  1. Its funny how the weather does exactly what you dont want it to do...Its only fair that you guys get the 30oC and we get the storms... (doubt it'll come to anything here either though)!
  2. Funny how i was so disappointed earlier when i heard England was going to get most of the action, especially given that its 12oC here in Aberdeen and you lot are hitting the highs of 30oC, yet you seem to be getting very little and most of it looks like its skirting up the east coast towards us... Who'd have thought?????
  3. 23cm's Portlethen, AB12 @ 1330 **should i maybe include that Tomintoul (aberdeenshire) has 90cm's? Dont know if we have any members from that area?
  4. Already had laying snow here in Portlethen, on Aberdeenshires coast in October...
  5. 220m, thats pretty insane. That must have been either very deep or absolutely no sunlight and shelter from rain.
  6. Well were still skiing at Cairngorm just now so i dont think were anywhere near the time to be counting remaining snow paltches in the Grampians. Will probably be skiing until June up here this year. All we need is a well below average summer and you never know but could be skiing throughout the summer here. especially if Kelta erupts and blocks some sunlight over the UK.
  7. Had snow showers here for the past 2 days. Some heavy snow showers last night at about 10pm. Woke up at 4am (rather, my son woke me at 4am) and there was a light dusting of the white stuff outside. Had the same again today, showers of snow, sleet and hail.
  8. Not quite 3000ft but here are some shots from the top of the Lecht late last week.
  9. Yeah i know, tell me about it, they only just managed to get to Cairngorm Ski resort. The train is still blocked. The snow depths are 150cm lower and 250cm upper. There are 25ft drifts in some places...absolutely crazy amount of snow in Scotland this year, long may our winters like this continue
  10. I would shudder the thought of how many snow days Banchory here in Aberdeenshire has had. We still have an easy 6" on the ground, i would guess at about 40 days since Dec so far...maybe even more, places such as Braemar prob havent had any days free of snow since Dec, they still have 2feet on the roofs
  11. I know this isnt Alpine but it is still Skiing, but here is Scotland... Cairngorm - 150/250 Glencoe - 110/140 The Lecht - 70/110 Nevis Range - 70/120 Glenshee - 60/110 Absolutely amazing...skiing til June anyone???
  12. Lovely crisp winters morning...about 3" of snow, even here at the coast! Snow has settled on everything, even the walls of the houses!! Blue sky, little wind, perfect alpine conditions for those away skiing today!!! I'm heading to Aviemore for the night but i'm wondering if it will be a good idea with the snow forecast? Anyone want to advise what the weather is meant to do between Aviemore and Aberdeen...just not keen driving that far unless i know!
  13. Been snowing here since about 7am. Left this morning to about 1-2", all white! Snowing again here in Banchory!! Looks like its going to be another renewed cold snap for these parts!! Yay!!!
  14. Hehe!! I will patiently wait in anticipation of the outcome of this enquiry! I hold my own personal judgement but i shall keep that reserved for now!
  15. still plenty of snow in banchory when i left last night, not sure how much will remain after the pouring rain for nearly 12 hours straight here...wonder if this rain is falling as snow on cairngorm, hope so...they were battling 15ft of snow yesterday and had to get 2x26 ton dozers up to try and clear the road!
  16. What a difference 15 miles makes...all the snow except the hard packed ice has melted in the rain today on the coast, 15miles in land and its basically not shifted, trees still covered etc! Unbelievable!
  17. -20 is very cold...if your hands are out in it for about 5 mins they turn very very numb, your movemensbecome slow, speach slurs and concentration drops (if exposed long enough). When you go back inside from the cold they turn very red quickly with the returning blood flow, that in itself can be painful. The coldest i've had is -35o windchill on Glas Moal (Glenshee) that was 50mph sustained wind and snow crystals hitting your face. That was like hundreds of needles hitting your face, to be honest if i was naked i'd have passed out and died in about 2 mins! Its really not nice, cold snowy weather is pretty but people dont understand the dangers, they think its all about records being broken but it is a very real threat if you are out in it and nt prepared. You should go to Cairngorm or Glenshee for the day so that you can experience it...its definately worth the time, especially in your own country!
  18. Yeah, i'd agree with the thaw for the East, we've already noticed it here...had quite abit of snow last night but its beginning to thaw...its actually warm outside!!! Cant believe i'd say that when its 3oC...just shows you what this cold spell has done to peoples perception of "warm" weather!! I can stand outside with a jumper and not shiver its that warm...jacket, who needs a jacket!!
  19. Was in Stonehaven, recently moved to Portlethen...
  20. Been snowing here for about an hour now, some very large flakes...so far we've had about 1-2", the roads were clear when i went into ASDA, did the shop and came out and now all is white and powdery! Long may it continue!
  21. snow currently falling in Peterhead...35 miles south to travel and i'll be smiling!!
  22. -7c in Portlethen, -10c in Banchory and -19c at Castle Fraser
