  1. Morning all, From the front page of the BBC website 'Dozens of flights have been cancelled amid warnings of blizzard conditions set to sweep across the UK on Thursday. London's Heathrow Airport said airlines had pre-emptively cancelled 46 departures and 31 arrivals, with disruption expected from 15:00 GMT.' They are going to look a bit silly if the snow does not appear, or its only a dusting. I am flying out of Gatwick tomorrow afternoon, but no word from them at the moment, obviously made of sterner stuff. Cheers FC
  2. Morning all, according to my weather station temps are still rising here in Southend, its now up to 7.1. I hear that BA are already cancelling flights at Heathrow because of the weather, that is a bit premature I think. I am flying out of Gatwick tomorrow afternoon but no word from them at the moment, they are obviously made of stronger stuff it Gatwick. Cheers FC
  3. wow it has turned chilly here in SW Fance over the last couple of days, we even had an amber warning for freezing fog and some snow, however neither the freezing fog or snow made an appearance where I am, but it is still pretty cold. The French Meteo keep toying with the idea of periods of snow showers over the coming week for the whole of France, but I don't thinkit will happen. I am sure in Eastern and Central France it will be cold enough for snow, but here in the west we will still be protected by the gulf stream for a few more weeks. Cheers FC
  4. Milder weather has returned to SW France, getting off the plane on Friday in Bordeaux I really felt the difference with the UK, the house is now too warm as we had the heating on after the mild weather broke around the 7th, but can't open the windows because of all the flies that suddenly appeared to bask in the sun... it has been a very warm Autumn this year. FC
  5. wow, it was amazingly mild this morning when I jumped into the car at 5:15 in Southend, no need for any cold weather clothing and when I got to the office in the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire borders it was feeling almost 'warm' car saying 12 degrees. I even had a salad for lunch :-) FC
  6. yes, I saw that on the news, it was a bit of a surprise, and caused 544KM of traffic jams too.... The mild weather broke suddenly on Sunday morning at around 10am, it was strange, a very noticeable and sudden temperature drop, I was working outside in just a shirt then suddenly I needed to get my body warmer. I have not really experienced such a sudden temperature drop before. Cheers FC
  7. wow, looking really good there at the moment.... FC
  8. Afternoon all, No frost in Southend this morning, even at 5am it only got down to 2 degrees, on the plus side no need to scrape the car, or even remove dew this morning, it was perfectly dry. It was a different story once I left SE Essex, a blanket of frost all the way to Nottingham and a minimum of -3 in rural Leicestershire. Cheers FC
  9. Afternoon all, It was my first car window scraping event this morning, it was 1 degree (according to my car) in Southend this morning, saw -2 in Leicestershire on my way to Nottingham. It clouded over quite quickly after the early morning sunshine.... Cheers FC
  10. Temperatures have started dropping again here in Southend, from a high of 20.2 we are down to 18.7 degrees.... still dry though Cheers FC
  11. Morning all, Nice and quiet here in Southend, I see we had some rain overnight, the temparature did not drop below 18 last night and its now back up to 20 again.. cheers FC
  12. nice and dry, and quiet here in Southend, the mercury is not gving up without a fight it is still 20 degrees FC
  13. not long after we hit 30.2 degrees, at 12:30 here in Southend the sky cleared enough for the sun to appear, but interestingly the temp dropped to 28.4, it has now crept back to 29.5 and seems to be stuck there. What a great day.. strange to think autumn is knocking on the door FC
  14. and the mercury has just reached 30.1 degrees here in Southend.... phew what a scorcher... FC
  15. Hi All, Watching the mercury rising quite rapidly this morning under quite a lot of high cloud. It has reached 29.1 in the shelter of my garden, here in Southend, it will be interesting to see how high it finally goes. If it was a clear day all sorts of records could have tumbled, but the sun is still struggling to make it through the cloud... FC
  16. Great to see this up and running again, still one of my favourite threads Cheers FC
  17. Afternoon all, Lots of moderately heavy, short sharp showers barreling over Southend this afternoon, I was not expecting that... FC
  18. first rumbles of thunder over Southend, just a gentle rain falling but its very dark now... FC
  19. First drops of rain from this round of showers has started falling in Southend... FC
  20. Afternoon All, Interesting watching my weather statrion today, Humidity has plummeted to 72% from 95% this morning, the temperature is bouncing around all over the place, it went up to 26.2 degrees just before 12:00, then suddenly down to 22.4 degrees, now it climbing again and is passing through 24.7 degrees, all under heavy cloud cover... I am finding it very facinating, perhaps I should get out more... Cheers FC
  21. just noticed my weather station is recording 95% humidity, I don't think I have seen it that high before here in Southend... FC
  22. Morning all, Fell asleep whilst waiting for the storms to arrive and slept through the lot, so I am guessing not too much happened over Southend, though train services closer to London appear to be badly affected this morning. Cheers FC
  23. The first distant rumble of thunder heard over Southend, its too warm and muggy to go to bed..... Cheers FC
  24. There was an amazingly heavy downpour in Southend just after 6pm this evening, got soaked loading my my van, it lasted around 15 minutes.... no thunder or lightening though Cheers FC
