  1. I just arrived back home and that wind is cold. The hive controller inside the house was reading 9C. Currently 5C, wind increasing and rain not far away. The Met Office have yellow warnings out for parts of Scotland tomorrow - ice and snow.
  2. MAD thread foaming at the mouth again. Winter 1947 being touted and that's before Scotland is "buried with snow" this week. What could possibly go wrong
  3. Latest update has seen the forecast accumulations reduced significantly.
  4. If snow and ice is your tipple, you're in the wrong country.
  5. As long as both are seasoned properly, both are good. Theres plenty of Elm being sold thanks to Durch elm disease. The best hardwoods for burning are Oak, Ash and beech.
  6. www.snow-forecast.com see some impressive snow accumulations next week for Nevis and Glencoe ski centres - mid/upper mountain. Cairngorm, Lecht and Glenshee look like missing out this time. The ski centres are currently free of natural snow, by Friday the webcams could be showing a significant change.
  7. Mild start with wind gusting to 50 mph. Great conditions for drying out the ground and firewood. Currently 11C. BBC weather forecast going with sleet and snow for low levels northern Scotland later today. Next week looks wet, mild and very windy. Tedious.....
  8. I questioned the low temperature at the dealership. Apparently cars use thermistor technology to measure temperature and are accurate. Since then, I've been comparing cold temperatures using the cars display and checking against a standard garden thermometer. The lowest temperature I've observed recently, would've have been -14C on 31-01-2019. The reading was the same on the garden thermometer and the car temperature display. This morning, the temperature was -7C via the garden thermometer which was exactly the same as the car display. Omega thermistors are accurate to 0.1C +/- or 0.2C +/- depending on type.
  9. Start of next week. Very wet. Very very windy.
  10. Very windy with rain lashing off the windows. Just in time for the weekend
  11. Temperature has risen from -7C to 4C in five hours. Clouding over with strengthening SW winds.
  12. Easily the coldest night of January so far Overnight low of -7C. Currently-7C at 10.10am.
  13. 10am and still -7C at the house. Tomorrow, according to the Met Office, temperatures up to 9C.
  14. Definitely nippy out. Reckon Whitehouse, which is down the road a couple of miles, will be -9C or lower. The Met Office current temperatures forecast is for -4C.
  15. The cold woke me up this morning. Currently -7C.
  16. Dry, calm and cold. Hard frost. -7C which will probably drop further as the sun rises.
  17. Fairly bright outside thanks to the clear skies and full moon. Easy to nip out for logs without the aid of a head torch. Didnt check the temperature, but it is very cold out there. Currently feeding kiln dried beech logs into the stove Heat output is ridiculous Just checked garden thermometer. -5C and already a hard frost.
  18. That reading was taken after the Range Rover went tits up approaching Whitehouse. Pulled over, rang the garage and told them what the fault was. Initially they advised shutting the engine down and they'd send a recovery vehicle. I explained what the temperature was and they told me just to keep driving in. As requested, I took a picture of the display reading as Aberdeen was only -12C. Car thermometers are usually accurate as they are mounted internal to the bodywork so as not to be affected by wind. I stopped to assist a motorist that had broken down beside the Tough junction as she said she had noticed -24C. Before the car broke down, I took the Rottweiler out for his morning walk, the garden thermometer was reading -22C. The dog was not best pleased and tried a couple of times to run back up the road to the house.
  19. Glenshee invested £1 million in the snowfactory which is sited beside the Cairnwell cafe. Snow sports are currently suspended until Saturday - recent mild temperatures most probably. Snowsports have been limted to a couple of beginners areas for almost all of the season. The Lecht and Cairngorm also have similar factorys on site and have been able to offer limted snowsports. Currently, snowsports are suspended although that may have changed. Forecast for the Scottish ski centres is for snow over the next week or so.
  20. Possible ice day here tomorrow. Winters back on the menu.
  21. Met Office are slightly out with their temperature forecast. Forecast 4C Currently -2C.
