  1. Plenty of snow around next Tuesday (away from the far south of Wales) this gives either an indication that it's coming from the north and the Brecon Beacons and other mountains are blocking/reducing the amount of snow from reaching the far south as often happens in northerly airflow or it could be because the sea temperatures are still around 8-9C making any snow turn back to rain/sleet near the coast
  2. GFS 12z brings rain and milder air back by Friday across the SW then by the early hours of Saturday the centre of the low is just off south Pembrokeshire, behind it a somewhat cooler airflow with some further showers, wintry in places, at this stage high pressure builds again by Sunday though to give a drier day for many.
  3. GFS Para has a big difference in 850mb temperatures across the entire country between the 6z and 12z in FI (22nd Jan)!!
  4. GFS 18z disappointing to say the least, apart from some brief colder air it seems to be dominated by mild air in southern, western and especially south western areas next week with temperatures once again up to 12C Sunday afternoon like last weekend here on the south coast of Wales. Problem is all this frequent relatively mild air is keeping the sea temperatures up which may actually hinder our snow chances
  5. GFS 12z has some tightly packed isobars in western & southwestern UK & Ireland by the end of next week, SW gales initially but the potential for severe W or NW gales as the centre of a low moves southeastwards from Ireland across into Wales then over to the SE coast of England taking the strong winds with it. A lot different to the past 2-3 weeks that's for sure!
  6. Ah now that's a tad gutting the GFS Para 12z has lost the channel low next Wed and replaced it with one over NE Scotland and as a result, the snowline has moved further inland so just the plain old rain (for now) for many coastal areas and central & eastern areas (away from western & northern Scotland) on the latest GFS Para which is a big difference to 6z
  7. Oh wow 7 foot! I know Laura street as I have a friend living close by in Princess st. I saw some photos of the drifts last March in the Rhondda and they were up over the cars, but it wasn't as bad as we were expecting down here, in fact we had more lying snow in Dec 2010. Anyway GFS 12z still doesn't have that low running through the English Channel like the GFS Para 6z (high pressure looks more in charge at that time although a band of rain would quickly push through from NW to SE) so it'll be interesting to see if that channel low still shows on the 12z.
  8. Looks decent for many but I'm in Porthcawl and it seems as though the Swansea Bay/ Vale of Glamorgan snow shield is still going strong mate, hope you're away from there if you like snow
  9. Sometimes coasts exposed to the wind in a PM airmass can 'hit the jackpot' too but in a different way by getting thunder & lightning which can keep going on and off for hours bringing heavy rain, sleet and often hail, that's happened quite a few times when I go to Pembrokeshire especially between Nov-Jan. It's amazing to watch at night
  10. GFS 6z continues with the settled weather in the south especially until around the middle of next week, after that low pressure albeit slack moves in bringing some wet weather which then moves away by next weekend to allow a ridge of high pressure again but at the same time, the jet stream is strengthening and shortly after, a deeper low arrives. So it looks like we could be seeing the last of the prolonged fine spells of weather for a while. The temperature swings between quite cold and fairly mild look to continue throughout though
  11. Ooh we'd be right on the edge of that area of snow here on the coast of southern Wales shame it's in FI though
  12. A very interesting chart with a low crossing NW France, this brings a risk of snow; some very heavy falls in the Irish Sea moving towards west Wales......but unfortunately it's all in FI
  13. A somewhat repeat performance showing on the GFS 6z for this weekend with a wedge of milder 850s bringing highs up to 11-12C by Sunday afternoon quite widely in the south & west
  14. Personally, I actually think the GFS 0z is very good for January with frequent high pressure bringing plenty of dry weather, certainly much better than the past several weeks when it was low after low bringing gales and floods here in South Wales ??
  15. Ooh now that was a near miss weather-wise for us in SW UK, look at those dark blues across central & especially eastern UK next Wed, they miss us and then it actually looks like turning somewhat milder (or less cold) by next Fri for a time
  16. Well after a widespread frost this morning under clear skies last night and a strong high pressure not moving much, I wasn't expecting to see 11-12C daytime highs here on the south coast of Wales for a while but on Sunday & Monday that's what could happen, turning wetter and breezier too though by then for all with gales possible towards the north
  17. New year, new weather for us in South Wales cold sunny days and cold frosty but starry nights means the camera gets used again! Just 1C in Porthcawl when I took these photos recently....
  18. Lack of rain? We've been flooded 3 times in 3 months! We need a long dry period as the ground is saturated but a bit more sunshine would be nice to see
  19. Looks very high pressure dominated into January on the GFS12z which I don't mind at all after weeks of rain and gales in South Wales.
  20. I think BBC can still access Met Office data though, I know it sounds strange but on our S4C (the Welsh language channel), their weather forecast says "in association with the Met Office" even though it's a part of the BBC
  21. Hey thats me well at least, that's what I was called in the comp school by many of the other kids as they thought I looked exactly like him.... honestly , anyway, I'm so glad you've found my book useful and to be honest it's nice to see they're still out there as unfortunately this edition was discontinued years ago! I've got a new book being launched next Spring though, it's called "Noddy looks forward to another lovely Summer at the seaside"
  22. That looks so lovely! If this rain doesn't let up soon in south Wales I may just book a week in Benidorm in January I think lol
