  1. Haven't posted much lately as the weather up here has been pretty underwhelming. This on the other hand caught my attention.
  2. Lashing rain, sleet heading over the hills. Miserable.
  3. Cold start this morning, -6C heading through Torphins on Deeside. This has been an impressive cold spell that started mid November.
  4. Bright and breezy. Current temperature 7C. The local hills are still predominantly white, not bad given the slight thaw over the last couple of days A rare chance to open the windows and let fresh air in. Turning cooler again tomorrow.
  5. A complete non event for most 9f NE Scotland. Braemar on the other hand:
  6. Police urge caution amid amber warning for snow in Scotland WWW.BBC.CO.UK Officers say people should consider delaying any essential journeys as the Met Office forecasts heavy snow. Looks out the window and....SFA.
  7. Early finish at work today. On the commute back home I counted eight snowploughs and gritters spreading salt from Banchory over to Echt then out to Alford. Dry and cloudy with temperature around 0C.
  8. Met forecast was for a clear frosty start. - Chalk up another fail. 20210112_061200.mp4
  9. Very mild this morning, struggling to remember when last I saw a similar temperature.
  10. Quite a dramatic lift in temperatures over the last 2 hours. -9C to 0C. Still feeling cold in the wind.
  11. Sun trying to spill into the valley, temperature holding at -9C.
  12. Coldest night of winter so far. Currently-9C with light cloud. The BBC did mention last night that sheltered Highland spots could hit -15C. For these parts, the lowest recent temperature was 31st January 2019.
  13. A decent dump of snow last night. Few inches of snow heading over the hills this morning. Very heavy snow on Deeside between Torphins and Raemoir. Zero problems with 4WD and winter tyres. 20210108_061800.mp4
  14. Currently 1C with sleet. Mets forecast seems optimistic but we shall see. Significant thaw evident on the commute back home tonight, even the highest points on the route were free of snow and ice.
  15. The daily hack to work wasn't bad, light rain at the house, fresh snow on the hills at 250 mts ASL. No drama so far.....
  16. -6C at 4.30pm on the hills between Torphins and Alford today. I think that's the coldest temperature I've noted so far this winter. Snow is expected tonight, tomorrow and Friday so the commute to work could be tricky.
  17. Agreed and UK winters are only heading in one direction.
  18. Exactly. Id be checking the house insurance disclaimer on trees and maximum distance from the house.
  19. It was pretty wintry on the hill at the back of the house this morning. It sits at 280 metres asl and had a few centimetres. Cairn William looks like it caught a bit of snow, not unexpected given its height. Plenty of cold conditions during December that didn't translate into notable or significant snowfall. Perhaps January will deliver...
  20. Start stop best describes winter up here so far. No significant snow or cold yet, the last snow plough i remember was during first week of December. Currently 2C and showery rain.
  21. Even Braemar is struggling for the white stuff. Tomintoul gets a fair bit bit of snow if you don't mind the commute.
