  1. Yeah, if you can, find some high and open ground and watch the drifting. A near ground blizzard of sorts.
  2. ...Or the the lady in your life gets jealous and starts comparing your work with herself. That's a death sentence if ever there was one.
  3. Ooooooo lol. Quite looking forward to my walk down the canal tomorrow. The snow looks to have settled nicely over the moors too. Will take some pics !
  4. Perhaps it's best left as snowman, because women can be ever-so funny about their "shape".
  5. I didn't even realise that it was snowing outside. Very fine flakes. I am worried about my temp though. I haven't actually recorded an Ice Day during this spell. Twice scuppered, around this time, by invading cloud. It's warmed to a high of -0.6C. Please hold on !
  6. I can understand the temptation to ramp it. It must be so much fun to crank up your own warnings and descriptions.
  7. Nah, there's no need whatsoever for anyone to be pessimistic about this. We are in the grips of something special, a prolonged cold spell where we don't have to worry about temps, just the precip. And there's at least another week of cold to come. I haven't seen this before in my life and I am enjoying every minute of it. The low minima, the Ice Days, the snow, the pictures and all the excitement in the reports.
  8. I don't know who runs that site, but it is plagued by hyperbole.
  9. Nope. It's pushed back further with every run. Not that it's a bad thing. Prolong the cold and then unleash the battleground later on.
  10. I caught him earlier on. He mentioned an eventual return to milder coditions on Sat/Sun.
  11. Ah well...i'll log off for a bit and check back later for the 18Z. The frontal precip from the west, heading in on Tuesday, probably wont even make it in to the Midlands. Such is the power of the established cold and blocking to the NE. Brilliant to see the cold air winning out !
  12. The showery stuff to my north looks more organised. How we doing in Leicester / Notts ?
  13. I think the snow tomorrow, will at the very least, be slightly more widespread than that dangling piece of thin fluff running from the east coast to just south of Birmingham. Strange interpretation from the BBC.
  14. He's claiming it was his neighbour's. I don't believe him ! The sky has cleared here. I think that now heralds a change as we begin to look to the SE.
  15. Potentially moving towards some upper level warmth, but entrenched cold at the surface is hard to shift. Stagnant and dense it undercuts, if it moves at all. I would think that the models would need to trend towards more of an attack / a number of hits from the Atlantic to make a break through. Initial fronts will stall and unload snow / freezing rain, before fizzling out and giving way to cold, dry air once again. This is something completely different to the typical easy first round knock out of the not-so-sort-after (these days anyway) northerly toppler.
  16. Hey Demon, Tomorrow will be interesting. It reminds me a little of recent easterly set-ups where it has snowed constantly all day, but temps have been too marginal and gave nothing but a soaking wet ground. We have the temps this time and the snow cover. Any prolonged snow will continue to build on what we have. Ice day and an initial overnight dip in temp will compact it furter. This is new to me too. Snow on top of snow building over time. Snow events ! Great photos, Phil. The countryside looks so beautiful Your snowman certainly appears well fed on snow !
  17. Looks like there'll be an Ice Day here. Just checked my recordings and after a high of -0.8C we are down to -1.2C. Light snow, but very dark to my north east. Signs of the wind picking up too.
  18. Yes, I am very much enjoying a cold spell, comparable to the "old days". Something I haven't ever seen before. I'd say we have a couple of inches now thanks to a showery last couple of days, snow was largely absent beforehand. I shall be venturing out across the moors and along the Oxforshire canal tomorrow to get some pics and take it all in. Haven't had much opportunity working in a windowless office all week 9.30-6, so I am enjoying it all the more today and tomorrow. Snowing again Had around 6 showers so far today. The BBC seemed to have ignored these inland showers showing them restricted further east. I can see tomorrow providing another couple of inches. Let's hope we finally get a battleground to remember too ! That would be perfect.
  19. Showers, although fairly brief, regularly attacking from the east now. Very heavy and momentary minor ground blizzards as the snow is whipped up and blown about. Awesome stuff.
  20. Interesting development in to Tuesday. The low attempts to penetetrate our established cold, but the frontal PPN stalls and begins to fizzle out over the west mids. One to watch, but the mild will not win this battle. Prolonged and heavy snowfall in the west country.
  21. The showers should really start getting going and merging later tonight and in to tomorrow. With no thaw, even the lightest of showers are topping up.
  22. Just hammered it down again. Approaching a couple of inches in the garden. I don't see the issue with measuring snow cover on the grass and taking it as your depth. It is natural. Why measure on a concrete surface that nature never intended.
  23. unexpected snow is the best. Woke up to a heavy snow shower, must have about 4cms now
  24. Blimey...took you a fair old while to register then lol. Welcome to the forum (as a poster). Plenty more snow to come with this cold spell. This is just the beginning. There has to be a battleground set up eventually. That will produce big falls !
