  1. Reached 28c again down in the valley today. This September heading for the hottest and sunniest ever in these parts. Latest models seem to be firming up on a another pulse of hot air into The Eastern Alps next weekend. Even for the rest of this week not too much of a cool down. One heck of a spell of fantastic early Autumn weather. C 05271_64fec0ee-7e8aVid.mp4
  2. Loving the warm sunny early Autumn weather. However, I think by late November I start getting excited by snow prospects. Generally, I hate November darkness until the snow arrives ? C
  3. Good morning. Start of another week. Same old story , more warm unbroken September sunshine. A remarkable spell of weather in these parts. The live view is from a neighbourhood mountain that looks over the small ski resort of Radstadl towards the Dachstein. C 05271_64fec0ee-7e8aVid.mp4
  4. Yes it was. I remember back in the summers of the 60s/70s on my dads farm which was slightly elevated above the Cheshire Plain watching many early evening thunderstorms moving up from the corridor in the direction of Market Drayton. Even my dad called it "thunderstorm ally " I also remember back in the late 70s playing in a cricket match against Malpas during a hot summers Saturday afternoon and saw the formation of a storm over the Marches. It ended the game with one of the most spectacular storms I ever saw during my time in blighty ! It would appear going by reports they are not as common as back in those days in Cheshire. I also have no ideal why.
  5. The Stubaier Glacier exposed to strong sunshine and very high September temperatures. Currently in full drip mode. C
  6. The Stubaier Glacier in full drip mode today. Currently taking a battering exposed to bright sun and very high September temperatures this past week. C
  7. Wonderful evening sunset in the local mountains yesterday. C
  8. What an amazing spell of early September weather across much of Europe and The British Isles. Wonderful picture of the local mountain early evening sunset from yesterday. C
  9. Here is a live video of the local mountain top this warm sunny September afternoon. 24c in the village and a nice refreshing 20c on the berg. Nice spot for a beer and a ride back down to base on the lift. C 05270_64f9d0b5-7352Vid.mp4
  10. Ready for some Austrian Profeson. My favourite sweet dish. Pan fried brioche, eggs, vanilla and jam . Its naughty but nice ! C
  11. Morning from a nice warm and sunny Altenmarkt- Zauchensee. Temp in the valley expected to peak around 30c today, similar to much of what Central and Western Europe including parts of The British Isles under the early September heat dome is experiencing. Amazing weather. C
  12. I am quite sure this picture is of Shutlingsloe ?, high above Macclesfield ( The Cheshire Matterhorn ) . I do remember as a young man climbing up from Wildboarclough Valley to the top and ski-ing back down in the late winter of 1969 with members of a local ski club .Must have been mad but was good fun. Ended up in a pub called Crag Inn if memory serves me right. C
  13. Dachstein, Stairway to Heaven if you dare venture to the edge. Not for me, but you can see Grossglockner and the mountain tops of Slovenia to the far south and Czech Republic up north. C
  14. Here is another picture of the same supercell as it moved out of Bavaria into Austria ( picture taken to the NE of Salzburg )
  15. Zermatt at 1600m. Summer to winter . Quite a change in temps in such a short time. C
  16. Thanks for that insight. Great input. Hope to see you posting on here more often ! C
  17. The aftermath of Sundays storm. Pictures taken near Rauris showing the destructive nature of the heavy rain that caused the landslides and washing away of many trees. C
  18. A few more from a snowy Val Thorens to end the last weekend of the very hot summer experienced in these parts.
  19. If memory serves me right the landing on this shot will be on a SWly approach just to the right of the small Park Island bottom left and close to Bay of Palma. So safest approach to avoid that monster ! C
  20. A bit of interest now for snow sport fans looking forward to the 23/24 season. After some very hot weather over the past few months , especially in the French Alps , some welcome fresh snow has fallen , especially in the higher regions of Switzerland. The picture taken today 29th August 2023 on the Gornergrat, Zermatt. Here in Austria some snow settling on the higher resorts nearer to the Swiss borders. Looks like the first half of September to turn cooler than normal, so will be interesting to see any snow retention ( above 2500m ) C
  21. How about this for a convective cell. Picture taken on approach to Majorca Airport yesterday. C
  22. A pilot due to land at Majorca took this amazing shot of the storm cloud engulfing the island yesterday. C
  23. Miserable cold wet morning here. Temp 4.4c with a stiff wind. Snow could be falling on the tops. C 05270_64edb4dc-cc02Vid.mp4
  24. Crazy French summer coming to an end. After a week of temps around 40c in the region, snow returns to La Criosette above Courchevel. C
