Ahhh , it missed - still a better run though

Surly this is better for everyone in keeping us locked in colder air, yes no battle ground snow as yet, but showers and troughs packing in from the north is better? as the further north the low is the risk of more milder air in the south.

keep up the good work @Ali1977 love your ramps of enthusiasm in willing this cold spell in pal👌

Since I was 5 years old in 2010.how long was the chase before the cold spell started?

It started in fl beyond D10 then counted down, Chopped and changed a little run by run similar to this current potential cold spell but always came back to a lot of Boom charts. Truly amazing model watching that year as for once something in fl similar to this counted down and actually came off.

Going by the charts it seems the low pressure is further south ? Temperatures still falling here which is weird, was meant to warm up. Maybe an interesting night to come ?

I definitely think the low is further south. The centre of the low seems to be in the channel, I’m sure ECM showed it coming trough over southern Britain. I could be wrong however?

Mate your right in epicentre 25-40cm for you 🕸️🥶

I know pal, knew it would be, meant to fly out of LBA tomorrow morning that’s not looking great. Booked travel lodge over the road for tonight so at least I’m there and heading over before the main snow arrives. Been part of this group help me to make the decision of booking earlier this week before all room went and what a great decision that’s been 👌😂

Will never forget that day.. had a superb dumping of snow in a very strong easterly wind.. HP over Scandinavia and a low bumping into it led to a stalling front that pivoted and was totally epic,, i was living in Leeds at the time and drove up the M62 onto Pennines ,,was like Siberia up there and there drifts were really deep.

We had 10 - 15ft snow drifts from every gateway and break in the walls from the fields onto the roads. We had farmers with mini diggers clearing it all out, council nowhere to be seen. Family up from down south couldn’t go home for two days. Was definitely the worst I have seen.

  6. So many uncertainties over the low Thursday into Friday earlier overnight into this morning some of the models had some of the biggest precipitation and overall snow totals up near the boarder of England and Scotland and down the spine into Yorkshire, Now this evening we have it into the midlands. We are still in the game and it could end up right on top of us. Hoping and praying it’s not the case this time but experience tells me that when I want it to happen it never does but I’ve just got a feeling we will see something in the middle and hit the Jackpot so to speak.

I guess time will tell. But in my opinion this won’t amount to much. But I would be happy to be proved wrong. I have been wrong in the past lol.

There have been some models shifting the low slightly south if this happens we will all be in the game for longer. If the shift is slightly north then southern and eastern areas might not do as well. However I feel it’s going to be a disruptive event for most potentially very disruptive if the low firms up more amplified to give more convection along with a slight shift south. I’m concerned however as this could cancel my flight if this happens so even as a coldie and snow lover for once I’m hoping the worst doesn’t happen. Only thing is I’ve got a feeling it will especially for my location and the Airport..

Flying out of LBA Thursday morning. What time do you recon any snow will be falling. We need to be there about 6.30am only a few miles to drive. Just my luck to be away when there’s chance of a decent day of snow.

I’m flying out Friday morning early hours so I’ve booked the travel lodge over the road and going to go up before the worst is due to start around 12:00pm You should be absolutely fine Thursday am 👌

Looking at your height staying next door to the hotel is a good choice. I suspect it is difficult to get out of where you live when it has snowed. My parents fly out of manchester Saturday so hope they get there safely.

Yes very hard when it snow pal, We rely on the farmers who do an amazing job. I booked and there was only two rooms left so maybe a lot of other people are having similar thoughts, best to be safe than sorry 👍

And fingers crossed for everyone who is travelling anywhere this coming week or so for safe journeys 👌

  10. Very interesting few days for mostly the west of our region but not exclusively.

Tomorrow snow is expected on the leading edge of the front moving across west to east accumulations mainly on higher ground and perhaps some wet snow at lower levels, then a short mild period or should I say slightly milder moving in on the back edge although I will add the mild section is getting narrower on each run so something to keep an eye on. Then we enter the colder air again bringing snow showers Thursday night into Friday and throughout the day heaviest expected to the west of our region but some steamer or heavier bursts could make it a lot further east. So lots to like over the next 48 hours. I will add there could be some surprises with the warm Atlantic and Irish Sea when it comes to showers and streamers setting up along with evaporated cooling that could bring the snow level down, something to keep an eye on. then we look at later on in the month where some models are throwing out some eye candy. At over 10days out mind

Don't know how to confirm it, only anecdotally (like here  ), but yep, Penistone had a few snow showers around lunch/ early afternoon.

It was just starting as we arrived for our Christmas Dinner at Grandma's

Hope you find can find out pal and keep me informed. Was it designated a particular area in Sheffield like the city centre? By this I mean Leeds/Bradford airport was on the bet but Leeds and Bradford in general wasn’t on the app I used. Or was it just anywhere in Sheffield?

edit: maybe clear that up with the bookies as if they meant a spastic area like the city centre then perhaps that is the reason for not paying out.

Does anyone know how I can officially confirm that it snowed in Sheffield on 25th December?

Having an argument with a bookmaker!

And struggling to find historical records anywhere.  Thanks.

I wasn’t aware it had snowed in Sheffield, it snowed in my location about 10mins past 12midnight making it the 26th and the front bringing the snow was travelling south? Although they officially paid out for Leeds Bradford airport which is slightly south east from me. Unless it was due to snow flurries earlier in the day?
