I've never had issues with a whole loaf of frozen bread, slight prize with a knife and a slice comes off easy enough.
My family freeze milk too, even in the summer I don't like the taste of defrosted milk for some reason?! Does anyone else notice a difference
Funny how an easterly brings on a food discussion lol

Just for the memories (even though I wasn't born) here's a few images I've found online from the snow in 87' all taken in Southend

Bugger, mum asked for the forecast for today to stick a whole load of washing out, checked the radar and it looked clearish, forecast showed zero chance of rain all day on nw, went to check the radar again and that hail band looks to have intensified and will clip me here but only just! Sods law better get the stuff back in in a mo, now that she's at work

Just in time for the new thread then! A post to go with lassie upcoming spring!

Nice to see all these reports, I hope nobody gets graupeled in

The temperature is still dropping like a ton of bricks, down to 2.5c now (this is the lowest reading in my local area) Other stations show similar drops, that's almost a 2c drop in 40 minutes!?!
Dew points have been good enough most of the day going by radar overlay for snow but the temp was a tad high, we're getting into a better range now though.
Surprised how fast the temperature is dropping, the colder uppers must be crawling over our region now, and with the ppn helping faster mixing to the surface?

It's as if someone has stuck a blanket over the sky here, went from sunny and dry with a few clouds to damp grey and murky within just 10 minutes! temp has has plummeted too within half an hour, was 4.6c now down to 3.4c
Make that 3.3c!

Pouring down with hail here

Agreed about not wanting the purples to arrive to our region, we'll all know what will happen!

Windy out though no danger of it bending 12 inch RSJ's
You never know with how the models are interpreting this SSW at the minute! Prey that wobbly cow you posted earlier doesn't slip on the ice tomorrow morning I can hear girders bending and cattle groaning already

May have been related to the problem SS mentions below, hopefully working again now?
Hopefully should be fixed?
May be something on your side I think, seems to be ok here - in Chrome, when you're on the page, if you can press ctrl+shift+i, then choose the network tab, then type in the location/postcode you're wanting choose, does anything come up as red inside the network bit?
Thanks, nothing showing in red
Does seem to be an issue my side, usually the dropdown would appear with the searched postcode a few seconds after I've finished typing, I can only get it to do this now if I left click in the search. I'll keep tinkering!

This may just be me but I'm not sure
I can't input/change any postcodes or locations on the main site under the weather forecasts or risk pages, it was working last night..
Happens in both Chrome and Edge, I've cleared cache and history but still nothing

Best here locally in south Essex I think judging by the radar really locally would be Southend, most of the blobs have just managed to clip the town.
New blob going over now to get more coastal fringes, I might just see something out of this one

I'm still here too, literally every blob is skirting 5 miles to the south of me at the moment, it's so frustrating

Lamppost just gone off I'm not happy, in fact I'm quite sad
Get the ladder out and go stick a new bulb in it
Or do the council turn them off at midnight there too?

They are not using met office anymore, so follow whatever model meteo group use, or whatever there forecasters say. Sorry if company is wrong can't remember exactly who they are.
Last I heard the BBC are still using the MO for their forecasts and will be until at least March as meteogroup still aren't ready to take over, delays, much like our forecasts of easterlies

Nice to see the convective showers way out east in the north sea now showing on radar as turning sleety, I know it's not from observation but just model data, but still, bodes well for the next few days as the land's much colder than the sea

Pretty much all of Europe and parts of the Middle East get into the action next week. Best we can hope for is a canvey island streamer...........??
That'll do me, it's only a 5 minute drive onto the island lol, as long as it doesn't snow too much, or I'll never get off

Winter has been shocking in a lot of places. Bar the spell in early December it has been shocking here for sure.
Going 4-5 years without lying snow for more than a few hrs in January should be pretty much unheard of. However it has become the new norm. Absoloutely dire.
Welcome to the new and Improved UK

What will the night time minimum temps will be like next week. BBC only showing -2 on the app
I'd say -4/-5c widely, -6/-7c in rural spots, wouldn't discount a -10c in a rural spot with snow cover
As long as we get clear nights anyway
