  1. Just woke up to check the cricket and it’s snowing. A good dusting everywhere
  2. Anyone in Solihull/South Birmingham? Looks like a heavy snow shower over you
  3. Those in Birmingham fear not. Wikipedia is never wrong and it says this: Birmingham is a snowy city relative to other large UK conurbations, due to its inland location and comparatively high elevation.[125]Between 1961 and 1990 Birmingham Airportaveraged 13.0 days of snow lying annually,[126]compared to 5.33 at London Heathrow.[127]Snow showers often pass through the city via the Cheshire gap on north westerly airstreams, but can also come off the North Sea from north easterly airstreams There has to be something coming
  4. I can see a line of heavyish showers heading for Birmingham. Should be here in an hour or so
  5. If these charts come off, you’re looking at February 2021 being talked in the same breath as December 2010. The Atlantic has nowhere to go
  6. The Feb 8 and 9 2007 snowfall was a really big one here (8-10 inches here by the end) in an otherwise dreadful winter
  7. I highly doubt that the low at 168 will barge through the block like that. The models always overestimate lows at that timeframe and beyond. Would expect the low to slide. Also re precipitation, it’s the same story every cold spell when people say it “looks cold but dry”. Higher res models closer to the time will pick up on convection activity, troughs etc so it won’t be dry
  8. Went out for a walk early. Bitter cold and very icy. An odd observation. Snow which fell yesterday settled on small parts of the grass, some leaves and some cars. The randomness is striking- why did it settle on small areas of grass and not others. Distribution very scattered
  9. I suppose we in the West Midlands can’t complain this Winter
  10. I suppose we in the West Midlands can’t complain this Winter
  11. This sort of reminds me of an event in Feb 2005 when a system moved in from the SE. Just snowed all day but no settling
  12. That’s very true. A half a mile away from me is 230m asl at Warley Woods
  13. Birmingham may possibly be in a good place then. Although I need to get out and about tomorrow in the car so not too bothered if it doesn’t snow here for once
  14. The set up this weekend reminds me a little of 8 and 9 Feb 2007. By the end of that event, we had like 8-10 inches of lying snow before it started to thaw. That was a really big snowfall in an otherwise poor winter. Not sure how synoptically similar this is but just reminded me of that event
  15. I think we may need a new thread in readiness for this weekend’s potential snow events
  16. Round 2 this Sunday anyone? Potential for another snow event
  17. Very little snowmelt here today. Just a bit of melt off trees and rooves in the sun
  18. Yes a brief milder interlude tomorrow onwards but I won’t be surprised if a snow event crops up in the next 7-10 days out of the blue. Models do tend to overestimate the Atlantic lows blasting through
  19. Still snowing moderately here. Really good event. Will be so icy tomorrow. I think there will be a little bit of a melt tomorrow but not much leading to another icy start on Tuesday
  20. I’m sure there maybe some surprises. Atlantic systems against that block to the NE. Maybe a couple of milder days in between
