  1. It’ll be hit and miss below 100m, I’m certain of it. Some places may get lucky but mild air from the North Sea may be a factor. A lot warmer than your average year in terms of SST (I know it’s coming from the SW but still)
  2. Gods country my friend! A route i was doing just last friday, lovely route it is, at least Stirling to Perth and then coming into the outskirts of Aberdeen you see the cairngorms! Yeah you should be ok there, sleetiness for much of that coastal run. Jedburgh, Moffat and Galashiels should look spectacular!
  3. i think low levels, particularly close to the coast will be more sleety than anything across the central belt. 100m plus should see accumulations. But just like a channel low, the precip might not make it too far up anyway. South Scotland looks best placed imo, around galashiels etc.
  4. ive listened to the met offices releases on this, including a twitter seminar thing today and theres still a huge amount of uncertainty.
  5. Whilst im not saying this isnt a significant weather event, i do think youve got to remember that this low is in its infancy stages, and theres a huge amount of volatility which we've seen time and time again doesnt always follow the track that people think it will. People have a reason to be concerned, but there's still a nagging doubt that the track of the low may not follow the route people think it will. For example, how many times in the depths of december or january do you see these lows go far south of the UK, or indeed develop with less severity than was shown on the models. Theres a lot of anxiety here, i can feel it, and yes whilst its likely there will be some horrible wind speeds recorded, i do think there'll be some changes in the morning.
  6. True, although thats not a hi-res frame there which is what i was alluding to. I believe the devastating gusts (80mph approx) are less abundant on some of the latest hi-res runs.
  7. I think this too, lets hope its much calmer tomorrow morning (and much further south
  8. Small crumbs of comfort, but perhaps slightly less extensive with these 70/80mph gusts on the latest UKMO output? Just my take.
  9. I think 90% plus people on this forum would if I’m honest! Going to be envious of those hitting the snow sweet spots this Friday
  10. Wouldn’t it just be classic this winter for a massive track change at the last minute? That’s all I’m saying….
  11. Im in exactly the same situ with my other half flying friday afternoon. Hoping that liam is right (just not snowed off but give me that over rubbish strong winds), and i guess as Nick says, the low hasnt even really developed off the eastern seaboard yet so the models havent got to grips with it yet. Tomorrow we'll know more!
  12. Losing chimneys, tiles, wheelie bins are possible on a residential level. Maybe the chihuahua puppy going out for a wee
  13. Yeah this is deeply worrying ive gotta say. Might just close my eyes for a couple of days and see how we look thursday!
  14. Dont like this output at all, even in the midlands. The other half is flying back to Poland on friday lunchtime, cant see for the life of me that it can go ahead as it stands. Also caught in a no mans land like i was in aberdeen, just a windy day but minimal prospect of snow.
  15. Some stunning photos, gosh you guys are so lucky to live up here permanently! West Mids nature/countryside doesnt hit these heights!
  16. Simple meteorology. Warmer oceans; more convective potential and more heat——more energy
  17. Barely been much though, none on the local hills and just a little today. a couple of dustings since i came up a few weeks ago!
  18. Daytime highs are depressing me this winter..... 8c, 10c, 7c. No good for anyone! Not warm enough for a tshirt and not cold enough for snow.
  19. such a shame, those hills would be a sight to behold covered in snow. Brown as a stranglers song right now.
  20. Ah good times. I wish id been around then, some stonking albums came out in 79! Tusk, london calling, off the wall, highway to hell, even voulez vous! Bon Scott and Ian Curtis were still alive, and my sorry state of a football team (WBA) were at the top of their game playing european teams and tearing it up. We'll overlook the fact the country may not have been in the best shape then. And yes a brilliant cold spell that winter when you had to rely on the evening news or radio for any updates, long before we had 4 GFS outputs daily and hi-res radars.
