  1. Rather than is it going to be cold or mild in a week or so’s time, what the charts appear to be consistent at is modelling the formation of a low just to our south. One to watch but there’s a chance we could be talking about the Boxing Day storm come the day. If there is one, must be named storm Chris!
  2. Quite. I just hope some members are not setting themselves up for a big fall. Too many years of let downs when things have looked nailed on have left their scars. Although they are favouring cold again, I would still urge caution as charts are still showing some marked changes.
  3. For a better chance of snow for here in the SE, I’d still prefer all this lot to push further south allowing an east to north easterly over us. That’s our best direction.
  4. Some dreamotics around this evening, but we know this far out still specifics can’t be relied upon. It’s still about trends at the moment, for a few days more at least anyway.
  5. Exactly. We are still a whole week away from Christmas Eve, and goodness knows what changes the models will go through until then! It’s always been about ‘potential’, and nothing more. How this is playing out has us glued on every run, and certainly another period of interesting model watching. If it happens it happens, if it don’t….. We don’t get snowy Christmas’s anyway, so we should not be too disappointed.
  6. I find this chart quite funny in a way. We know it will change, but the potential that is there if the air was a bit colder and with all instability in the atmosphere. Those who want us to have minimal contact over Christmas might just get their way if this trend continues, we won’t be able to venture too far!
  7. Not worth looking too much at specifics so far out as we know every run will chop and change. The encouraging thing however is both GFS and ECM showing very cold air just to our north east 10 days away with a fairly quiet Atlantic. It smacks of potential, and that’s all we can say at the moment. We will just have to be patient.
  8. That’s a good idea, bring Christmas forward as you get the feeling we are heading towards something that looks bleaker here than at present. Noticed those stronger winds on the East Coast have pushed a tad further south. Can we expect winds to pick up here this afternoon in the SE quadrant as the low heads south?

  10. Sorry, it was nearer 2c nearer more populated areas. Empty skies after 9/11 set the stage for an unlikely climate change experiment - National | Globalnews.ca GLOBALNEWS.CA Thousands of jets leave contrails over North America every day. They affect climate, but figuring out how was one of the more unlikely legacies of 9/11.
  11. How does man think he can now control the temperature and limit the warming to 1.5c? We can’t even accurately predict the weather 5 days out! Take away the jet emissions in North America where jets were grounded there after 9/11 for several days and the temp actually ROSE 1c. Seems to me cleaner air means higher temperatures, and with earth also in one of it’s natural warming phases I think they’ll be a number questioning actions in five to ten years time when things are worse earlier than expected.
  12. Read my thread “Should We Be Even Warmer….”. Trying to flip things quickly, if we think we can control the climate might have a worse effect. Not sure what the solution is but its more delicate than we think up there.
  13. 20-30 years time. Leaders, loud voices. “Oh, why is the earth still warming at a faster rate! This is not supposed to happen”!
  14. First, I am against fossil fuels and going forward support just about everything that can provide alternative clean power. BUT, What is happening? Could the ‘innocent intentions’ of cleaning our air at this time make things worse, in the short term at least? But is it short term? People cherry pick information to suit their agendas on occasions. Also, you only hear voices from one side about climate change and it’s ‘all us’ causing it. The media never report any counter arguments, it’s only these that you mostly pick up on forums because these can’t be right, or fit an agenda. It’s so one sided! One side is not being listened to or at least any concerns are not taken on board. We are right, you are wrong! We’ve heard that before. Let’s ‘cherry pick’ some evidence. 9/11. No aircraft over North America and scientists were waiting for this moment so tests were done to measure the impact of no emissions up there. The results were opposite to what was expected, a 1 degree rise in temps with the cleaner air. How can that be? We’ve seen the bar chart graphs showing a steady increase in temps since the end of the last century. But lay that over air cleanliness over the same period, that’s been rising too! In Canada, record temperatures this year despite the large drop off in aircraft emissions? In summary, could these ‘innocent intentions’ of cleaning the air actually be causing an imbalance at this time? We know heating greenhouse gasses can stay in the atmosphere for literally hundreds of years, while cooling sulfate gasses only remain for a few weeks. It seems by trying to eradicate all gasses, the greenhouse gasses remain but are we now causing a greater differential with less cooling gasses. The headline is we are creating an imbalance where we will only continue to warm. Is that what is expected? If we think we can control the earths temperature ask Greta and co what they would like the optimum temperature to be. A couple of degrees cooler than now? All I say is has this been thought through properly? Or if it has, are we seeing powers that don’t really care about us but only their ‘green’ agendas which for them brings it’s own amount of financial rewards. What seems like an opposite to the oil and energy companies might work just the same way of thinking when it comes to gaining hundreds of billions of pounds. I’m uncomfortable. We seem to have leaders and influencers on board, ones who will see we head in one direction. The evidence I have seen so far suggests the brakes won’t come on, more like we are only putting our foot on the accelerator. The rise in temp from less jet emissions, nothing is being made of that, no warning signals only it’s emissions so it must be bad. Yes, we can all benefit from cleaner air but perhaps there is already too much greenhouse gas up there already. I don’t know what the answer is but the solution may be a slower one rather than turn everything off quickly. You are left purely with heating greenhouse gasses and nothing to contra these. I’m concerned for our planet because the evidence I see is the ones trying to change things too quickly are the ones who might be causing the most damage, and there’s no real voice to stop them. They have a growing band on board, ones who are easy to influence because they are not being told the whole story. Wouldn’t they be horrified when in twenty years time where then told we acted too quickly, were too hasty, we made things worse, we did not look at the whole picture. We can’t even accurately predict weather 5 days out with our billion pound super computers. Who are we to predict what the impact will be now if we just try and alter one component of our complicated atmosphere. Nature will probably have a say in that as well. Back to the title of this thread, it seems taking away jet emissions at least causes our temp to rise, we can at least be certain of that. That should be a warning in itself however, what should the earth’s natural temperature be at this time if there were no gasses up there at all. We don’t know, we should tread carefully but there are those who want to go full steam ahead which in fact I see more of a threat to our future .
  15. I maybe wrong but I thought I heard environmentalists were concerned about the impact and disruption on life on sea beds where hydro turbines were cited. Given a short time though, nature can usually adapt to changes and conditions. It is a mystery. Tidal power guaranteed twice a day, whereas particularly down here we can go weeks or months with hardly a breeze. Wind turbines seem to have this rubber stamp, build as many as you can. My sceptical mind however doubts that the decisions made at the top are in the best interests of everyone, but only for a few.
  16. Looking at the lightning radar, I wonder if the trajectory of those storms just west of Lille could come into play here in the SE as the evening goes on?
  17. After both having recent bouts of destructive weather, seems the Czechs and the Germans could be in line for some more misery.
  18. Interesting how subtle little wind changes had such an impact for many. Just a 10 degree change meant make or break for a number. In the early hours for here that was ‘position A’ from what was available, an easterly with perhaps just a couple of degrees southerly to it.
  19. Looking at the radar, think the show/snow is over. Not a bad last hurrah though this morning!
  20. I expected to wake up to a sprinkling after the wind had veered around to the East last night, but must of had 4-5 inches. Very surprised! Still snowing.
  21. Looking at the radar, to my untrained eye showers look like they are just trying to push further up the Thames.
  22. I’d wait a while before you clean your car until the Saharan dust has cleared!
  23. Looks like Kent is going to do very well in the coming hour, or more. Here, just ‘fluff’ flying around on the outskirts of it all not adding to any totals, but a nice reminder we are still in the grips of this cold spell.
