  1. At last some dry cold weather.
just took the dog for a walk up to rivington pike. Lovely views of west Lancashire down to the coast of Southport & Blackpool in the distance.  In the East of the region, views of Oldham, down into Tameside and Manchester City centre.
Beautiful winters day. Only thing missing is about 30cm of snow

    Yes Si -

Knockers chart, i suspect the high in the Atlantic will be shoved towards the UK.

    Then topple.
The MetO seem bullish on colder weather to approach us. So some hope to be upbeat.
As I’ve stated before, Ignore the MetO at your peril.
I’ve seen The ECM & the GFS promise the goods only for the MetO to have none of it. And they’ve been correct..

anyway, onto the GFS 18z and let’s see how many low pressure systems it can spew out across the Atlantic. Lol

Amazing how fast the year goes these days. Summer has just flown by - it's felt like a really short summer this year - it's only really been summer from end of June until end of August this year. Whereas Summer 2018 really started in early May.

Doesn't feel that long ago since last October.

    Poor summer this year.
    Was warmer in February lol

My parents always said that the snowstorm in 1940 possibly January but not sure was heavier here than anything in either 47 or 63.

a hell of a statement to make given the mythical like status those 2 have reached but aparantly the level snow was over 3 feet deep.

big question is would it have warranted a Met O amber warning or being up here, would a yellow have been enough

People were more tougher back in the day. 3 feet of level snow is some feat.

Kids get sent home from school now for 2cm

  5. Found some images of the winter of 1940

photos took on the main route from Horwich to Bolton ( top of Chorley old road) near scout road. About 5 mins drive from my house. About 900 feet above sea level

    Edit

first photo is on the road from Bolton to westhoughton.
