  1. Yorkshire has officially entered drought status after a prolonged period of unusually dry weather. The Environment Agency confirmed that the region joined other areas of the country, which moved to drought status last Friday, 12 August. It comes after months of little rainfall led to exceptionally low river flows and reservoir levels falling across much of England. High temperatures, including last week’s heatwave, continue to put pressure on the water environment and wildlife, the agency said. Yorkshire Water has already announced that a hosepipe ban will come into effect later this month. The last drought in Yorkshire was in autumn 2018. https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2022-08-16/drought-declared-in-yorkshire-after-prolonged-dry-period
  2. I'm surprised East Yorks isn't included in the declaration of official drought ? We look as parched as the other areas which are included .. and we have the hosepipe ban to come in a fortnights time. BL
  3. Woken to another 'roke' .. windows wide open for a lovely cool down ahead of the days heat. Just saw on the BBC news that Yorkshire Water are imposing a hosepipe ban to start in a fortnights time. BL
  4. Hiya, I had a mist on Tuesday and just been out in another good one now. So refreshing. Paul Hudson forecast it. I'm c. 7 miles inland. BL
  5. Yes my reading touched 30 C here too this afternoon. Hotter than I expected today and worse to come. It's getting concerning for the animals, crops and greenery. I'm doing my little bit feeding the birds and providing ground water in the garden. B.
  6. I briefly touched 36 C here. I took a photo for posterity .. or until its beaten tomorrow ! BL
  7. Just woken up from a nice siesta nap. My reading is an amazing 35.6 C ! Pottered outside for 5 mins just to experience that level of heat. The thermometer in the full sun is reading 45 C .. OMG I pray man and beast are able to find shade and water. BL.
  8. Sadly I have non in stock .. but I wondered if that greenhouse 'coolglass' white paint would be a useful idea for house windows to add another layer of shade. It is easily wiped/washed off afterwards. Take care of yourselves and the your pets / wildlife folks ! BL.
  9. I'd need verification from @reef who lives nearby with much better equipment .. But my outdoor shade thermometer is currently reading 30.5 C Phew.
  10. Having a few welcome, short lived showers here today .. Not sure if there will be enough rainfall to green up the grass again though.
  11. Ooo I didn't think anyone would be so much cooler today ! Thanks for asking .. its a bit of a struggle to be honest .. 3 weeks today since my big op. Some steady healing progress but its often very painful. I'll get there . Cheers.
  12. Hi all, My reading is 31 C at the moment .. Phew what a scorcher. No afternoon walk for the whippet that's for sure ! Hope folks think of their pets .. especially caged ones. I always provide ground water for wildlife .. hedgehogs etc. Enjoy it if its to your liking.
  13. My whippet starts barking and going nuts when the blackbirds make that alarmed 'ticking' call because she's learned that I run out to try and help .. scaring off any cats or predators !
  14. Aye, it is rare to hear it called that to be honest .. just adding a genuine old East Yorkshire dialect word for the fret / haar. My husband introduced me to the term and we use it .. (I'm not from round 'ere originally)
  15. Funnily enough I saw mention of this topic on today's BBC news .. A review of the papers .. the Sunday Telegraph .. Mentioned that Oxytocin levels rise considerably in both humans and their pet dogs when gazing at each other. The 'love hormone'.
