Rain has turned to sleet just inland from Herne Bay. Nowt to shout about compared to others on here but it's something I guess!

Is pouring down with rain. This event has been absolutely terrible for us. Ah well. Time for me to log off!
Same here. Perhaps we'll wake up to a surprise covering.

Se winds have kicked in down here, which is what I was waiting for, now let's see if we can bring in some decent DPs.
The showers in the channel seem to have some intensity still so perhaps still a chance for those of us in the east!

Not looking good at all, shame that it takes so much to get some snow on the ground here
Yep, we always seem to need a north easterly to get lucky here and for Thanet

There must be half a dozen of us from the bay on here and we're all going to be disappointed by the looks of this.

Well it looks like us in Thanet are going to be a miss. Had very icy rain with occasional tinsy winsy snowflakes. You had to look very hard though. I was out walking the dog and got caught in it all. Getting drenched instead of snowed on.
Looks to me on radar like its going to be too far west for our little spot near the coast.
Of course in anyone wants to correct me, then feel free
Spot on I'm afraid. East Kent and Essex were forecast to miss out on the good stuff

More sleet in canterbury. Think I’m gonna wave the white flag soon.
Unless the wind is from the East/North East us East Kent folk are often not invited to the party. Wasn't like that back in the 80s

Bordering on snow here at times due to intensity. My worry here in East Kent is that once the system has pivoted tonight and moves back south east dragging down temps and DP there won't be much precipitation around by then. Anyone know whether wind direction changes to north east tomorrow/Tuesday?

elevation would be to north over the hill to whitstable ,but centrally its about the middlist of towns for kent
Yes, going by previous years snowfall, Tyler Hill often has snow but the city and where I am towards Herne Bay is more sleety hence my IMBY post. Moderate sleet has just reached here

In Canterbury it is 3C temperature rose quite rapidly as sleet/snow approached is now probably 75% snow 25% rain atm , not sticking except on cold exposed roofs
Out of interest is there any elevation where you are (outskirts of C'bury) or are you central?

Greetings from a foggy Herne. After last year's complete no-show anything has to be an improvement. WRT later today and overnight even if it does stay wet around the coasts rather than white, at least this cold spell is bringing down SSTs which can only be a good thing.
-
With fewer sunny spells and lower dew points today, snowmelt has been less than yesterday with around 6-7cms remaining on most areas. Shame it won't be around next week when the children are off school.
Fingers crossed for another bout of wintry weather for later this month.

I had the same just because I said "Whiteout", I mean who gives a toss what I call it? I'll call it a blanket of the white stuff if I want
I'd have used whiteout for your video. Jealousy that's all it is

I'm at the hospital. Still light here. Send it this way!

Text from wife (I'm in Canterbury) saying that it is pepping up at home in Herne Bay. I've been using the 'p' word a lot this week so bit of a mickey take from a non-weather enthusiast. They just don't get it, do they!

Just got off a zoom call with colleague who lives in Faversham. Very heavy in the last 30mins.

Morning fine peeps
Temp -0.3c
So only just below Zero.
I can tell you we just had a small flurry so that equates to 4 days of falling snow plus 4 days of lying snow with possibilities today.
It's no mother of all cold and snowy spell but frankly after the last 3 years of nowt it will do fine
Many thanks Snow gods..
4 days - I just said the exact thing to the wife when we woke up. Good for Thanet especially

Yes, I recall seeing blue sky then some towering cumulus in the distance, with the horizon blotted out as the snow moved in. Don't think we will see the like of it again I'm afraid.
Yes I remember seeing the cloud banks preceding the 86 and 91 snowfalls certain that the snow was headed our way.

I agree with some of this. However, it is perfectly possible to get heavy, settling snow in February. The problem this time is that for the most part, the snow has not been heavy or continuous enough. I also think that the wind isn't really strong enough to mix up the lower levels to prevent heating.
But yes, more things have to go right in February to the conditions just right.
Agreed. Whilst some in our region have reported heavy snow showers and some of these especially in East Anglia may well be correct, I can't recall much in the yellow and orange intensity category on the NW radar indicating this to be the case. In the 80s heavy snow was when you could look up into the sky and see it full of large snowflakes for a long period of time. We have 10cms here and I've not witnessed that once.

By the way, I'm sure this has been answered countless times, but what IS the strong radar signal just off Thanet's east coast which shows intense activity but sits there unmoving for hours at a time?
Yes someone commented on that earlier which I replied to. Suspected anaprop (worth a Google if interested)

We’ve done well this evening. Canterbury was empty to and we are now fully white everywhere. Radar looking excellent, seems to be just building constantly in the North Sea, not a whiteout, but moderate snow!
Even better in the knowledge that it will be sticking around for the rest of the week
