Model output discussion - 7th January onwards
Skyraker replied to Paul's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Those craving an easterly are perhaps missing the point of how epic a set up like this can be and what it can potentially deliver. This type of setup with marginal polar maritime incursions can deliver round after round of very snowy conditions instead of a one shot Atlantic battle with entrenched cold. We could be talking feet of snow over almost a month, however possible rain events will be interspersed with a following snowy reload. I personally would rather roll the dice and have a history book set of events than play safe and rely on lake effect snow from an easterly. We’ve had that, it’s nice, but it’s not epic. This could be. -

I don’t remember the fv3 modelling anything seasonal in December. Perhaps you have a chart to jog our memory. -

I’m sorry, but this is just plain wrong and a half hearted troll which only confuses newer members. The upcoming cold spell was predicted back end of November by the strat guys and the SSW predicted and delivered around Christmas. Nowhere was it said that a cold spell was due either in November or December, the prediction was and still is mid to late January and unless I’m blind that is exactly what is modelled. Posts like these are either ignorant or plain childish tantrums and they are becoming bloody tiresome. -

@Kirkcaldy Weather Doesn't the GFS has a penchant for overdoing the depth of lows? If it is business as usual re: GFS then you could be right and the low slides through nicely and opens the fridge door. -

It is. It's just that some people make knee jerk reactions without actually understanding what is in front of them. -

Someone earlier was talking about the dangers of a WBNAO, but I can’t see this happening at all and even if it did it wouldn’t make any difference in this setup. Nothing is going to stop that cold flooding down now. -
Tea leaves on form there Steve.... but... Ghandi ? … Really ?

This forum sure loves it's metaphors *see above* and they drive me nuts, mind you when in Rome.... so here goes. We have our hole cards, just waiting for the flop. *cringes as he gets his coat* -
I don't think it quite works like that. You can't just colour in the troposphere the same as the strat. This thread ain't painting by numbers, so I should heed my own advice and let those that know continue to post in here.

A rule that all GFS posts are accompanied by the theme tune from the Benny Hill show should suffice. -
