  1. I wonder though. Was the data output as accurate in 1962 the same as it is today in terms of the charts showing? I would love to think so.
  2. Agreed, People talk about wanting the HP thats due for the nearly next 2 weeks to be over sooner and to let the Atlantic back in. .... And then to have a new shot at some "snowy potential". I, for one, am quite happy that the HP is due to sit around for a while. I think it has a better chance for some very cold weather compared to letting the "westerlies" getting going. Of course it could go the "Bartlet" way. But hey, I prefer to gamble on this one.
  3. The 12z GFS run does not let the atlantic get aboard at all and builds the mid Atlantic high nicely in FI. I know its FI but it may well be the start of a trend. Fingers crossed
  4. Great to see my two favourite (Including Old MetMan) posters having a trip down memory lane. My recollection of Bracknell was paying monthly subscriptions for the daily weather charts in the years 1977/1978. That was before the days of the internet and forums. It was a very lonely following of meteorology but at least the winter weather delivered then LOL. I bet I was the only person in the Republic of Ireland with such a subscription at that time Keep up the great work
  5. Yes, strange that. I always thought the showers would develop right on the coast and be more widespread here and less so as they move inland. Any ideas why this is not the case for this event?
  6. This has a better feel to it than the last cold spell and good lamp post watching ahead I think. I have often said that a gale force easterly is what potentially can deliver snow and not rain/sleet to the east coast. The dew points are extremely low and the showers are beginning to pep up pretty quickly now off the east coast. A long night ahead but quite hopeful on this one
  7. See some snow showing on the Net Weather radar down the center of the North, Surprised no one has mentioned seeing some flakes
  8. MS, In West Dublin we awoke to about a cm of snow but the main roads were clear. We had a very heavy wet snow shower around 11.30am which was nice. It has mostly thawed now. A lot better than nothing but unfortunately not as good as you guys up north.
  9. It never snows in Cork I think this time January Snowstorm will be pleased. Well at the moment the Extra Radar shows sleet approaching Cork but hopefully it will turn to snow
  10. Its one of those situations that is difficult to call. I always find that when an easterly is light in strength snow is marginal on the coastal fringes like Dublin. A good strong easterly blast with origins from a cold European mainland delivers snow to the east coast. That is what is making me very cautious on making a prediction. On the other side, with pressure quite low, convection is always a better probability. I would give it a 40/60 chance.
  11. Had to look up what an anaprop is. "when radar microwaves are refraction by things like inversions down to the ground, and are then reflected back to the dish - as far as the radar is concerned, something is there, and so it displays it as a return, but it is not precip" Yep, it must be one of them
  12. Very Strange... it has moved further out into the Irish sea. It must be a mirage
  13. Gerry on 9pm news/weather is saying rain turning to snow as the day goes on in Ulster and over the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. Therefor not at lower levels in Leinster by the sounds of that.... at least not tomorrow. He seemed more hopeful for Monday.
  14. my patience has paid off. complete turnaround this morning on meteireann. they were right in being cautious .looks like a protracted cold spell with snow likely in the north and east.
  15. Evelyn Cusack had her snow hat on the 11.55 weather forecast. Risk of rain on Friday turning to snow in the north and north east leinster Turning very cold over the weekend and very cold for next week with winds turning easterly
  16. I suppose they have said all along that they were very uncertain, so that covers them if they want to change the forecast every 12 hours
  17. They are all over the place at the moment. "Sunday: A cold and frosty start for many on Sunday morning, but clearing through the morning. Increasing wind and cloud will bring heavy rain into Munster by early afternoon and to most places by early Sunday night. Some very heavy falls in places ( 25mm possible) and some falls of sleet and snow are likely also, especially on higher ground." 25mm of rain would be equivalent to 10" of snow. Yikes!!
  18. Heres hoping Stormforce. The Ensembles for Dublin do give hope especially from 21st .
  19. Wish it were not so.... unless Met Eireann say it will snow I dont get my hopes up
  20. This is going to be marginal but you are inland and the 200m will help. This looks like continuing for next week as well so i think you are in with a shout. My confidence is nearly always with Met Eireann, They are always careful and dont predict too far a head, which in this set up is a very good thing.
  21. 36 hours of continuous snow and 6 feet snow drifts , it was yummie.
  22. Congrats on your 3k posts. Anyone In Dublin or the East coast remember this. Jan 9th 1982. The biggest snow event ever ! http://www.wetterzen...00119820109.gif Now have a look at UKMO today: T 144 Quite similar I think
  23. Very similar to the most major snow event in my lifetime in Dublin 9th Jan 1982. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/archive/ra/1982/Rrea00119820109.gif
