  1. Very much wet snow here now, its washed away any sign of settling snow from before so just a bit damp and bleurgh. Reminds me of last january, snowed all day and didnt settle at all. We were spoilt rotten from late december and early january though so didnt bother me one jot! Very grateful i was able to see snow in slovakia now, i've had a couple of days of the good stuff if nothing else.
  2. So nice to see this. Who cares if theres loads of mild air in the mix in the coming days, for the here and now its a real boost!
  3. Coming down thick and fast here too! Echo other thoughts, shame it wont last as snow But who knows, 250m plus could be a bit more exciting?
  4. How did you end up in slovakia if you dont mind me asking? Beaut of a country mind!
  5. Was interesting to see the differences driving back from Birmingham to Stourbridge this morning. City centre- none, and then driving through west birmingham (edgbaston and quinton) and there was a reasonable covering! pavements/cars all covered (although probably a distant memory by early afternoon), and much to my surprise there was very little up in the surrounding hills, which i expected to be whiteover, but i think the band was very limited in its reach. Not expecting much in the coming days, but hey even a slight covering is a nice surprise at least.
  6. No I know that, tropical maritime means more cloud overall. Synoptically it’s tough to get both sunshine and ‘very mild’ weather in winter. But when you do get both it’s tolerable at least. That said, I’ve had my snow fix for two days in Slovakia visiting my other half, with some sledging, it’s scratched that snow itch haha.
  7. yes, yes it does. Western canada (my old home) is having substantial snowfall even to sea level in the lower mainland of BC, and a protacted cold spell in the offing. its sickening to see whilst we have slate grey skies and absolutely minimal prospect of any snow. Back on track and the old quintessential bartlett high (now where have i seen that term before) looks most likely now for a little while at least, and for those saying 'january is over' already, just look at how teleconnections played out moving towards christmas with MJO firmly in phase 7, AAM looking favourable, a split vortex and such and yet, the jet stream brought the low a little further north and therefore towards a more traditional atlantic pattern. Nothing.is.ever.clear.cut. Simple.
  8. With you on this. My girlfriend loves 30+C days, whereas i just want to hide inside and draw the curtains, i feel rotten. 16-21c and sunshine, give me this every day and i'll be happy! Even in winter, i love the prospect of snow and seasonality, but 16C in january, as yuk as it may seem, means getting outside is also a damn sight more pleasant and bearable than an icy wind on your back!
  9. oooh lovely, yep i'm hoping to see the cairngorms as im a big hiker, and if conditions allow i'll be doing a couple of decent hikes whilst im training up that way for the month! Can't wait!
  10. I’ll be working in Banchory as of next month! Will be looking for a few tips, and hoping to see some snow myself
  11. Is tippytoes your alter ego? happy Christmas midlanders! Here’s hoping we can see at least one decent snowfall here before winter is out.
  12. i'll put the chance of accumulating snow up there with the chance of goa seeing a white christmas
  13. You've definitely got a reasonable chance, not out the game like anywhere outside of the pennines or snowdonia range!
  14. Yes I’m gonna be super defeatist, and happy to eat my words, but I’m fast getting worried that this winter could be one of the most irritating/frustrating winters in my life thus far, just not getting good vibes at all
  15. Think he still posts regularly, @jules216 I’ve tagged so I can ask for his help! Feel free to PM too
  16. I cant wait to go now. Shame the real cold spell will have abated by the time we're there but we'll get into the mountains for a day or two, so i might see a bit of the good stuff this winter at least! Any handy phrases i should learn? I've learnt a few phrases from her but my slovak is 1/10 as it stands hahaha.
  17. It's really killing me that Vancouver, known for being one of the mildest spots in canada and my old home, is now looking a nailed on cert for a white xmas. Cold weather sweeping in xmas eve and at least a week of sub zero temperatures to follow. Makes you sick, meanwhile ive had my booster a couple of days ago, feel a bit naff and its 11c and grey outside. Someone cheer me up
  18. My other half is back home in Zilina and I’ve borderline asked her to stop sharing snow pictures with me! (Nothing risqué I promise ) I fly out on the 28th for NYE and not sure what to expect, but the snow in Slovakia is certainly enviable.
  19. That was a very special moment on Tuesday in the early hours, but it’ll be 8am tomorrow, probably, here’s to some good upgrades, plenty of precipitation and a watering down of that tropical maritime influence!
  20. This is a fair assessment I should think (not undermining you by any means) but really reinforces that it’s probably too much of an ask for widespread snow this weekend, but the odd surprise can’t be ruled out? That said, here’s to morning upgrades!
