Yeah think we’ve been spoilt in past Springs this past decade with warm settled weather or cold early Springs that suddenly warm up as soon as they hit mid-late April. That being said a complete washout day of 8c & heavy rain ️ is cold and it could easily be a typical February day in the NW of England with the April average being closer to 12c. Milder & more settled weather for a time hopefully next week though fingers crossed as the now torrential rain keeps falling here ️

A rainy, cool Friday here in S Cheshire. It’s been a cool Spring so far (well at least it’s felt like one with any hints at warmer more springlike weather swept away or watered down) coolest since 2021 perhaps? May was particularly dire that year from memory had days that felt like October here’s hoping not for a repeat especially with 3 May Bank Holiday weekends to enjoy this year.

Yeah a sunshine & very heavy April showers kind of day. It would be great if we can get a thundery May/ June like late Spring/ early Summer 2020 that was fantastic for thunderstorms ⛈ locally. Think another warm, dry summer looks likely looking at the long range forecasts - hopefully more 2018 than 2022 last year’s 38c was just too hot late July & then another 30c+ spell in early August.

Another lovely Spring day S Cheshire way today. Think it’ll be a case of making the most of tomorrow’s Easter Sunday weather before things turn cooler & more unsettled next week - Wednesday looks a bit of an unseasonably cool & wet one currently. Turning milder & drier once more into Late April though hopefully.

A showery morning here in S Cheshire. Whilst this early Spring hasn’t been as cold as 2018/ 2013 the early March snow & a few cold nights have made it feel not exactly Springlike. April tends to be a very mixed month with some very Springlike days late teens pushing 20c followed by cooler showery days. May is one of my favourite months not too cold, not too hot just pleasant days with the gardens, parks & countryside bursting into life before the height of summer. Happy weekend all

Yeah locally the Lockdown Winter 2020/21 was snowier here than this past winter, lots of very marginal but heavy falls including the post Storm Christophe dumping of 8cm in just a few hrs but Winter 22/23 was at least seasonal for parts of the season with some snow in the core of winter unlike Winter 21/22 that after a very early November snowfall disintergrated into often mild nothingness. Sore spot of Winter 22/23 for me will be the lack of snow during the December freeze that could have so easily made that festive frosty spell into something magic and memorable especially with it being so close to Christmas and happening in the shortest days of the year that would have guaranteed even modest snow cover for a few days at least.

A slippy start with ice & overnight hail on the ground this morning replaced by steady cold rain this afternoon thoroughly miserable. It’s been a 6/10 kind of winter a very cold festive frosty spell in early-mid December that got down to -9c locally but was hugely disappointing in terms of a complete lack of snow, a covering of snow arrived in the mid January cold snap but was followed by a bore fest of a February late winter rescued only by the most recent cold & snowy spell that gave a watered down version of what could have been if it had arrived a few weeks earlier. Notable has been a lack of stormy weather so often characteristic of many a NW Winter in recent years. I’m ready for Spring proper now though there’s no point in longer days if they are as dreary as today has been

As others have mentioned Mon night into Tues definitely looking interesting. The MO probably being conservative on snow accumulation at this stage though as even their text forecast mentions snow showers for all. Potent unstable cold & convective NW’ly’s will give snow cover right down to sea level in NW England if showers are heavy enough & merge together like they often do in a Cheshire Gap flow so I certainly wouldn’t rule out a 1-4cm covering to lower levels if things get going as they are forecast to do so. What are your early thoughts for Mon night into Tuesday @Kasim Awan @Chris.R ? Further out is also the potential for a snow-rain event Thursday early hours too so lots to watch this week.

Yeah although wouldn't mind several weeks of 25c-30c and blue skies like Summer 2018 compared to the extremes of last year. Summer 2020 - in particular June 2020 & a big nightime severe thunderstorm that broke a mini heatwave in the early August of that Covid Summer were superb locally and will take some beating. Back to the here and now cold sleety rain falling here but looking good for what will more than likely be Winter's last hurrah next week past late March my interest in cold weather fades as I begin trying to chase the first 20c of the year to sit in a beer garden and enjoy the lengthening days.
-
Interesting to note - cold March’s tend also to be followed in recent times by warmer & drier than average Summer’s - 2018, 2013, 2006 those kind of summer’s that get progressively hotter & hotter with a week to two week spells of hot sunny weather with temperatures pushing 30- 32c vs the shorter but more extreme spell of 40c heat last year. June 2018 was a cracker for NW England from memory in that hot summer of 2018, after a v warm dry June the proper heat returned then in mid-late July the ground was baked solid. Will be interesting to see what plays out but the potential for hot summer weather is definitely there.

Was thinking that too looking at the charts for Mon night into Tues the post Storm Christophe snow in Jan 2021 was a superb evaporative cooling event locally - we had about 6-7cm of heavy wet snow in the space of a few hrs so a repeat would be amazing especially this late in the season & with the added bonus of Cheshire Gap showers following on behind? MO not having any of it for now though just a mention of ‘wintry showers’ on Tues.

Loving the pics of snow on higher ground such as the Peak District so thought I would add in my own slightly less substantial contribution! Settling March snow is hard to get in lowland S Cheshire so it was good to see the 2-3cm wet covering we had this morning but the event could have and would have been so much better in different circumstances & if it had occurred in Mid Dec - Early Feb (peak Winter for low elevations) tomorrow night looks a wintry mess heavy sleet/ wet snow to rain at best here despite higher ground seeing a transitory top up of snow before maybe some more transitory wintry interest for all into next week Next Tues looking a bit Cheshire Gappy
