  1. I see about an hour ago there were sferics off the N. Wales coast, thickening darker skies to my west too, I'll put my radio on, see if I'm picking up any sferics.
  2. I woke up briefly about 2.45am, had a look out my bedroom window and saw a small glimpse of what l thought were NLCs, my view is obscured by buildings, so I only have a small patch of sky with northerly views. Tempted as l was to jump in the car to go to my vantage point, I didn't as my alarm goes off at 5.45 for work. I have managed to book next week off, so I'm hoping for a chance to catch a morning show then. I just wish my house was that few feet taller.
  3. Sorry but I cant do links, but if you type insecam majorca on google, you then get a screen with a choice of cameras, there is a good live axis cam with views across Palma, the lightning is very distant though. It's a handy camera to know of.
  4. Good steady rainfall at the moment, garden thermometer in single figures at 7° but it feels cooler. Cracked soil, yellow lawns and dried up streams getting the soaking they need.
  5. Sferics in the north sea, off the essex coast heading towards east anglia according to blitzy, nothing on net weather radar though.
  6. That cleared almost as quickly as it came. Revealing some nice convective cloud in the Buxton direction, visible between house and tree.
  7. This is the direction l heard the thunder, south east, Buxton to Leek area.
  8. Just had hail here in Macc. I'm sure I just heard thunder too. Lights flickered a few moments ago but l put it down to gusts of wind.
  9. Fantastic hail shower as l type, lights flickered due to the strong gusts. Feeling quite cold suddenly.
  10. Tomorrows forecast is out from Estofex, sorry l can't do the link, there's nothing on it for the UK. See what Wednesday brings.
  11. Estofex has given the Catalunya area of Spain a level 1 today, there's a storm that appears to be heading for Barcelona at the moment.
  12. Apparently there were a few outdoor blazes at the weekend, fire crews were called to Bacup, Winter Hill, Anglezarke reservoir nr. Chorley and Darwen Moor. Info courtesy of BBC.
  13. Took a little drive last night up the A537, Buxton road about 12.15am, far reaching views over Stockport, Manchester. Capella clearly visible. Unfortunately didn't catch any NLCs. Perhaps we left it too late and the sun had gone too far below the horizon. Going to try again tonight about 11pm depending on any cloud coverage. The sun sets here about 9.28, will 11pm be a good time to try, I'm learning and value any one's help. Loving all the videos and photos on this thread, thank you for making the effort.
  14. I just down loaded it, but had nothing visual, just a little ditty of La vie en rose. LoL
  15. Threat of thunder across England and Wales too for Wednesday. Chart and radar watching until then, we'll see what transpires.
  16. I'll clap if we have some substantial rain. We need the balance. Record breaking spring, the weather keeps on surprising, just love it.
  17. Thank you for that, your post convinces me more that l have witnessed them.
  18. Its always worth sky watching, you just never know. June 22nd, last year whilst driving back from my daughters gig in Buxton, where there are big sky views north, I noticed a faint rippling of silvery threads, I stopped the car to view them to rule out dissipating contrails or cloud catching the reflection of the moon, my daughter took a photo of them on her phone, then they suddenly faded away. I would love to post her photo to get confirmation, but the silvery threads are barely visible on it. It was about 12.15am. Keep your eye out, good clear skies, you just never know.
  19. 22° according to my garden thermometer. For those of us who like these conditions, we are really being spoilt for spring. The first day of meteorological summer is upon us but already I'm noticing more cracked, parched ground. My mums lawn is beginning to turn yellow and one of her dhalias has snuffed it. Clear blue sky earlier, fair weather cloud now bubbling up.
  20. Good question, drones versus weather balloons, drones apparently need air pressure for lift to fly at altitude, so weather drones go up as far as 2.5km. Weather balloons aim for between 18km to 39km. So yes there are weather drones out there, but the info would be limited. Info from Google.
  21. Absolutely stunning, I notice it's not as wintry looking as an earlier photo you posted, but still beautiful.
  22. I find the enthusiasm for a bit of thunder on this thread most uplifting, if only the air parcels were just as uplifting, with all the right conditions, and no cap in place.
  23. Your summer will come soon. We have really been blessed the whole of May, for fine warm sunny weather, but my daughter and I have noticed areas where the ground is cracking due to lack of rain, other parts of the UK have been even drier. Garden thermometer currently at 23°, don't know if was any higher earlier, as have been in work today. Outlook for the weekend is looking pretty good, so we are having a BBQ, low pressure looks to be putting in an appearance next week, so things will cool down somewhat. Unfortunately there's no sign as yet of a thundery breakdown, love a good storm me.
  24. You are in a spectacular part of the world, seen your pics on all things Austria thread. By contrast, what is your weather like today? What are the temps like at the lowest altitudes? It's still glorious here today, garden thermometer now at 22°.
