  1. Is there anyone near me who has a decent Barometer reading at 21.20?? Mine is saying 975! It can't be........................??
  2. How interesting. I have never known the Met Office to do that before. Mind you I usually get sent "Cats doing stupid things" lol
  3. Ah, the highs and lows of model watching. Yes pick a model [pref 12z] and stick to it. But we don't, we watch every darned one of them and then take it as gospel. It is the way of the world. The amount of massive storms progged over the years only to dissipate up to and including 12hrs ahead is amazing. This also goes for Snow storms, Heatwaves etc. Our weather is the most unpredictable in the World [i read it somewhere] thus the problems we have. But the journey is great and even last year when all the Snow was falling outside, what were we doing??? Yes we were on here!!! I have observed the weather [and was once involved with it] for over 30yrs. Yet I still find it amazing. We sometimes forget how lucky we are to have such unusual patterns going on. Which is why I could never settle anywhere else! Stay safe tomorrow all. And if Thurs/Fri come off be very careful indeed. When you are sitting in your Car as I was in 1990 and the Wind catches under the Bonnet and lifts it up, now THAT is Weather!
  4. Off topic I know [and feel free to remove] but I do get quite cross when new members, mostly young and enthusiastic ignore or castigate John Holmes posts. This chap has more experience in his little finger than almost anyone else here. I still look for his posts along with Stuart etc for a reasonable non excitable, non ramping idea of what to watch for. It would be nice if others accorded him the deference he deserves. I thank you. p.s A downgrade would be good as far as I am concerned. When it comes to Wind I am still suffering from the 1987 storm which scared the life out of me.
  5. We were kept awake all night. No lights and the phone kept ringing with people trying to get hold of relatives and the switchboard not being able to cope I guess. I did put a radio on but the Guy at Capital was so scared he was scaring my Daughter so I turned it off. [apparently most of their windows were blown in] I have some fantastic photo's of the debris of the following day. Overturned tree's who's roots were feet taller than my Daughter who was 8 at the time. Husband was in Jersey at the time and he was told to be back at his Hotel by 10pm as the storm was coming! shame we were not warned! Still hate high winds, the damage that was done that night was horrific.
  6. Live in an elevated position here so quite windy anyway, but now it's shaking the House and the Rain has started. I have to go out in ten mins or so..............................MY hair will no doubt look dreadful. lol
  7. Thats what we thought last week in Leeds! lol. But when I popped out for a smoke there was a wonderful lightning show in the clouds. No under the stairs for me, I love storms.....................will leave the window open, it's certainly warm enough, so humid too. Good luck to all who want storms tonight.
  8. Me too! However that was 30yrs ago when I worked for the then "Aircraft owners and pilots association" and looked after you guy's whilst you took your tests. I also used to map out flights etc and call the met office for weather updates. Loved it. Back on topic.....................can't see much in the way of convective stuff so far.
  9. Edit. After looking at Meteox it does look like we could get some showers during the night. [puts Gin away]
  10. As I thought. Either it was going to die out or miss me altogether. Never mind, there is always Gin. I already had Thunder today, but I am rather greedy.
  11. ROFL. I am off to Pilates but I am sure that that potential "Storm" clouds in the Channel will have evaporated when I get back. lol
  12. Does anyone think that the "Frenchy" will make it this time? Looks interesting for the far eastern side anyway. Jane Louise. 5 years without a storm? you poor thing. For people who hate them perhaps you could advertise the fact. lol To all the younger people here, wonderful that you are. my kids think I am a weather bore!
  13. Actually I prefer Natures Fireworks. Saw a Woman have her foot blown off by a Firework at a properly run show years ago!! Natures Fireworks are just that, Nature. Some people are scared of Lightening, but I am not one of them. We may even get more tonight if we are lucky. Humidity very high here now.
  14. We have had five flashes of lightening and thunder, yet nothing on the net-weather radar!!! I was in Leeds last week when they also had a storm. Mind you, my Son-in-law thought the neighbours were bringing in their bins!! lol.
  15. Thundery rain here for the past 10 mins.............................................looks to be quite a long "shower" heading my way.
  16. I suspect you are right. The media like to hype this stuff up to the point of hysteria. I'm off to bed. Nite all.
  17. I'm thinking of those up north, my Daughter lives there now so I was a little worried. I also had a curry last night which was probably more potent than this. lol
  18. Does anyone know how far away she is now? The Met Office says 150 miles, but that was two hours ago.
  19. Because of '87 I am quite scared of high winds now. So many tree's crashing around us plus the neighbours Patio furniture flying past the windows was quite enough excitement for me then. The sound of the wind that night is something I will never forget. I hope for everyone's sake that this storm is nothing like '87, the damage would be catastrophic as it would happen during the daytime hours.
  20. OOOps, mean't WEST. lol You lucy Bas*ard. lol We really could use it here. No rain in weeks.
  21. We had a rumble of thunder this morning and a short shower. Just had a light shower. I don't care about storms now, we just need rain here. I stupidly mowed the lawn yesterday and seem to have sucked up the whole Lawn, it was so dusty. I'm even leaving water out for the Birds. Looks like i will have to get the hose out tomorrow. Blast it. The radar has been a tease all evening. Just 20 miles away to the east and it's been pouring down.
  22. Still hammering down here, the sky is a very deep Pink. I don't think I need worry about the plants tomorrow. lol Night all, don't expect any Thunder tonight, this is just plain rain albeit heavy.
  23. Here it goes again! So glad I live on top of a high hill! Bet the High Road is flooded, it always is as the drains just can't cope.
  24. Steady rain for the past few hours, now hammering down and has been for the past 20 mins. Like Tom said I am also glad of it as it's been so humid today and yesturday. I came back from Lincolnshire yesturday and watched the temp rising as I neared London. Am in Conservatory as Grandson is here and I can't smoke in the House! LOL So it sounds even louder! Edit, easing off a little now.
