I remember some Snow events in the early 90’s which consisted of basically high pressure building over the uk, a week of cold and frost, then weather systems bumping into the cold air depositing an inch or 2 of wet snow enough to mess about in at least, albeit gone by the next day, and this was on the coast, anyone else remember such set ups?

Many back in the day… Still the best set up for many in the North West, Atlantic front coming in against cold air.

one I remember, very well was about 87 or 88. Started snowing about 6 pm, I left the pub about 10pm and there was about 6 inches of snow, and the flakes were coming down the size of old pound notes.
woke up next morning to patchy snow cover, the snow had turned to heavy rain during the night.
Remember thinking to myself, all that magical snow gone !

SK4 area I think could see 15cms plus on Fri 7th, perfect setup for the area

North Westerlies don’t really float my boat for this area. Needs more of a westerly influence for Greater Manchester.
I remember only last winter, leaving Horwich and it was green. By the time I got to the Irlam area it was white.   Seemed weird looking at winter hill all green and irlam and the Birchwood area of Warrington all white.

That's brilliant . I retired 10 years ago after being with GMP for nearly 35 years. It changed a lot in the time I was there including the uniform and what I had to carry. Went from pro active policing which was rewarding to endless form filling, fringe issues, and excessive red tape holding us back from doing our job properly towards the end of my tenure. I was there to get the criminals but that apparently became not the right thing to do. I hear that's still the case now 10 years after I left. I wouldn't want to be a young recruit these days the criminals are no longer scared.

    You have my upmost respect.
I understand what you are saying.
back in the day, the local Bobby would give you a clip around the ear and a kick up the weeble.. then he took you home to your parents.

we had respect back in the day for the local Bobby.
