A half decent day today warm sunny spells but clouding up in the last hour or so though. Friday looking a very wet day currently. Next week is an interesting one - London & SE England probably well into heatwave territory here in the NW warm (at times v warm) & humid mid 20’s but nothing extreme this far north as yet maybe shades of August 2020 that saw a hot SE heatwave with very warm & humid weather elsewhere.

Heavy - Torrential rain luckily it looks like we’ll miss the strongest winds from Storm Antoni. What with very cool temperatures even compared to that of late shades of November in mid summer really - I feel sorry for those who have been running outdoor events this past month they haven’t had much luck at all. Thankfully looking like a turn around by midweek perhaps even turning briefly hot we shall see. Anything is better than today’s offering! ️

A nice enough day after a heavy shower early doors, even got to mow the lawn in a bit of 20c sunshine not bad considering this past week or so with some more unsettled weather to come as we head into August. The lack of outdoor weather the last week or so has been depressing but today has made up a little for it.

Whilst wet notable is how persistently cool it is - you really do have to go back to the infamous summer 2012 to see day after day of below average midsummer daytime temperatures of 15-18c that wouldn't be out of place in early October. Putting recent summer extremes aside we should really be closer to 20/21c in NW England at this time of year quite striking really when you look at how widespread and intense the heat is across Europe. Pattern matchers might have taken interest also in how 2009 was a front loaded summer and we know the kind of winter that followed, Winter 2012/13 was a cold one too all just for fun at this stage though.

Really poor for July but would have to be a sustained wet & cool spell to rival 2012 or 2007 in terms poorness. Will be interesting to see if things pick up mid month and into August, still plenty of time for pleasant early-mid 20c’s summer weather luckily though even if we don’t tap into anymore 30c+ heat.

After a flaming June pretty cool into the majority of next week, entering July below average and with temperatures more like late September/ early October than going towards mid summer 15-17c is a poor midsummers day for sure as far as temperatures go. Modern July average for the south of the region is probably closer to 20-21c and the north of the region 18-20c.
