    Many back in the day… Still the best set up for many in the North West, Atlantic front coming in against cold air. 

    one I remember, very well was about 87 or 88. Started snowing about 6 pm, I left the pub about 10pm and there was about 6 inches of snow, and the flakes were coming down the size of old pound notes.  
    woke up next morning to patchy snow cover, the snow had turned to heavy rain during the night. 
    Remember thinking to myself, all that magical snow gone !

    North Westerlies don’t really float my boat for this area. Needs more of a westerly influence for Greater Manchester. 
    I remember only last winter, leaving Horwich and it was green. By the time I got to the Irlam area it was white.   Seemed weird looking at winter hill all green and irlam and the Birchwood area of Warrington all white.

I was there to get the criminals but that apparently became not the right thing to do. I hear that's still the case now 10 years after I left. I wouldn't want to be a young recruit these days the criminals are no longer scared.
