  1. Looks like the models are starting to a show a gentle squeeze on the milder interludes as the darker days draw nearer. Nice to see this in reverse for a change ! C
  2. Some more pictures taken in the village this morning. Autumn to winter. C
  3. Couple of picture. First one is Avoriaz from yesterday and the second one this morning outside the hut snow clearing in Zauchensee. C
  4. Just for you @Hotspur62 Clearing a pathway this morning outside the hut in Zauchensee. Sparkling morning. Love it . C
  5. Picture this morning from the village. A few more cm of overnight snowfall. Temp just below freezing and cold enough for snow making machine to operate. -3c on the berg. Beautiful sunny crisp stat to the day. C
  6. Late Autumn / Early Winter cold across The British Isles normally establishes from the north rather than the continent. A big immovable Scandinavian High ? Its a long time since one of those sent prolonged cold into the UK. Yes, I prey for one as well. Good for you but not so for the Eastern Alps ! C
  7. Hi, we have snow already and more expected later in the week. I will post pictures in the Austrian Thread when we get the next top up. See you from Gatwick. I lived in Charlwood when I worked at LGW back in the 80s ! C
  8. Evening all. The Polar Jet Stream out to this weekend continues to show a more southerly track than normal with the British Isles on the colder side. Several models have shown developments of slider low in the vicinity of Southern Britain to move towards the Alps during Sunday as indicated on the chart below. Beyond that the models still ebbing and flowing with a continuation of the prolonged unsettled spell against some form of build in high pressure being more influential to the forecast for Mid - month. I have a feeling that a rather colder scenario getting established by then. This is mostly based on a continuation of the more southerly tracking jet shown by the models. C
  9. Morning all, looks like a fairly cold end to the week over The British Isles. Both GFS/ECM runs out to 10 days keep the jet on a fairly southerly track ( chart below) for the most part. This would indicate temps no more than average for most of this period or possibly rather cold at times. Longer term out to 15 days , GFS hints at a even more southerly jet into Euroland. If that was to happen, UKMO will be in a increasingly colder scenario. C
  10. Rare Polar light image caught on web-cam last night over Hohe Tauren National Park. Piste work on the Fanningberg early this morning above the clouds. C
  11. Rare Polar light image caught on web cam last night over Hohe Tauren National Park. C
  12. The Piston Boys out in force this morning. Plenty of fresh snow to work on above 1500m level. Temperatures for the week expected to remain close to freezing level at 1500m. C
  13. Morning all . According to latest ECM run , looks like a frosty start to Remembrance Sunday. Next weekend the European trough starts to fills out with a rise of pressure across Scandinavia. The Low out in NW Atlantic attempting to push through Atlantic air against a blocking pattern developing out east. C
  14. Here is a live webcam shot of our local ski -mountain from this morning. Another 20cm forecast this evening and more precipitation arrives. C 05270_65462137-311aVid.mp4
  15. This morning in Alpendorf. C
  16. One of my favourite places this morning, Alpendorf in Ski Amade.
  17. 50cm of fresh snow in the local mountains today. First picture is on the Shuttleberg in Ski Amade and the other in the village. C
  18. A bit of a difference emerging today between The American and European models. The latest UKMO keeps the European trough in place with unsettled weather continuation with seasonal temps for many . Our local forecast is for another Italian Low in place for Wed/ Thursday next week with snow in the Alps and plenty of more rainfall in the valleys. Will be interesting to see what ECM comes up with at 144t compared to GFS run. C
  19. 50 cm of new snow in Katschberg on the border of Salzburgerland/ Karten. Photos at about 1700m . C
  20. Snowing this morning in the village. C
  21. Snowing heavy on the local mountain this morning. Live video. C 05270_6544ccf5-4303Vid.mp4
  22. Morning , as feared and predicted by the models, especially UKMO , the marginal storm formation associated Ciaran is causing some flooding problems across Northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia at the moment. Large amounts of rainfall and heavy snow from about 1200m absl. Will send some snow pictures in the Austrian thread later. Currently very heavy fall of wet snow in the Eastern Alps.
  23. Yep, generally agree . The summer into Autuwn period has been for the most part hot /warm from Mid-summer to the present generally across Austria after a chilly start to June. I know my daughter who lives in Sweden reports a cool summer and now temps dropping to around freezing in Stockholm. A poor Summer/Autumn one for Blighty from what I can gather including Denmark .. Hope things dry up soon with a good run of Easterlies ? Meanwhile, some snow now showing on the peaks at around 1800m and probably the snow level to lower over the coming days. C
  24. Thats a remarkable statistic. Not sure about your sunshine totals but the combination of lack of sunshine and lots of rain make a miserable spell of weather for the NW counties and possibly across other regions as well. As a young lad back on the farm in Cheshire I kept a weather diary ( now lost ) but do remember 1967 as being very wet out on the fields and my Dad had to bring the cattle indoors. Back here in the Eastern Alps , a wetter than normal October but not especially so, rather more notable for another well above average month temperature wise in these parts. Just hope November back in Blighty sees some respite soon ? C
  25. Still difficult to be precise where the strongest winds will be. The 18z obs show the greatest rate of pressure fall to be on the Brest Peninsular, which would suggest a more southerly track. Fascinating few hours weather watching for you guys . Flat calm over Southern Eire at the moment. C
