  1. Afternoon All, Big lightning flash and thunder clap over Westminster about 20 mins ago, white stuff briefly falling too, but I am not sure what it was, the sun is out now. FC
  2. That looks interesting, so not much chance of it coming off..... nice to see though, and look at France!! There is currently a 12% risk of snow in London for Sunday, that is probably 11.75% too high for this time of year, but it will be chilly compared to our current weather. The bank holiday weekend is not looking that great at the moment although temps do look like they will recover from Wednesday next week onwards, but still with the ever present risk of rain, it is a bank holiday after all :-) Cheers FC
  3. Afternoon All, Its lovely day here in Central London, St James Park is packed full of office workers having lunch in the warm sunshine, which is making the work of the arborists in the park, somewhat interesting. I guess the park will be pretty empty tomorrow! Cheers FC
  4. This storm must be dragging in some really cold air on the back end as it loops around FC
  5. A friend of mine near Melton Mowbray says it is snowing quite heavily at the moment... wierd FC
  6. Morning all, Here in Southend it is another day when that keen wind and layer of cloud are holding the temps down making it feel quiet fresh out there still. We did hit double figures yesterday for a short while, then an over night low of around 5 degrees. The sun is doing battle with the cloud, but at the moment the cloud is winning. FC
  7. Up to Christmas winter failed to make a real appearance in the Charente, and since Christmas we have had nothing but rain but still no real winter, our one threat of snow was withdrawn 2 days before it was due and arrived as more heavy rain. We are still, like many areas of France still on a yellow warning for 'inundation', i.e. flooding and although we are on top of an incline we are still waiting for the water to clear from our drive, however it does look like spring is about to put in an appearance. FC
  8. Morning all, Well that was a bit of a surprise this morning, one of the hardest frosts of 'the winter' in Southend this morning, fog appearing as I progressed into London. Also saw my first cherry blossoms of this spring, in East London. Sun is now out in central London and it is already feeling quite nice. Have a good weekend one and all FC
  9. Afternoon all, After a c;loudy start this morning the sun has come out here in Southend, temps have hit double figures and it feels a bit spring like out there. Long may it continue Edit: double figures did not last long temps now dropping again FC
  10. Evening all, it is pretty quiet on here this evening... I finally got to see some falling snow today, though it was on my drive back from SW France to the UK and it only lasted about 15 mins. I was about 20 mins north of Rouen and the heavens opened and threw at us every concievable type of frozen precipitation including the northern France favourite, frozen rain. It was all over in about 15 mins and then it was sunshine all the way to Calais. Guess that will be my brief snow fix for this winter... FC
  11. Really frustrating, I was up north in Leeds and Barnsley on Wednesday and did not see a flake. On the plus side the sun is really nice here in London, just hope the snow does not hit Luton airport at 5:00pm as that is when I am heading off to Bordeaux. Cheers FC
  12. Morning all, Blue skies and well above freezing in Southend this morning, at least it was when I left earlier this morning. London also has lovely blue skies this morning and it is not that cold either. Cheers FC
  13. Morning all, It was coldest morning I have seen this winter in Southend at -3 degrees around 5:00am when I left, passing through Melton Mowbray at 7:30am the car's thermometer hit -7 degrees. All in all a very nice bright but cold and frosty morning, lovely..... Cheers FC
  14. Morning all Yes... finally got to use up the last of my very old can of de-icer, minus 2 degrees in Southend this morning. I had a glorious early morning drive up to Nottingham, a lovely sunny winters day, its a pity I have to spend most of it indoors. Cheers FC
  15. 5 days in a row of strong winds and rain, and finally this morning the wind has died down to nothing. Saw the Saper Pompiers out and about in convoys with thier pumping equipment yesterday, water levels everywhere in France appear to be high at the moment. We live at the top of a gradient, but the folks down at the bottom are watching the Charente and its tributaries very carefully as the are pretty close to flooding now. Hopefully we will be back to posting about the amazing sunshine soon, but not this week I fear. FC
  16. Finally saw some frost in Southend this morning at 5:00am, it was 0 degrees, still did not have to open my bottle of de-icer though, one swish of the wipers and it was gone. Did see -3 degrees in Leicestershire, which makes this morning the coldest morning I have seen this winter. Now it is a beautiful spring day here in Nottinghamshire, I get about quite a bit :-) Cheers FC
  17. This is going to make my flight into Gatwick at about 11.00am tomorrow an interesting one, that is if the plane gets out of Gatwick at 8.00am in the first place to come and pick me up... stay safe everyone... FC
  18. We managed -1.3 here in Southend last night, grey skies this morning and up to 6 degrees now. Cheers FC
  19. Just heard from my friends in Holland that in the north of the country they are ice skating on the roads as everything has suddenly frozen over, the cold is creeping closer, will it ever get here? FC
  20. We were able to have our apero's outside yesterday, the official temparature was 16 degrees, but our sheltered garden hit 21 degrees at one point. The bizarre weather continues, I am beginning to wonder if we are just going to skip winter this year... Cheers FC
  21. yep very bizzarre, we have just had another weekend of sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine whilst the sun shines, having cut the grass again! I think I could be mowing the grass on Christmas day by the looks of things. On the one hand I would say don't knock it, it is one of the reasons we moved to France, but this weather is playing havoc with the crops, and all the farmers around us are worried that mother nature may pay us back early next year. Seasons greetings to one and all, FC
  22. Hi All, Still quite breezy here in the Southend area, a few spits and spots of rain, and my external thermometer is showing 14.7 degrees. At this rate we will be barbequing the turkey, I'm heading to Cognac in France tomorrow where temps are still reaching 20 degrees plus, not good for the grape vines at this time of year, they need hard frosts or next years crop will be affected. What ever you are doing, enjoy the Christmas and New Year break and lets hope for some more seasonal weather in January, otherwise heaven knows what the summer will produce. FC
  23. Hi All Some progress westward for the snow line... http://www.natice.noaa.gov/pub/ims/ims_v3/ims_gif/ARCHIVE/EuAsia/2015/ims2015350_asiaeurope.gif
  24. I was out cutting the grass today, and I got a bit sun burnt, this weather is very strange indeed. This coming week the south of France are expecting temps of around 20 degrees especially on Wednesday 16th. FC
