    Look at those uppers on the GFS... shift it 300 miles east and we would see the -12c isotherm knocking on the door of Scotland...

    Good lord, P8 is something else - 'stonker' is an understatement. It almost has the -12/-13c isotherm over the whole country at one point.. Here's a friendly GIF: And here's all of the ensembles combined into one graph - notice how most of the 850s hover around -5c as we head into the end of December and into the start of January: Plenty of positives going forward.

    And to make things even better... after the second northerly, the Atlantic blocking is still there, and looks to be lining up a THIRD northerly. You couldn't make this up.

    Well, would you look at that! The PV is completely shattered. Cold upper-air temps too, which would be conducive for snow: Certainly wouldn't be a bad start to 2021!

    12z GFS has a small low @324 travelling southwards that would produce snow on its NW flank

    GEM 00z vs 12z Much better run this. There's not much ridging from the continent on the 12z, which helped inject the colder air. The -6c isother gets into southern England as well.

    Just went through a few of the GFS ensembles. P10 is the best I have found so far.

    Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you the NASA model. This shows frequent snow showers coming from the North Sea on Christmas Day, along with decent, cold uppers. Oh, if it verified!

    Some Christmas Day snow on this run for some of England and Wales. Uppers are just about cold enough too. Muy bien!

    Looks like the GFS control is out of control.. That Atlantic ridge just stalls there which gives the UK a northerly, and another reload after! It’s a very good run. We drag in the -8c uppers too. Right, off to bed. Great posts guys - this was an enjoyable evening!

    What model(s) are you looking at? I think there’s a decent chance for some snow on lower ground on Christmas Day if the ECM or GFS verify.
