  1. Feeling colder today. 0c with sleet and rain on the commute to work. With the forecast cold incoming, here's a little life hack to make things easier. If your car windshield is frozen, flip down the sun visors and then start the heating fans. Your windscreen will defrost much faster as the warm air will be trapped between the visors and the windscreen instead of blowing over your head.
  2. Indeed and might we see amber warnings as we approach Wednesday .
  3. Aye aye, A yellow warning for snow 5 days in advance is something of a rarity.
  4. Latest from the Met Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Often cloudy with a few showers, wintry on hills, Monday. More frequent snow showers, falling to lower levels across the north by Wednesday. Overnight frost, feeling cold in the wind. Updated: 04:00 (UTC) on Sat 3 Dec 2022
  5. Cold and snow upgrades for parts of Scotland overnight. Braemar looks fairly cold with temperatures at, or below freezing, for days. NW Highland could be in the firing line. Suspect weather warnings incoming.
  6. Please ignore the above as it's changed. Something else that's changed is the wind direction from mid-week onwards. The Met are now going for winds from the NW . Snow symbols, for certain locations, have been ramped up. Possible weather warnings next week?
  7. Hissy fits as the snow maniacs looked to apportion blame after a bad model sesh. It got out of control when one of the threads more knowledgeable posters was branded a "waffler".
  8. Winter 1962/63 redux kicks off in Scotland early hours Sunday. Sleet for my backyard with snow showers as the week progresses. More information on the Met Office app thingy.
  9. The outlook changes daily. I wouldn't get too hung up on the details a fortnight down the line.
  10. Update Met office outlook. Good and not so good. All subject to change of course. Wednesday 7 Dec - Friday 16 Dec There is reasonable confidence that temperatures will remain below average, and it looks like turning even colder from Wednesday. Showers will fall increasingly as snow in the north, even to lower levels at times with notable accumulations over the Scottish mountains. There is a low risk in the far southwest, of a more prolonged spell of rain, which would turn to snow over the moors, but this is far from certain. The best of the clear or sunny spells looks most likely in the west, though this could lead to some hard night frosts. Towards mid-month, the signal for below average temperatures weakens with hints of milder, wetter conditions pushing in from the southwest - though any such features could be preceded by a period of hill snow. Updated: 14:00 (UTC) on Fri 2 Dec 2022
  11. Definitely an "interesting" period of model watching, with lots of "potential". Ramp on you crazy diamond
  12. Mmmmmm, This sounds a bit underwhelming from the MO: Good for the Scottish ski centres UK long range weather forecast Tuesday 6 Dec - Thursday 15 Dec On Tuesday, showers and rain are expected in the south, southeast and north of the UK. Moreover, Snow and heavy showers are then possible across high ground. Moderate winds are expected in most areas, locally strong in the north and perhaps south of the UK. For the rest of the period, high-pressure systems should dominate across the northwest and low-pressure systems are likely to persist in the southwest of the UK. As a result, occasional showers and moderate winds are expected throughout the rest of the period, especially around northern coasts, with more persistent rainfall likely in southern regions. Snow and snow showers are expected at times across high-ground areas. Temperatures are likely to be below normal through the period, possibly feeling rather cold. 13. A wet and fairly mild - - start to the day. Aberdeen 9c. Winter alloys and tyres fitted last night and not a moment to soon going by the mad thread.
  14. It would seem so Met office daily forecast is now showing sleet and snow symbols for parts of Aberdeenshire next Wednesday. BBC weather are also showing similar weather next week.
  15. Before the Funicular went tits up in 2018, I maybe averaged 10-15 days a season, the tram was extremely busy and I suspect attracted the more fussy skiers and boarders. The type that wouldn't normally visit Cairngorm. Not everyone is interested in the archaic drag lifts, especially those that have perhaps been spoiled by Euro ski trips. The only reason I would entertain, revisiting Cairngorm would be once the Funicular is up and running. I do get that the aesthetics might not be to everyone's taste, but I doubt any of the alternatives would have been better.
  16. Not weather related, but good news for winter sports types. The repairs to Cairngorm Funicular appear to be going well. Tram testing today with hopefully snow for the resort next week.

  18. BBC weather picking up on the colder conditions for next week. Snow showers for Aviemore from Wednesday 7th December onwards. If the forecast holds.....
