  1. This one always sticks out fresh in my mind for how annoying it must of been if I had been alive during that period. I'd have to dig out my copy of the Kent Weather Book to be certain but Canterbury was completely flooded with rain galore whilst Maidstone nearby had complete blizzards. Mild sector of the low would have been bang on over my head! Monthly Weather Report shows 28 mm at Canterbury & 47 mm at Folkestone on the 26th. I see it also talks about some spots near sea level having no snow lying at all.
  2. Noisy stack this morning but not too shabby, all frames untracked. 126 seconds (42 x iso 12800 f/4.8 3 second exposures at 195 mm)
  3. Just been knocking about outside, cloud moved in a lot quicker than forecast I thought. It's definitely got a tad brighter on the camera but still can't see it from my eye. I have a few shots to muck about with stack but here's one from the back of the cam just before cloud blocked it. Few meteors knocking about too!
  4. I have a feeling the shots I've got will sadly be the last ones I'll get of the comet but not a bad target I suppose. Run through of the frames used to stack below. DSC_0010.mp4
  5. I got it. My lack of good sleep left me enough time to nab some shots of it. 58 x ISO 800 10 second exposures at f/4 at 70 mm for the stacked shot below: And a shot of me finally finding it at ISO 3200 at 135 mm, f4.2 and 10 seconds.
  6. I'll have to keep an eye out for a clear morning but the outlook is looking dire so far so it'll be close. I used Sequator and 20 ish shots at 70 mm to produce this shot of Neowise last year so I'm forever hoping for another shot. 300 mm will definitely be tricky though. Monday looking better but won't raise any hopes
  7. One of the most bizarre things I've seen in regards to a UFO if I'll be honest in the UK. Seems mad that a motorway stopped for 4 hours for a white sphere that suddenly legged it.
  8. Won't let me post the MOV as an MP4 so I'll have to send the tweet with the video in it. 2 positive CGs nearby at home. Good old October storm which happens to appear whilst I'm not there!
  9. 1683/84 winter definitely. V cold and severe. Shame there's not many widespread temperature readings to go off then but it was definitely cold!
  10. Wind caught me off guard slightly Must of been some straight line winds but certainly had a kick to it and forced me to hold a door shut. VID_20211020_230055.mp4
  11. Estofex back with a messy map and an outlook: Storm Forecast Valid: Tue 19 Oct 2021 06:00 to Wed 20 Oct 2021 06:00 UTC Issued: Mon 18 Oct 2021 20:00 Forecaster: DAFIS A level 1 was issued for parts of Ireland, UK and NW France mainly for severe convective wind gusts. SYNOPSIS and DISCUSSION A strong WAA currently taking place in western Europe, east of a deep Atlantic low which has created an impressive WCB. The associated atmospheric river that brings subtropical air in high latitudes up to N UK, will be the hosting environment of a few storms. A high-CAPE-low-shear set up in Ireland, W UK and NW France may result in a few damaging convective wind gusts. In addition, heavy rain is also expected, but most of it non-convective. Lower geopotentials can be found in eastern Europe and Asia Minor, where a few short-wave troughs will act as the lifting mechanisms of locally unstable air masses, mostly close to Tunisia, Gulf of Mersin and eastern Black Sea, but these storms should remain non-severe.
  12. 1987 by the looks, can tell by the low in the Bay of Biscay that seems to be ominously brewing. If I recall, the track was meant to go along the Channel or small part of SE? which would have meant some strong winds along the SE but nothing immensely severe. Do remember hearing about French forecasters protesting or something along those lines Of course that didn't happen, it ended up over the Humber with some exceptional winds along its southern side. 120 mph at Shoreham before the anemometer failed and the worst storm for 250 years. Exceptional temperatures along its marked warm front with Manston at 17°C and Camborne at 7°C at 0000z. Rise of 9.1°C in 20 minutes at South Farnborough.
  13. Margate Mean Tmax & Mins for each month from Dec '74 - April '75 with Manston 1981 - 2010 averages used for mean tmax and mean tmin & 1941-70 averages used for mean temperatures: Lowest min all winter was 0.1c on 16/02/1975 December 1974 = 10.71c (+2.81c) & 6.54c (+3.64c) Mean = 8.62c (+2.92c) January 1975 = 9.75c (+2.42c) & 5.13c (+2.97c) Mean = 7.44c (+3.14c) February 1975 = 7.98c (+0.62c) & 3.44c (+1.51c) Mean = 5.71c (+1.21c) March 1975 = 7.37c (-2.69c) & 3.6c (-0.01c) Mean = 5.49c (-0.81c) April 1975 = 10.59c (-1.97c) & 5.1c (-0.24c) Mean = 7.84c (-1.16c) Very mild December which was milder than April in terms of mean Tmax & mean overall temperature. March was also colder than all the winter months in terms of mean temperature with that being 5.49c. The month was 2nd mildest in the local area but of course December 2015 took champion with 12.4c at Manston for mean tmax & a 10.4c mean temperature.
  14. Was just sorting out through Margate stats in terms of 'first air frost' from 1900 and stumbled upon 1974/75 as flagging up as so indifferent to the others in terms of how late the air frost was. Overall average is early December. 29th March 1975 was the 'first air frost' in terms of 1974/75 which was the latest air frost out of the bunch. Data only goes to 2008 but don't think even 2019/20 was that late in terms of air frost and that was a very mild winter. Latest before this was 14th Feb 1944. I know there's some loosely available climatological returns for nearby available on the archives for 1868/69 but would have to look into that further. A showcase of 'first air frosts' at Margate is below. The date can be for the year after due to no frosts being recorded from November/December.
  15. 17.7c max (Midnight-Midnight) 11.6c min (2100z - 0900z) 9.4c grass min (2100z - 0900z) 12.5 mm
  16. Love some distant lightning in October. TRIM_20211004_213043.mp4
  17. Sharp nasty shower earlier with this beautiful structure to it just before it hit. I do like these showery days because you tend to get some good structures here on the coast especially if they cross the sea from Sheppey.
