  1. The trend towards milder and wetter UK winters continues. There are projections that COULD see the vast majority of England being frost free, MOST YEARS,, as early as 2040. For Scotland, the projection is similar but not until 2080. Spending winters in Scandinavia, if you have the money, could be an option. I worked in Norway during the 1990s and it was horrifically expensive. A Jack Daniels and coke was £16, buying a round was not for the faint hearted.
  2. After a couple of very wet and milder days, a switch back to light snow and ice. Currently 1C.
  3. Garthdee over to Northfield is a bit if a hike, more so in deep snow. The drink probably helped pass the journey lol. My Grandfather stayed in Garthdee and was forever showing me pictures of the time the North Sea froze. The pictures were taken around fittie. Dont recall the year but it must have been super cold.
  4. Completely agree. I'm old enough to remember the winters Aberdeen used to get during the 70s and 80s. It regularly snowed over the winter months, while snow in November and March wasn't uncommon. Winters started to change up these parts in the mid 80s.
  5. Agreed with your elevation point. The house looks onto Cairn William which sits at 450 meters ASL and the snows disappeared up there. Slightly warmer up this end of the valley at 3C. Win some, lose some.
  6. The heavy rain woke me up around 0530 and its been constant rain since. Further inland, and with elevation, could be getting hammered with snow.
  7. A repeat of last year me thinks. Ill go with -12C Braemar.
  8. That reads fine. No doubt about that. The problem is the Mets 10 day trend is somewhat different. Strong easterly winds next week but the source of the air is the Med.
  9. Different weather next week. Strong easterly winds. Less cold than of late. Definitely not a BFTE. Met office 10 day trend. A decent cold weather run so no complaints here
  10. Occasional very light snow showers for the last half hour or so. Looking west up the valley the snow is heavier and the showers more frequent. Judging by the amount of chimneys and flues running, a cold day.
  11. Another cold start. Currently-3C, sunny and very calm. BBC weather going with snow to low levels tomorrow while the Met forecast is for rain and 4C.
  12. I'd happily take that. That would be the third separate snow fall, during December, for this area. The last time that happened was 2010.
  13. Additional yellow warnings for snow and ice covering Wednesday and Thursday issued. Mmmmmm.
  14. The Lecht have been offering snow sports, albeit limited, for days. Meanwhile Cairngorm Mountain remains closed due to Covid-19. I find that slightly odd. Glenshee are also open but only for Aberdeenshire and Perthshire customers. Current conditions from the Lecht.
  15. Light rain for the last half hour. The paths and drive are like an ice rink. Pop a couple of Prozac tablets prior to visiting the MAD thread today. Something has clearly upset the herd.
  16. It definitely snowed overnight as the local hills are much whiter compared to yesterday. Around the house evidence of slight snowfall. Milder than of late with a temperature of 2C, mostly cloudy with the sun trying to appear.
  17. Similar story up here. The snow that was forecast for this area disappeared with the 5pm update. Thats twice that's has happened in the last 24 hours. Slightly frustrating but this winter so far has exceeded expectations. I remain optimistic!
  18. Light northerly wind, temperature still below freezing and some impressive clouds building. Looking east in the direction of Aberdeen. Snow incoming me thinks.
  19. Met office going with another 5 or so hours of snow for parts of NE Scotland. Hopefully they don't fudge their tunics this time.
  20. Met office dropped the ball with their snow forecast for this area last night. Frosty and dry this morning at -4C.
  21. According to the Met Office, snow tonight for this area 18.00 - 22.00. Possibly another dusting/covering.
  22. Been snowing lightly for the last hour hour. A slight dusting and feeling on the cold side.
  23. Aberdeen might well see some snow tomorrow. Check out the Mets forecast.
