  1. Canada's annual average temp is 1.7C warmer than 1948.
  2. Some impressive high temperatures being reported by NW:
  3. Thanks to the dry and windy conditions, the farmers are able to start ploughing the local parks.
  4. Howling wind on the local hills, buffering around the summits. Cold enough to swap into a merino wool base layer. Soft shell on top earning its keep today. Evidence of snow around 400 mts asl
  5. Decent start to the day, 5C gusty SW winds and bright.
  6. The latest Met Office forecast is for rain tomorrow for the Scottish ski centres. Latest Webcam images are so so. The high winds are scouring the upper mountain again. Cairngorm expect to have the beginner runs open for the weekend with the aid of artificial snow. Here's Glencoe at 1100 mts asl, scouring evident and not much depth. By next week the hills could be back to brown again.
  7. Cairngorm were looking into installing a dry ski slope with floodlights. That would definitely improve year round income.
  8. Very frustrating, particularly for the operators of the ski centres who can ill afford another poor season.
  9. Temperatures soaring again after the weekend. I can only see up to Monday via Met Office.
  10. Unbelievable: Hiker slammed for failing to cancel 999 call after 16 Cairngorm rescuers 'walk into' Storm Brendan - The Courier WWW.THECOURIER.CO.UK A mountain rescue team leader has blasted an injured walker who sparked a major rescue in the Cairngorms during Storm Brendan.
  11. Surprised by this given the images from Cairngorm webcams:
  12. Back in the 19th century, the UK might expect a severe winter once in every five years. Nowadays the likelihood of a severe winter in the UK has risen to once every twenty years. Spring snow depths have been reducing for the last 50 years. The bulk of the recent warming has occurred within the last 35 years. The warmest 20 years on record have all occurred within the last 22 years. Winters for the UK are heading only in one direction. Realistic expectations.
  13. The majority of the seasonal LRFs have been in favour of a mild winter since October. Nobody should be surprised. Anyway, here's current conditions in parts of Scotland.
  14. The snow started yesterday afternoon for parts of Scotland. Not sure why you think it hasn't? Drumochter pass this morning: A wee pointer, 50cm accumulations are generally reserved for mid mountain and higher in Scotland. Looking at the latest forecast, around a foot for Nevis and Glencoe ski centres. The vast majority of Scots wont see a flake, which is in line with the Mets forecast issued a week ago.
  15. I live at 165m asl, and theres no snow here. Here's Braemar this morning 335m asl. This is up from Corgarff castle up Strathdon. The snow gates sit around 450m asl. Not exactly a wipeout.
  16. Forecast is for the winds to ease back around 9pm but staying windy up here for the next few days.
  17. And you just know there will be some lunatics needing rescued from the Scottish hills over the next few days.
  18. Agreed. Estimate to repair the Funicular £10 million. Estimate to remove the Funicular £14 million - removal is a condition attached to planning consent. Looks like a waste of Scottish tax payers money.
  19. Wouldn't be surprised if the power gets cut out here.
  20. Craigievar castle Alford on a winter's day. The Disney fairytale castle was inspired by Craigievar.
  21. Pretty wild out there now, found someone's bin in the garden and there are branches and other debris on the roads. Rain and 5C.
  22. Absolutely agreed. You can't go wrong with seasoned ash. I can burn it in the stove for days, no smoke at the flue top and the stove glass remains soot free. I never have to clean the stove glass. Crystal clear. The neighbours stoves down the road belch white/grey smoke non stop. Christ knows what they're burning.
