  4. where is this magical 40cms coming from...what about people in the highlands with over 3 feet???
  5. Stick it on a postcard, addressed "Aberdeen", we'll gladly have it!! But yeah your right...plans should be made for people getting home early...the media could help a bit with that but unless it occurs in England it wont happen!! why is there a huge corridor of "no snow", heading right for aberdeen? North by 30 miles or south by 30 miles and its looking good....Arggghhhh
  6. It would take "The Day After Tomorrow", even then i bet it would be a report of... Cold with occasional snow showers with sleet on the coast!!
  7. mental snowfall last night! Fantastic cold spell this!!
  8. Just had about 3" in one fall, right here at sea level...a work friend just called from banchory saying they have recieved an additional 4" of snow and its still heavy (about 20mins ago)...told her that if we get anymore tonight i aint going into work tomorrow!!!
  9. The traffic cams are showing quite a bit of blizzard from Ellon West! http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/
  10. Well we must be one of the very few without rain, snow here in portlethen, no preceeding rain what-so-ever! Looks like it blowing a fair distance as the main cloud band is over Altens/Nigg area! Absolutely blowing a gale!!
  11. Reports that the rain in peterhead has turned to snow!! Possible undercutting of cold air?

  14. I'm afraid it does just seem to be aberdeen that is the wrong side of marginal...even us in Portlethen had snow last night... Here's a link that might cheer you up, from the Evening Express http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/1546374
  15. looks like a few showers are heading down the east coast!
  16. Here are some images of the River Dee in Aberdeen that i have taken over the past week!! Now this is river ice...
  17. Well my parents (both in their 60's) have told me that they cant recall a cold spell with snow falling every morning for 2 weeks and thundersnow in the past 20-30 years, my aunt in inverness says she cant recall this much snow etc since the mid 80's, so with another possible 2 weeks of cold weather and a major snow event mid-week, this really could be on of our best winter (worst) since the 40's-50's-60's and if the prjected temps are slightly worse than forecast for the highlands this could be the year where we hit -30oC!!!! Just think for a moment...imagine telling your kids or grand kids that you remember the winter of 2009 and it being -30oC...tell you something, never thought i'd have that opportunity, it'll save my parents telling me "you dont know what cold is...when i was young we had this and that"... Quite like the idea of proving them wrong so GFS, you can just be correct!!
  18. Was raining during the night, stared falling as snow at about 10am...does feel colder now! raintoday looks good for snow coming in off the sea! lets hope we get a decent fall!
  19. Thanks LS...Well i pray you are right! That other post on the other forum was good, however, there wasnt a great deal regading scotland over the coming days! Seriously???? Do people not realise its New Years Day...why would you talk about something like that when you cant even say for sure if its gonna happen...and what about the -18oC and 60cms of snow in aberdeenshire and highlands? I doubt anywhere except the mountains will top that all winter! Although i do hope we will
  20. LS, with such low uppers, in the region of -10 to -12, why would the showers that sweep the NE coast fall mainly as sleet? As you mentioned in your summary, the charts look very similar to the 23rd December, it was this event that gave us the snow that is still on the ground here! I can only presume that the wind direction will be having a major influence on the temps at the coast, however, does it not have a cold origin?
  21. Net weather need to win a few government contracts then, that will provide some competition to the MetO, NW certainly have the knowledge to become a great forecasting service, and by the looks of it, they are starting to get the followers too!
  22. Cairngorm Mountain website have updated and are claiming to have at least 100cm of snow on average across the mountain with several feet in places, any deeper and all the snow fences will be gone, now that would be fantastic as i find those fences really unsightly, it would look very similar to the als in that situation! They have also stating that it is currently the best place to ski in Europe!
