  1. Terrible news of Vienna earlier in the week, we are certainly living in extremely challenging times globally. Beautiful day here, clear blue skies and lots of sunshine, lockdowns seem to coincide when high pressure dominates, lovely settled weather without the freedom to make the absolute most of it. Things got a little exciting this week - we had a bit of early morning frost. Keep positive, stay safe.
  2. Lovely walk to work this morning, cars all frosted over, the skies perfectly clear and a pretty shade of blue as the sun rose. The rest of the day sunny but had a few sharp showers during the morning. Dry and clear at the moment, lots of fireworks going off, I think folks are cramming their bonfire night in before lockdown. Loving these colder seasonal temps.
  3. Got a bit exciting a few mins ago, had a hail shower. Still dark skies to the west.
  4. Venturing out within the next half hour to shop for my vulnerables, not poked my head out the door yet, but I can hear the wind gusting down my extractor fan.
  5. Dry at the moment, garden temp at 8°. If you've got clear skies take a look at the moon and Mars, they are close together tonight, good photo opportunity to get them in the same frame. Dug out a couple of spare waterproof coats in preparation for the predicted rain, it's only a 10 min walk to and from work, but long enough to get soaked.
  6. At tier 304 you will only be allowed to buy grit or a snow shovel, not both, as there will be no mixing of both in any same household. If you choose a shovel it must be in the same bubble as your brush. LOL
  7. Just had a good beefy shower here, sounded like hail at first, but poked my head out the back door, it's just rain and my thermometer has only dropped by one degree to 11°.
  8. I must admit, the lack of daylight hours bothers me far more than days of endless grey gloom, really hoping for some snow this winter, and if it does snow, please can it hang around for more than 2 hours. We are all in need of a good weather distraction this winter.
  9. Same here, wet and a bit windy all day, trees almost bare of their autumn leaves. Garden thermometer 12°, quite mild still. Don't know what to have for tea later, just eaten a huge chunk of chocolate chip cake and double cream.
  10. Wind is picking up here at the moment, been out shopping for my vulnerables, managed to stay dry so far, but looks like I'm going to get caught out delivering it. It's feeling quite mild out too at the moment.
  11. Yes, it was really fine, you couldn't tell it was drizzling unless you noticed it against a dark background, the stuff that clings to you in seconds. As you say, the stuff that soaks you through. Not a fan of these damp grey days, mild too, garden thermometer sat at 10° for most of the day . Bring on a few nice crisp sharp frosts.
  12. Tis a grey morning here, I can go one better, got fine drizzle too.
  13. Wow, 16° at 1500m tis a bit warm that. Grim, grey but mild at 10° with a very fine drizzle here at the mo. Loving your pictures thank you.
  14. 5° on my garden thermometer at 6am. Beautiful clear sky still, the moon and Venus dominating the SE sky, good clear view of the constellation of Orion out west. Have a good, safe day.
  15. Yes, dark, chilly walks to work in the morning at the moment until the clocks alter at the end of the month. Bright sunshine peppered with the odd shower today. Garden thermometer currently at 10°, with the clear skies it feels more like 7°. Talking of clear skies, Mars is looking quite radiant in the SE at the moment.
  16. I wonder if that was when everybody dived into my place of work for cover. I don't know if there was any thunder with it. About 6pm as I left work, I felt a really strong warm blast of air, it blew off two fixed social distancing placards from half way up a lamp post and stripped a tree of its leaves, but didn't touch a tree near to it, no visual signs of a funnel, it was a bit weird. Some beautiful colours in the sky as the sun set, I wished I had my phone for a photo.
  17. Lovely photo. The wave like clouds on the left look like rare Kelvin Helmholtz clouds. Perhaps a more experienced member can confirm this. Fantastic formation to capture.
  18. It's been really hissing down for a little while this pm. Sky became very dark at one point. A glimpse of brighter skies in the north, quickly darkening again, garden is soaked.
  19. Macclesfield is currently under a mass of orange echoes according to the radar, and yes, it is absolutely tipping it down. News at 10 on ITV said that there are 20 flood alerts nationwide.
  20. I've just eaten the Terrys chocolate orange l was going to have after my tea.
  21. Ventured out to do mum's weekly shopping, got quite wet to-ing and fro-ing from the car. Not much of a breeze and it feels milder than 12° on the outside thermometer. Spag bol with extra garlic for tea tonight, followed by a whole Terrys chocolate orange.
  22. Moderate breeze at the moment, had a few spots of rain on and off throughout the day with low level cloud moving steadily East to West. Photo of last nights harvest moon with Mars to the left. It's a bit blurry, I was a bit bog-eyed in the early hours.
  23. Last winter was exactly like that for me East Lancs. I remember calling it grimter. Had a dusting of snow 14th Dec, it melted immediately. Had a couple of days where the surrounding hills were white over, then on 26th Feb had a bit of snow in the early hours, managed to put a few footprints in the slush before it melted. The rest of it was grey and grim. I would like to think that we are in for a snowy winter this time, cheer us all up.
  24. How can winter be boring? Hours of lamp post watching, waiting for that first flake to flutter down. I hope l get to see one this season. Snowflake not lamp post.
