternity from the Meditteranean south.
Well we all perceive temperatures differently. I am warm at 12c. PE teachers can wear shorts at 0c. Some people are still in duffel coats and fleeces in the mid-high 20s. If you have a different explanation for such phenomena, then I'd like to hear it.

If we had average conditions in March and the first half of April, maybe people would be satisfied and not require a summer heatwave in April.
You haven't been here very long have you?

Sure, but we're not talking about temperatures in the 30s or anything. I'd be fine with sunshine and temps in the teens to be honest. Endless gloom is what really hacks people off.
We can agree on something at least

I prefer sunshine. But when you get high pressure any time outside of winter, you get the muck of last week. You have to bear in mind that this is the UK. In the NW, the peak summer average is 19c. London is only 22c. Warmth is always sourced from europe. usually iberia. and its laced with humidity on top. I don't relish the thought of sweating and struggling to sleep any more than you relish grey and wet.
Rain is depressing I agree. I just see it as the lesser of two evils and it really helps.

Above average rainfall and below average temps for days on the trot isn't "average".
Well my area has only recorded 5 below average days all month which would have been more than offset by the temps last week. Manchester is always warmer than where I am unless one of us has our own microclimate that is.

Not sure anyone's looking for heatwaves specifically. Settled, warm, dry weather - certainly, and it's hardly surprising given how atrociously wet this spring has been.
And I'm not swayed by the 'x weather kills people' argument, in either summer or winter, as I think this is a weather forum and as such people are often looking for extreme weather - or at least weather that deviates from the usual tedious UK fare. If that upsets people then as per my previous comments you're on the wrong forum.
Cool weather with rain doesn't excite most people - neither on here nor in real life. You're in a very small minority if that kind of weather floats your boat. Each to their own though.
"warm" is very subjective as is cold. Hence there's plenty of room for misinterpretation.
-
People on here are downtrodden when we don't get oppressive heat in the summer and perishing cold in the winter. Maybe if you could bring yourselves to be satisfied with "average" conditions in the silly seasons, there'd be far less disappointment.

Heat? It was a couple of days of low 20s, hardly what I would class as heat. I'm not a fan of hot weather but I found it just fine. God help you if we get a proper heatwave in Summer. I think you will have to sleep in front of the fridge with the door open or get a few strong beers down you - you'll soon forget how hot it is.
Was speaking broadly lol. The south was just shy of 30. Here is wasn't too bad, though saturday night was very humid. still 17 at 3 am according to my local stations.
My tolerance for warmth though is pathetic. I freely admit that. You're talking to someone whose warm at 12c.

sunshine's welcome to come back anytime. The heat that came with it though can sod off.

There's extremists in both camps I think
Most definitely. The MOD thread during the time of the first failed winter easterly was pure tantrums. Led to a few bans I think. Ramping needs to stop. Both silly seasons included.

And temperatures not higher than Southern European capitals on a dull day
Britain is regularly hotter than Reykjavik at least.

Yeah, shocking - people look for weather that they want. I would never have expected that on here.
Isn't he doing the same thing? Too much mob mentality on here. Go against the crowd and you'll pay for it.

Much improved from yesterday. Rained for a while now the sun is out. But the air is much fresher.

Well the weather in my area last night fooled every weather site I know. They forecasted an overnight low of 12c. Was still 17 at 3 am.

Still feels stuffy tonight. thursday night freshened up pretty nicely after similar conditions.
Edit: still 18 here according to local-ish stations. Sodding kack.

Much better day today. Still sunny and dry but with a much fresher, stronger breeze. Really does make all the difference. Looking sticky tomorrow though

Looks like next week we'll be making our payment for the 2nd hottest April day of all time as we are catapulted right back into the depths of Winter. http://www.meteociel.fr/cartes_obs/gens_display.php?ext=1&x=275&y=105
You'd be hard pushed to call 12c "winter".

I live in a city that has one of the highest air pollution levels in Western Europe, and one of the top 3 in the UK. Dangerous air quality isn't unique to London. And it was 27C today, only 2C cooler than London, and I thought it was absolutely lovely. No complaints from me at all.
And air quality has little to do with heat - on clear, calm, frosty winter mornings, you will often see a brown haze sitting over Leeds.
Some people on here don't half talk rubbish sometimes. We get it - you don't like heat. No need to witter on about it like a broken record. The rest of us have had to put up with months of cool, wet weather so forgive me if I have no sympathy for your plight. In fact, if you hate heat then few countries in the world are better than the UK. By global standards, London's summers are cool and cloudy. Even by European standards they are very lacklustre - yet the way some people on here go on about them you'd think London was the new Miami or something.
Like it or not, that is the normal UK climate. Funny you mention miami though; I have holidayed in florida in the peak of their "summer" (theme parks were worth it) and the level of humidity is excruciating. Any "warmth" we get is usually sourced from Iberia and laced with humidity also. simply serves to rub salt in the wound, nothing more.

I'd go a little higher than that. Liverpool is always cooler, whilst manchester gets warmer. We're usually somewhere in between.

Well I can't speak for London, but imby those conditions are pretty common. We have had several warm marches in recent years too. This march was mainly down to the SSW after all. April can swing either way.
