  1. Afternoon All, I am in Nottinghamshire at the moment, I've seen about 30 minutes of moderate snow which has left a covering, the sun is now trying to melt this. I will be heading back down to Southend in about an hour so it will be interesting to see how far I get before the white stuff runs out. FC
  2. Not seen such heavy or persistent grauple before.... ohhhh and its just changing to proper snow!!!! FC
  3. More rain here in Keyworth just south of Nottingham FC EDIT just changed to grauple
  4. Morning all, Just had a rain/sleet shower here in Keyworth, that was the first precipitation I have seen today, I was in Nottingham City Centre until 11am where it was perfectly dry all morning. Cheers FC
  5. Afternoon All, A light wintery shower with everything in it just went through Keyworth, just South of Nottingham, it only lasted a couple of minutes as it was blown along by the brisk wind. Cheers FC
  6. Glad to see things are starting to normalise in the Alps, plenty of snow for the snow starved areas too. Next weekend is going to be interesting, I hope they do not get too much snow, just a really good top up and the roads to the resorts able to remain open would be ideal to get the season well and truely back on track. I am at home in SW France and we have the potential for an ice day today, an incredibly rare thing, it is still -3 at lunchtime but thoroughly miserable with freezing rain and fog... Cheers FC
  7. Possible ice day here in the Charente (SW France) today, lots of freezing rain about too. Took my daughter to her horse riding lesson and all the ground at the riding centre was sheet ice. It is still -3 and its almost midday! Sadly no snow around, I always find it odd that it is so cold but it still cant snow.... Take care FC
  8. Hmmm.... Frustrating to hear all the snow reports coming in from North Nottingham and here a couple of miles south of Nottingham its just light rain after an earlier sleet shower this morning. To be honest it feels too warm for snow here at the moment. Cheers FC
  9. Morning all, Got a light snow shower as I drove into Harrogate this morning, its given every thing a nice dusting, fantastic wintery sunshine too. FC
  10. Afternoon All, Rain & sleet in Keyworth, temp now down to 2 degrees according to the car, but it is refusing to turn to snow... FC
  11. Afternoon all, Rain just started falling here just south of Nottingham (Keyworth). Cheers FC
  12. Morning all, Interesting weather today, drove from Southend to London and then up to Nottingham. 11 degrees and rain in the capital, followed by bright sunshine as I crawled up the M1 and its now just 5 degrees here in the Midlands. Onwards up to Harrogate tomorrow before back to Southend on Thursday, hopefully I will see some white stuff somewhere on that route... Cheers FC
  13. Afternoon All, It is looking like my trip to Austria over Christmas was not so bad, with great skiing conditions from the 26th to the 29th when we left. Austria still looks like the place to be with great skiing still availble above 1500m they are certainly fairing better than many other countries so far this season. I am toying with the idea of heading back to Salzburg and the Hinterglem later in the season, I loved it when I was there at Christmas. Good luck to all going skiing in the near future, I hope you find some snow.... this is a great thread with excellent forecasts and 'live from the piste' reporting. Cheers FC
  14. Evening all, Amazing snow conditions today compared to 2 days ago here in Austria, went skiing in Saalbach Hinterglemm today and you could ski right down to the resort. Picture post card weather everywhere you looked and another 10 to 20cms to fall overnight, the winter season is finally in full swing. Snow cannon are still being used at lower levels to keep the pistes in good condition. Its our last day tomorrow so we are pleased to have had a good couple of snow days this trip. Cheers FC
  15. Evening all, Well the promised 10 to 12cm of snow today did not materialise in the Salzburg area of Austria, I think we may have received 1cm. Hopefully more snow will fall with the next front coming through tomorrow evening. Cheers FC
  16. Morning all A much better day in the Austrian Alps today, snow falling down to much lower levels, we have a covering in Salzburg and it is set to snow for the whole day. Went skiing at Zell Am Zee yesterday there was lots of snow on the top but there was no way you could ski down to the base stations so this snow is desperately needed by resorts below 2000m. Off to enjoy some more skiing now Enjoy boxing day everyone FC
  17. Evening all Thanks for the update J10, its getting much colder in Salzburg now, we found lying snow from about 1600m today, not much was ski-able under 2000m. Hope that the promised snow fall begins tomorrow afternoon to give us a couple of days of good skiing before heading back to NW Europe on Sunday. Merry Christmas all from Salzburg. FC
  18. Morning all, You all may know this already, but I have just discovered you can get the 3sat live stream of ski resort webcams on your computer for the latest snow conditions in Austria, and it gives the snow starved a second hand snow fix. Merry Christmas all FC
  19. Evening all, We are in Salzburg now, no snow down here but had a lovely chilly but sunny day at the Christmas Markets. Snow is expected here on Christmas Day down to about 600m, below that it will mostly be rain. If we want skiing at the moment we are going to have to travel, but hopefully after Thursday we will be able to ski a bit closer to Saltzburg. I will give another update later in the week. Temps indeed falling rapidly under clear skies, it was below freezing at 18:30 this evening. Happy Christmas one and all... FC
  20. Thanks for all the updates, I am heading off to Salzburg tomorrow with no great hope of snow in the local area, we might be driving to the glaciers to get a snow fix. I will try and give some updates whilst I am there. Cheers FC
  21. HI BW Now that looks like a good back up plan, we are in Salzburg its self so we would have to drive anyway (we have skiers and non skiers) the Gaissau-Hintersee is the closest but there is no snow at the moment, and they are forecasting heavy rain (32mm) on Wednesday so the Kitzsteinhorn will be a great backup plan, I guess it will be busy though if the lower resorts are closed. Thanks for the update, its much appreciated. FC
  22. Evening All Now I am starting to worry, with a week to go before we leave it is still looking very green around Salzburg, we may have to travel a bit for our snow fix..... Cheers FC
  23. Afternoon All, Interesting drive from Southend to Gatwick at 5am this morning, the calmest place was on top of the QE2 bridge, the rest of journey, the A13, M25 and M23 were mayhem. When my flight eventually took off I was slightly disappointed that we only had a couple of mild bumps as we went up through the cloud layers, infact the landing in Bordeaux was bumpier... where it is dry and 14 degrees at the moment and no wind. Have a good weekend one and all FC
  24. Bonjour, I have not seen this thread before... its a great idea I work in the UK during the week and at the weekend I am at home in the Charente. It was -2c this morning here in Sigogne and everything is looking very crisp and white, and it is very cold! well it is for Southern French people :-) 2 weekends ago I was working in the garden in shorts and t-shirt, then bang the weather broke that weekend and winter arrived. We have already burned more wood over the last 2 weeks that the whole of last winter!! Cheers FC
  25. Afternoon All, We are heading to Salzburg on the 20th December, so watching the blog very carefully, it looks like you are promising a little more snow than the local forcasters, they are sticking with a dusting for the next 7 days before a heavier fall could commence around Sunday next weekend. I am looking at the Gaissau-Hintersee area (only 1570m) but closest to our hotel. It looks like we may have to go further afield to get some good snow at the moment. Thanks for the time and effort on the blog I shall be an avid reader this winter. Cheers FC
